Combining Froud's Faeries' Oracle and Heart of Faerie

FLizarraga

It has been pointed out in these forums and elsewhere (http://rowantarot.blogspot.com/2013/05/heart-of-faerie-and-faeries-oracle.html) that these two oracles work very well together, but that the HoF cards are ever so slightly bigger than FO's, so it's hard to cut and not get a HoF card.

I found a solution of sorts: Sandpaper! I mixed both decks, sandpapered the edges over and over and over, and then separated HoF and sandpapered it some more. I might have to repeat the second step (sandpapering HoF only), but right now the odds of getting FO's cards when I cut are MUCH improved. :D

I noticed that the corners don't match up on my decks, I was planning on rounding the corners on my HoF deck to get it to match the FO deck. Did you notice this as well?

Sorry about the late response, I just saw this. Yes, I did. I wondered why they still seemed uneven, after I sanded down the HoF.

My workaround has been to put them together in a nice bag I got from Winterchild. I take them out of the bag to shuffle them, put them back, and then I stick my fingers in it in search of a card that feels right.

Sorry for the late response back

That sounds like a really cool way to use the decks together. I rounded the corners of my HoF and they match up perfectly with my FO deck.

I still haven't edged them in a color, but I think the Faeries are ok with not being edged, just rounded and shuffled together.

Both decks makes for an enormous pile of cards, yes?

Thanks to you, so did I... :)

Enormous is the word. Not a big problem for me, though --I have humongous Nosferatu hands. Mini decks, that's a different story --like handling postage stamps! :bugeyed:

My HoF is on its way, so this is perfect timing!

On rounding the HoF corners--did you use a corner rounder punch, or just sand them down? If you used a corner rounder, which one did you use? I know my old scrapbooking one would produce a wider rounding than what's on most card decks...including the Faeries.

And any recommendation on what grit of sandpaper to use?

Hmm...this may be more work than I want to go through! :D

FO's corners are 5mm, HoF's are 2.5mm. Using a regular 5mm corner rounder will do the trick. I sanded the borders before someone pointed out the difference in the corners, and it did not make much difference, so I would skip that step.

As for corner rounders, I own these two:

Neither of them is expensive or hard to use.

As for sanding, fine grit is good for after trimming a deck, but not indispensable. I use very fine (220 grit) myself, but lately I have been forgoing it.

Oooooh, that Sun-Star with three sizes is awesome. Thanks for pointing it out!!! When the HoF arrives then, I'll probably round it first and only sand if needed.

I can barely handle the FO alone for shuffling, so that will be a challenge, but I'm looking forward to having both decks working together soon.

All right, this is positively odd. Everyone says HoF is the deck that is a smidgen bigger, and is the deck that needs adjusting. That if you mix the two, you'll almost always cut to an HoF card.

But not with my decks, apparently. The Heart of Faerie that arrived today is a hair smaller. And the corners are already cut wider at 5mm. (The center/Medium curve on the Sun-Star cutter matches them perfectly.) The Faeries' Oracle that came last week has the smaller corners (2.5-3mm)--it would be the one in need of trimming down to make the decks the same size. Mixed together, there was an FO card at every cut. LOL

Both came in original packaging, from totally different sources on opposite ends of the country. Color me puzzled here! I don't know why they would be any different than everyone else's. Fae tricks, perhaps? :D

I know. It's everywhere.

That is so bizarre.

I distinctly remember, though, that when I was rounding the corners on my HoF, some cards were definitely irregular, with corners of different sizes. At the time I attributed it to the fact that I had sanded them before, but now I wonder. Perhaps those decks have been cut in different ways in their successive printings.

jolie-amethyst, you have been chosen. What for, only time will tell, but that is special. The faeries have obviously spoken. :)
