online herbalism course?

Hi folks!

I know there are a few courses out there to teach you about medicial and magical herbalism. But I'm at a complete loss to know which are good and which are duds. SO have you done an online course? What was it? Was it any good?

Herbs are one of the things I'm wanting to learn about this year so I thought I'd ask you all for some ideas

Hi Sezo!

Don't you have a hedgewitch or wise person in Shropshire or nearby Wales who could teach you in situ? You'd learn a lot more wandering through a forest or moor with someone who knows about medicinal and magical uses of plants. I went on a week's retreat last summer in the Jura with a shamanic teacher and herbalist, and it was wonderful, learning about the plants (their medicinal, spiritual and magical properties) as we walked through the various landscapes of the Jurassic range. And the last time I visited the US, I went to see a friend who is an avid gardener and nature lover in Norfolk, VA - she and I went walking around Chesapeake Bay with a woman who was a natural herbalist - been brought up in the wilds of West Virginia and taught by a wisewoman there - she had become a wisewoman herself. Though she had hardly any schooling, she really knew what she was talking about! IN fact, she was employed by the nature reserve, if I remember right.

You find people like that anywhere - you live in such a beautiful part of the world, there must be some there who could teach you.

(but sorry, I can't help you about the online courses - although I initially met both my Virginia friend and my shamanic teacher online.)

There is a local gal who teaches here... do a search for PraireWise Herbal School I think. It's in Kansas City, Mo.
A lot of people here think she's really good. I know she's starting an online class begining of Feb.
Also anything by Clayton College (?) in Utah maybe... is good.

Check it out - all kinds of herbal courses offered long distance or in person, plus a Wise Woman (green witch) Forum: http://www.susunweed.com/ I'm a member of the forum and have learned a lot about herbs from the apprentices who are active on the forum, but I haven't taken any of the formal courses offered.

Fudugazi - you'd think that I'd be able to find someone like that! But maybe I'm not meant to learn that way as the ideallic and romantic wise woman hasn't appeared yet. Oh well, maybe one day? lol. I am enjoying walking in my local flora and fauna and learning bits as I go along - but with herbs I think I just need some kind of structure as there is just SO much to learn.

Thanks souljourney and crystalwoman - i'll have a look and see what I can find, though maybe not a class in the USA (now that would be a long distance course lol!)
