A certain kind of professional reader?

jillkite

As a professional reader are you open to all questions or do you advertise that you have certain specialities?

This question is coming up for me as yesterday i did a reading for someone who really wanted to know what they should do to make money. for me this kind of a reading is very difficult, as i feel people should aim to express their soul and gifts in society and by doing this they will gain money. however going after money just for the sake of money was what this querent wanted to know about, and the cards would not play ball.... he did not get a clear answer. finally i told him that the Universe doesn't support people to go after money, but supports people to deeply express themselves and he should be aiming to do this.

anyways... i dread those kind of questions, about investments, business decisions or how to make money. the irony that my dad is a financial advisor is not lost on me....

my thinking now is should i be clearer when i advertise readings about what kind of questions i specialise in? e.g. relationships, personal development, best direction for self-development and evolution at a deep level, information regarding the spiritual path.

does anyone else have any thoughts, experiences about this and about advantages and disadvantages of clarifying in your advertising what 'sort' of questions you specialise in?

thanks!

Well, it's your right to take any questions you like, and to field others. However, remember that finance is a huge part of people's lives. It speaks directly to their sense of well-being, personal security, and even ability to improve their spiritual lives. Simply put, someone who's hungry will generally not be interested in improving their souls. Plus, not being hungry, but happy and content is part of spirituality. One's talents may or may not lead them to make money, it doesn't always work that way. Even making money for the sake of it is alright, if that is where your passion lies. Some people find their expression through that. A person might be in debt, something can debilitate a person, so they might need to concentrate on making money in order to go beyond it. There are many, many reasons why a person might want to concentrate on strictly financial issues.

There's no simple answer. You might try to find an angle that will please you both, like finding an outlet that fulfills both spiritually and financially. Ultimately pleasures "of the flesh" aren't dirty, they're part of the human experience.

There is, after all, a reason why there is a suit of Pentacles. :)

I have met professionals that refuse to do reading on health and/or on deities. It is perfectly fine to let your clients know what readings you can and will not do.

A big part of personal branding is focusing the info about you on the types of readings you want to provide. Use descriptors about finding the soul's purpose and developing gifts. Maybe read a spiritually-minded self-help author's book on money. I know these are treacherous waters for some but you may find the language you need to be able to tackle these questions in a way that is authentic to you.

Are you reading the cards or giving your opinion?

If you feel you can't be objective about certain topics because of your personal opinion (which is the impression I get from your description), then you and your clients will probably be much happier and more satisfied with readings if you indicate you only read on certain topics. You are in charge of your business so it's appropriate for you to set your own boundaries.

btw - There are a lot of people who dislike their jobs, but like the fact the job brings in money to help them do other things they do enjoy. The fact they have these jobs means the Universe does indeed support people in going after money just for money's sake.

thanks for all the feedback!

i do totally understand the need for material/financial stability in order to support creativity and self-development. it is a base line, to have some degree of comfort at the material level (Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs). I don't have a distaste for money, or find it in any way 'disgusting', i respect it as a form of energy.

thanks for the suggestion about reading some spiritually oriented books on this subject, it's not something i've ever directly read up on, i will keep my eyes open. i did once read 'What Colour is Your Parachute?' about choosing a professional path that matches your skills and what you enjoy.

if someone is doing a job that they dislike, but the money is helping them to do things that they want to do in their life, i would say that there is a lot of room for progession towards a more fulfilling career for them. if they had the courage to move forwards those steps they might be well-supported by the Universe.

if they are not happy in their job then they are not really being supported by the Universe in my view. the Universe supports us to do things that make us happy, so i was explaining to the querent that he should focus his energies on expressing himself professionally in a way that fulfills him deeply, rather than just thinking about how he can make the most cash.

i'm open to read for anyone about anything, but i usually feel blocked with such direct financial questions, that's just the way it is (at the moment). so there's room for my own progression as always!! ;)

Read on whatever the cards put in front of you.

How can you tell your deck what to show you or not to show you?

Hi jillkite :)

Have you prepared yourself a code of ethics to share with your potential clients? This has been very helpful for me. This may or may not be relevant for you - I'm not sure if financial readings are unethical to you, or just not in line with your strengths. Either way, you could always say up front in your ethics code that you don't read on financial matters. If it brings up blocks for you - just don't do those readings! I've found that reading on topics that don't sit right with me just brings down my energy & the seeker doesn't get much out of it, either.

I definitely think different readers are better suited to different types of readings. For example, I flourish when I'm reading on personal growth, creativity, self-empowerment, goals, etc. Do you read primarily online or in-person? If you're online, I would say make sure you are catering your online content towards the type of person you'd like to read for. IE: if you have a blog, make posts about the topics you enjoy reading on.

Yes. I vote for this. Very well said.

money and sex are what make the world go around. To close off from 50% of your clientele seems contrary to being a professional turning a dollar yourself.
