Music? know any music for...?

Robert27

as far as some instrumental music goes, Harold Budd is an amazing pianist who adds a lot of layering ambiance to his instrument and Phillip Glass has been a very impressive composer of strings and piano. I've been enjoying his modern score to the old Dracula movie lately. Both of these artists would be great for classic deck readings.
Someone mentioned spacey music for the Quantum tarot, I would suggest Brian Eno's Appollo. It was actually commissioned to be background music for moon landing footage and its one of the best ambient albums ever made.

There is an old British band called The Enid whose first album was inspired by tarot cards, and all the tracks are named for tarot cards.

I believe you can download the album for free off their site.

The Lovers track is very nice, but I haven't heard any of the others.

I don't know if you might be interested in this, since it isn't exactly music, but have you ever tried binaural beats for meditation? I downloaded an application for my iphone called mindwave (I don't know if you have an iphone or itouch, but if you do I highly suggest this app.). They have a track for 'deep meditation' that is amazing! I was actually able to contact and interact with one of my spirit guides, which is something I have never done before. Apparently, I must never really have been into a full meditative state until then lol. You can find some online that you can listen to for free, but I can't speak for those whether they work or not.

I'll tell you what i like to listen to if I'm meditating with music, and to read tarot with sometimes...chanting. I have some chanting cds and I just really can get into it. that, and for some reason also listening to the Celtic Women. I think just because they have such beautiful soft voices-I just find myself getting lost in the music and relaxing easily. :D

Try Gheorghe Zamfir's 'Einsamer Hirte' a.k.a. 'The Lonely Shepherd'.

Wisp Wings

Phil Coulter, I love several of his CD's. Favorites of mine are "Sea Of Tranquility", "A Touch of Tranquility", and "Highland Cathedral". I prefer soft instrumentals other than these, but I do love Enya. With Phil Coulter's "Highland Cathedral", the song "Cathering-Bealtaine", to me needs to first time ever listened to with eyes closed, ear phones on and have done a pre-test on another song for the volume level. It needs to be loud, but not to be causing bleeding ears. ;D This song reaches to some primal memory and is soul stirring. The beats of the drums pound within your chest. LOVE IT. Even if you don't want to buy the CD, pay the 89 cents or whatever to buy the single for a MP3. It's not a song for the easy tranquil meditation, but like I said to listen to it as I stated, it will be in a primitive state of mind.

I'm a fan of Ravi Shankar "Chants of India,"--"Sarve Shaam" is short but wonderful and Arpan is really, in my mind, best suited to meditation--coming in around 45 minutes (besides, "Arpan" means "gift," a nice sentiment when reading :) I think I like the chord-work, the progressions, and the "old as Earth herself" sound, lol. Like listening to the day waking. For me, when I'm listening to this music I can smell the ghee and nan and flowers and incense :)

And some of the more transcendental stuff of the Beatles and George Harrison, like "Tomorrow Never Knows" or "Within You, Without You," "Because," "Across the Universe," "Something," (then George's) "The Inner Light," "Beware of Darkness," "Give Me Love," etc. and a pinch of some of Lennon's softer stuff, like "Love." Even something as non-metaphysical as "Hey Jude" can be tranquilizing if you're in the right heart/mind place for it. It's music I've listened to my whole life, so it puts me at ease. (The easiest way to try some of the George Harrison numbers with a mix of Ravi and Anouska Shankar is by listening to clips from or buying The Concert For George CDs or MP3s.) Also, the song, "I'll See You In My Dreams," also on the concert album.

There was also a band out...15 years ago?, called The Cocteau Twins--the album is called "Treasure" (I think they've already been mentioned, so, bravo! It's pretty (not at all Enya, in case you were worried, :) ) but it sounds like a hodgepodge of Latin and some sort of made-up language, very swirly music, ethereal (although, after this long, the latter tends to annoy whereas the former's *far* more soothing! :) )

Let me see if I can't pull up some sound clips for you...

I'm having a time of it trying to pull up the Indian music, particularly "Arpan" or "Sarve Shaam," two of my very favorites (the latter is my favorite chant/life philosophy to live by.)

I'm New but...

I don't really want to hear someone singing, unless very low in the background, I find distracting. There's Vibrational Healing Music I have (don't know how vibrational or healing, but I find it soothing played very low). Terra Firma. Hey, strangely enough, depending on the mood, Acoustic France or Paris (both by Putumayo Presents). If you want to get really trippy, Dr. John's Walk on Gilded Splinters or Gris Gris Woman :)))
