Help. books in a bad way!

Help me!

I keep buying books and when I get the the pages are falling out!
I know that this is one of the problems with paperbacks, but it is really begining to nark me.

Has anyone got any idea on how to stick the pages back in?

I keep trying but either they just fall out again, or all the pages stick out funny when the book is closed.

Is there a way of doing it, or are these book just irretreivably dead?

P.S. This is about Tarot, cos a lot of the books are Tarot books.
Help them live a little longer!

Instructions for repair or "tipping in" of pages (I'm no expert on this, just learned the term the other day). But this will depend on the type of book. There are some softcover books today in which bad glue was used. I have a favorite, really beautiful one that the cover popped off of. The glue just wasn't right for a book, not flexible.

Someone at a used book store might also have advice, or someone who works in a library.

The last link appears to have supply information for "perfect binding" which I believe is the method used for most softcover or "trade paperback" books today (except the smaller format mass market paperbacks).

I know of one solution that makes Tarot books (or any other reference books) easier to use...
and that is to take all the pages out, take them to a printer or copy shop...and have them rebound with a spiral binding.

Most of the time it's pretty reasonable. (Here in the States, it costs under $5 usually)
And it allows you to lay the book flat on any page...which can be a great thing when you are referenceing constantly!

Ah! You know I completely forgot about that. I once saved a favorite knitting book that way. The particular shop I went to required that I trim the pages first (small office supply that also did copying--a printer would likely trim them for you). They used comb binding and added a clear plastic cover.

I know there is a type of tape that you can buy but I'm not sure what it is called. My library is a great believer in trying to save books that have pages coming out of them so I've seen this tape alot.

Its very light-weight but will last. Sticky tape or masking tape will age and ruin the pages in time but this tape doesn't.

Might be worth a call to your local library and see if they know the name of this tape they use for repairing loose pages.

Sellotape does make a mess after a few years!
