Jupiter in Capricorn

This thread again arises from the discussion on decanates in the tarot minors.

Jupiter is very much a planet of expansion, and traditionally rules both Sagittarius and Pisces. Capricorn, by contrasts, seeks for established patterns and forms, reflecting the existing social order (ruled by Saturn).

Jupiter in Capricorn may therefore indicate that one is able to expand quite exciting energies in socially respected and established areas. The making, for example, of a good politician.

Of course, this is but one narrow aspect of this combination...

Given the original source of the association, Jupiter can have some dignity in Capricorn - it does have rulership by Terms for part of the sign and it has rulership over the first decanate. However it is in Fall in Capricorn so it's really not so well at all.

That being said Jupiter and Saturn (ruler of Capricorn) are not complete oppositites. I have used elsewhere the blend of the two as an exercise in controlled/planned growth and expansion.

Saturn also is a diurnal planet (it is strong in day charts, rather than night charts) and rules the Air Triplicity by Day. The first century Astrologer, Dorotheus of Sidon also treated Saturn as one of the rulers of the Fire Triplicity - a rulership that does not appear in Ptolemy but seems to have been widely used at the time.

Jupiter may therefore find Saturn's domain awkward but not at all inimical - Jupiter here may be very constructive if he gets his head down and works. There's no time for drinking, laughing, eating and other Jovian pursuits though. With Saturn as taskmaster and Jupiter's enegies, Jupiter in his terms or decanate may well provide some real motive power.

Gosh, Minderwiz, all that stuff went right over my head. And I thought I knew a thing or two about astrology!
I have Jupiter in Capricorn, conjunct with my sun and moon (a stellium). I have gained some degree of recognition and respect in certain circles, but they are what might be considered "fringe" type circles, outside the mainstream, non-institutional. In fact, I have horrible, horrible luck with institutions - I just don't fit in. (I have Aquarius rising).
I don't know if that is even what we're talking about here!

that discussion centred on the use by the Golden Dawn of Astrological symbolism, specifically that of the decanate or third of a sign (a ten degree arc). Jupiter in Capricorn corresponds in that system to the 2 of Pentacles (Disks).

Here jmd is trying to see what a 'tarot' free interpretation would be.

Your chart sounds quite interesting - if you post your natal details it would help me comment on your own Jupiter in Capricorn.

Firstly you were born 6 minutes after the New Moon on that day and Two and a half minutes after an annular eclipse of the Sun - your Sun / Moon conjunction is only 3 minutes of Arc apart. Jupiter is about 4 degrees of arc away - well within orb and is applied to the New Moon and Sun - this makes it a little stronger than if the conjunction had already been perfected. Your stellium is in the eleventh house of friends, associations, groups, hopes and aspirations - so I would normally see you as expressing yourself very strongly through friendships and groups - indeed your personal growth will stem from your interaction with friends and associates. The Aquarian Ascendant might be seen as suggesting an interest in 'New Age', unsual, individual, modes of expression.

Just as a side poin to your other line of inquiry about Nodes and Part of Fortune. Because you were born at an eclipse the New Moon and Sun are also conjunct your North Node. People born at a New Moon have their Part of Fortune conjunct the Ascendant and that is where yours' is - just three minutes of arc past your Aquarius Ascendant.

I was wondering, since it occurs in my 11th house, would that indicate that my spiritual "calling" has to do with social causes/organizations? I thought of this also because part of this stellium is Jupiter, and I read that J in the 11th house is common for political/social leaders.

A heavy emphasis on Aquarius would be connected to Socialism. Firstly, in principal b/c Aquarius likes to focus on the individual within a part of a group (instead of lumping everyone into a mass, or singling out an individual). So this goes hand in hand w/raising consciousness and social movements. Secondly, Aquarius' modern ruler is Uranus, the revolutionary.

Jupiter covers social structures such as education, legal system, religions etc so that fits into your interpretation. I hesitate to say spiritual calling b/c I wouldn't pin that all on one planet, but certainly 11th house is the place where you can experience a lot of luck and generosity (to and from yourself). Since you are an Aqu ASC, Sag should also be cusping your 11th (unless you were born very far away from the equator). Is Jupiter is dignified (in his own sign)? That would strengthen his position. I would also look to the house Pisces is cusping, and other planets aspecting Jupiter to see what role he plays.

My 11th house is actually Capricorn, but just barely - 0:43'. So my sun, moon, and Jupiter are in Capricorn/11th house. So no, Jupiter's not dignified, in that sense. The only aspect to J is square Uranus (in Libra/8th house).
Pisces is entirely occluded (sp?) within my 1st house. It contains no planets.
The reason I was thinking about my spiritual calling with this was because it was my sun, moon, Jupiter *and* my true node. And, the fact that I was born right after an eclipse! How cool! I never knew that.
