Psycards Study Group - 16. Death

Master_Margarita

Every deck has to have this card, I think. Here's the card in this deck.

DEATH be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell'st thou then;
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.

What do you think?

I think the book talks about Death being a door to something and it is... it's a door to a hole in the ground.

There is a card in the Celtic Oracle with a similar message (The Third Circle I think) only, in that card, there is the suggestion of mysteries and journeys beyond. This card feels very confining and restrictive, and I sort of think of it as "The Mind Trap".

I wouldn't fancy walking through that door with skulls either side of it.

Fear of the unknown? not wanting to let go and move on?

I actually think that once that door there is a light at the other end. I think in front of the door is dark and depressing but once you walk through it, its the opposite of that darkness, therefore light. I dont see it as a grim card. But i do see why its so scary to walk towards it and then through it so it makes sense because not a lot of people like change. there is risk in it just like walking into that door.
