Your Altar

Just like with the other altar ... a preponderance of males makes any woman a potential 'Priestess' ... he'll have to prove himself (although his activity seems to be on the increase).

I had one of those, once. He eschewed eating algae off the glass for a preferred diet of dead fish - and did battle with a glass tetra once to make sure there was dead fish to feast on. Never sucked algae off the tank again, sadly. Vegetarian to hunter-carnivore in one fell swoop.

We called him Fluffy.

We also had a guineapig called Fang.

I like the wiskers ... I think I will call him Cthulu.

Hello Milfoil,

When it comes to Alters a lot depends on what you are doing . I use various animals and different aspects of something to represent an element. But I also will use tarot for different reasons and colored stones .
As for deity sometimes I place quan yin and sometimes I just go with spirit animals. but always a candle and some incense as it helps me to meditate.

You could put meditation tools like a bowl for your altar, things to help you clear your mind, like some crystals. You could put objects to help ground you as well during your meditation sessions, since grounding is good for meditation, again some crystals do that like hematite, but a simple stone you found in nature can do it too. And a candle and incense would be nice too. As for the gratefulness aspect, maybe putting an harvest image on the altar that shows the blessings you've received and then you say "thanks" to whoever is up there for you. If you search for Mabon on Google or Pinterest, the Pagan holiday (harvest), there are plenty of harvest images that come up with altars that you might like that you could print. Like:

I've just set up a small area in my bookcase as recommended by the "Earth Magic Oracle" with items representing the four elements plus a few objects considered sacred. I didn't want to go out and just buy stuff so went for a stone, feather, shell and pine cone on two spare purple card bags plus a circular amethyst geode slice with purple crystals pointing inwards to the hole at the centre, upright at the back of the display. This seems to represent spirit to me in a non-religious sort of way.

Well I had to look for a feather, but the rest of it was already lying around

I've finished getting all the items for my prosperity altar. Since I have tons of images I'll link the images from my blog.

I bought a green jewellery box where I could keep the crystals on top well protected, and everything else at the bottom. I always keep the box open. A friend gave me a green shawl so I put the altar box on top.

I have lots of coins in my box. I have 3 old copper coins with Lincoln and wheats symbol for prosperity. I also bought an old silver coin. I have three chinese Feng Shui coins as well. I added too some coins of the canadian 10 cent coin, because it shows a ship, that could represent good fortune being brought to me.

Among the asian items that I bought, beside the Feng Shui coins, is a japanese maneki-neko, I bought two, I keep one in my wallet and the other I keep it in the altar box. I bought a chinese golden gold bar and a chinese golden gold fish.

I put herbs, rice and spices that attract prosperity in a small pot, mixed them, then I put some in a small green bag which I keep in the box. I already had a few myself: allspices. clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and rice. I bought a few at a store: juniper berries, patchouli, Tonka bean and vetiver roots.

I bought a rabbit’s foot when I was a kid and I still have it, and I decided to add it to my altar to bring luck to me.

I was given a small Fortuna charm by Chronata, with a four-leaf clover, and I keep it on top because it’s very fragile.

I bought crystals that attract prosperity and I keep them on top well protected. The crystals I bought are: aventurine, citrine, black tourmaline, chrysoprase, pyrite, lepidolite, blue sodalite and turquoise.

I picked the Archeon Tarot because it has nice coins in the Pentacles suit and on the Wheel of Fortune cards.

I choose the Goddess Fortuna because I’ve always liked the artistic representations of her with her cornucopia, filled with vegetables and fruits, and other times with coins. She does represent for me prosperity and abundance. I decided to add the God Ganesh to remove blocks and obstacles. After all Ganesh is the Remover of Obstacles and the facilitator of good fortune, he removes any obstacle to wealth, good fortune, success, or anything else when asked. And Ganesh has some prosperity aspect as well.
