From the above website - Stephanie Pui-Mun Law

"Taking a stand, defending what you believe in, strife and stiff competition, courage in facing difficulties.

The Vixen faces off against a Badger, while her kits watch from beneath the protective curl of her tail. They circle and circle, sizing each other. The bamboo of the wands signify strength and fortitude -- slender supple tenacity that sways in the winds and does not break."

Confrontation seems to be the major theme of this card. And with a badger! Badgers are not large animals but they are very aggressive, strong and with sharp claws and teeth. It usually lives in burrows and is an unsociable animal, so why has it shown up in this card?

I looked badger up in Totems...

Brad Steiger's book TOTEMS - As a totem guardian, the badger will be a strong protector and ally that will keep dark energies at bay. Because of its rather aggressive nature, however, you must be certain that you remain balanced in temperament and judgment so that violent responses to difficult situations are never encouraged.

And then badger in Animal Speak....

Ted Andrews book ANIMAL SPEAK - "Because it is such a powerful digger, the badger has knowledge of things beneath the earth. This includes minerals, roots, and other plants and herbs. This makes the badger also a dynamic healer. Sometimes the badger healer is overly aggressive, but the technique is usually effective. Badger can teach the long forgotten knowledge of roots and their mystical and healing powers.

The badger is bold and ferocious, and it never surrenders. If a badger has come into your life, you should do some examination. Are you or those around you not digging deep enough? It may indicate a need to get beneath the surface. It may reflect a time of greater connection to the earth and its animal spirits. It may be telling you to draw upon the stories that intrigued you and held you fast during childhood. They may be symbolic of things going on or about to go on in your current life. Whenever badger shows up, there will be opportunities to develop self-expression and reliance. It speaks of a time to begin to tell a new story about yourself and your life.

From previous cards we know that Fox is a very clever animal, known as a shapeshifter, feminine in nature, a trickster and capable of being invisible. But in this card the fox is deeply defending her 'babies' and clearly communicates to the badger "you cannnot have what is rightfully mine - BACK OFF"!

The fur and tail of the fox is an important clue in this card....

Ted Andrews - ANIMAL SPEAK - "Hair and fur are ancient symbols for energy and fertility, and layers of fur reflect levels of energy and levels of fertility. With the fox it is the undercoat which is the primal energy source from which an individual draws his/her abilities. The outer layer protects and defines how that energy is being used by the individual. As the outer hair changes so does the expression of the inner creative force. Hair should become very important to an individual with a fox totem. If a change is needed on certain levels, learning to change the hair to reflect the change desired helps to activate fox energy so that shapeshifting can begin.

The brush or tail has always been considered the most sacred part of the fox, although this is not necessarily true. It does hold great significance for one with a fox totem. When it runs, the fox tail is always in a horizontal position out from the body. This acts as a rudder. this horizontal position is the feminine form. Thus the fox tail is a symbol of directly guiding the feminine creative forces. It is especially beneficial to the fox when making abrupt and sharp turns. If the focus stays on the creative energies, any sharp turn in the individual's life will be accomplished with ease.

I do believe this is the beginning of developing the 7th chakra. When this chakra develops we start to gain insight and understanding of old problems...especially when balanced with the heart chakra . Aspects of the self that have been held back or ignored can come to fore in dramatic ways....and we may project that energy on others who will throw it right back in our face. At first we may act out this energy in a frenzy and in a very changeable fiery way. But if we can see it for what it is and allow ourselves to be as flexible as bamboo, it might just help to heal our past and alter our course of life dramatically.

Seemingly, the Badger depicted in this card is an american Badger (Taxidea taxus) that is known to be agressive and solitary as you said.

In Europe, we've got a different species of Badger (Meles meles) which is sociable, much less agressive and that often shares is hole with some other animals like...Foxes.

I won't talk about the other species of Badgers that are also specific but i find it was important to point out this difference in order to understand the scene of the card even if this detail seems a bit out of space for most of people :)

About something completly different, the way the wands are set makes me think of a boxing ring and gives the idea that the fight is inevitable.
