Which deck for a LARP?

Skimo

Hello,

A LARP is a live action role playing game.

I am going to do one this summer and I want to bring a tarot deck with me. I thought it could be interesting and fun, since my character is a sage with divination skills, worshipping the god of fire.

We play in the medieval fantastic world of Elric, a novel by Mickael Moorcock, where law and chaos are in perpetual war.

But what deck should I bring with me?

I am actually doing the intensive deck study with my halloween tarot, but even if I lovethis deck, I can't bring it since I don't want it to be worn and it won't fit with the world and the character.

I have bought the Druidcraft for this purpose, but I don't feel connected to it and it's maybe too... druidic...

Now the Archeon is coming, it could be a good option, but I am not sure yet.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Browsing from the LS catalogue:
- the Sorcerers Tarot
- Crystal Tarot
- Da Vinci Tarot
- Avalon Tarot
- Tarot of the Master

My pick would go to the sorcerers. It's magical and it can get quite dark, in line with Elric's feel.
The Crystal is a deck "out of time". It would better suit the idea of opening up something precious.
- The Da Vinci is interesting too, especially if You follow order and not chaos. Do not understimate it.
- The Avalon is fantasy. An easy choice, but it would be my last pick.
- The Master of any other older, historical deck would also be nice.

What about one of the dragon decks - esp the Nigel Suckling one ?

Elric was always my favourite Michael Moorcock hero.

I call the Sacred Rose my Michael Moorcock deck. They all have white eyes.

Tarot of the Elves - the Elves remind me of his books, but if you get it get the novel with it not just the deck on its own

Secret Tarot, although this reminds me of Zork the Underground Empire http://www.infocom-if.org/downloads/downloads.html rather than Moorcock but this certainly could be an Elric world

Bosch Tarot, tortured souls anyone?

ps oh, and the Liber T feels very other-worldly to me http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/liber-stars-eternal/

Riccardo, it's funny that you didn't mention the Universal Fantasy, it was one of the LS deck I was thinking about (I even ordered it, but my order has been cancelled).

The Crystal could be an option, or the Golden tarot of the renaissance.

This Dragon tarot is nice gregory, and it would be great for a LARP in the world of dungeon and dragons, but I haven't seen that much dragon in Elric world (I shoud read the books to be sure).

Damn - the Universal Fantasy was the one I was trying to remember. It would be excellent !

I had a look at the crystal tarot, and the pips are not scenic, I am not ready for that now... and I would have the same problems with most historical deck I guess.

The Sacred Rose is strange, but I will think about it.

I already have the LiberT but if I choose this deck I will have to study it before.

In fact, I guess that no matter what deck I choose, I will have to study it before...

The wonderful Mr Somerville has the Universal Fantasy in stock - try here.

Catalogue ref is 14396

He is even in France !

It would be the perfect deck, IMHO.

oh how awesome! I love LARPing! :D

Man...everyone here already beat me to it...I would have suggested something very dramatic, with the feel of the Elric books...

and the Universal Fantasy, Sacred Rose and Secret were all the first ones that sprang to mind!
