A Beginners Guide to using a Crystal Ball

Scrying or Crystal Ball Gazing

The First thing to consider is atmosphere. Its considered best to practice crystal ball gazing in a very dimly lit room and possibility with incense burning in the background. The mix of light and shadow with the aroma of incense helps to provide the stage of the imagination to paint pictures that will emanate between the crystal ball and user.

Lighting

It is typical to use a candle that is set behind the user. This helps to shade the light from the crystal ball, providing only the minimal of additional lighting to the crystal ball. Some users will prefer to use a coloured candle. Coloured candles of course have their own frequency (dictated by the colour of the candle). I prefer purple

Incense

You can use any of course just as you can with the candle, however there is something to be said for tradition. Traditionally people use Frankincense, Sandalwood, or Sage.

Preparation

Preparing for any Psychic or spiritual practice requires one to adopt a frame of mind. Understand this; the conversation of the spirit is very quiet and subtle and can not be heard through the noise and din of the conscious mind, (our thinking mind).

To receive knowledge, information through increased awareness requires one to use their subconscious mind; the silent partner to our conscious mind. Therefore we need to allow our selves, a period of quiet, reflective, solitude.

Give your self time to allow the day to drift away before attempting to use the crystal ball. Relax, pray for guidance, meditate, or even take a relaxing bath. Be calm, be at peace, and cultivate a positive gentle disposition. Put all your troubles and concerns away and drift to a peaceful place.

Expectation

What should we expect, what shall we see, what will happen? To be honest, you should also try to leave this aside, expectation is not helpful. It means that you are looking for something and possibly looking for something in particular.

Expectation is the commodity that the person having a reading should carry, not the reader. The reader must be clear. Clear of any expectations….. “You will see, what you see and no more.” Your spirit knows the answers, you probably don’t even know the questions.

Practice

The practice of crystal ball gazing is very, very simple but the perfection of the practice is very hard. It requires discipline in the first instance. Discipline over the noise of the conscious mind, and patience of the self, and the loss of all expectation. When you feel ready to begin then follow this simple exercise.

After lighting the room and incense, having some personal preparation time sit comfortably with the crystal ball held in both hands. The candle lit behind you will allow you to see into the crystal slightly. Stare into the crystal ball for a few minutes and allow your eyes to adjust.

Notice how the crystal ball affects your vision and allow a feeling of connection between you and the crystal ball to grow. When you feel that there is a connection, a stirring within you, then place the crystal ball its stand.

You Are Ready to Begin

The crystal ball should be sitting on a stand in front of you now. Your gaze into the crystal ball should at a comfortable height. Stare into the crystal ball, and do not blink, do not look away, keep your gaze. Your gaze may take a very long time, so be patient. Allow you mind to become as the crystal, clear.

As you gaze a mist should form. The mist forms when the connection between you, the crystal ball and your subconscious mind is made. Once the mist is present, HOLD STILL…the door is opening, keep your gaze and keep calm and if need be make a gentle inner smile. The mist will clear, as you allow your self to drift into the crystal ball, and pictures will form.

You may see pictures that that you did not expect, images can be powerful and resemble inner natures, or the nature of an issue. A single picture could reveal a complete situation and carry a powerful feeling. It is important not to try to make sense of the pictures during the session, this will only lead to the breaking of concentration and forming of misconceptions about the images, just let the images flow, one to another. If a picture paints a thousand words then these images will need some careful consideration after the session has ended.

Eventually the images will fade, dissipate and dissolve. You may feel very tired and in need of a glass of water. Once the pictures start to fade, allow them to.

Record

Now that the images have faded, take a drink of cold water to refresh you and to help brake the connection. Now is a good time to record what you have seen. Take a piece of paper and get writing. Write all that seems relevant.

Note

Crystal ball gazing requires a lot of practice indeed, it may take several attempts. Be patient with your self. The process involved is really very simple, you allow your mind to be as quiet, and as clear as the crystal ball it’s self. In doing so, we allow our selves to access our subconscious mind and see more of our selves, and our world. The crystal ball acts as screen for the images.

The subconscious mind is highly receptive, it accepts all that it feels, sees, and hears without any of the restraints that our conscious mind has. It’s amazing that we don’t even know, what we know. The subconscious absorbs everything we come into contact with and files it all away.

It’s because of this level of receptivity that same side of us; our subconscious connects to our higher selves, and in turn to the super-conscious, or collective conscious.

A very nice primer. Thank you for writing that out and posting it.

I confess that these are not all my own words ;) This is based very much on the gypsy way of using a clear crystal ball for scrying :D

The crystal ball stands are important as they should not be too ornate or reflect in the ball itself. I use a thick bangle as a stand (low centre of gravity) and while scrying, I lay a black velvet cloth over the stand and surrounding tabletop })

Though I prefer a subtle form of background lighting. Some people use candles to both sides of the ball and read the flicking of flames within the ball, that is an entirely different way of scrying but not without merit :)

Some people read shapes, flaws and malformations within the balls themselves, in a similar way in which people read shapes in tea-leaves and coffee-grounds. Really whatever way feels more comfortable for the reader is the best for them to use :)

Crystal Ball Gazing should never feel forced. Simply put, if the time does not feel right, then it is NOT the right time ;)

The balls must be treated with respect at all times. Their permission sought before any scrying takes place. And they must be thanked after each session. Similar to the way pendulums should be treated

For the most part crystal balls should be wrapped in silk and kept in the dark. They do not like direct sunlight. In the time of the waxing moon they should be placed on a windowsill where they can recharge in the moonlight. Every now and again they should be left overnight in a reshing bath of sea-salt :)

My large ball in named Biscuit because he lives in a biscuit barrel })

Barleywine

Thanks for the primer! I know which ball and stand I want but have yet to get them. And I'll have to get some black velvet and wrapping silk too. The whimsy of naming the ball is a nice touch. I probably shouldn't admit it here, but I sometimes name my tools the same way my brother names his cars: I have a tree-limb lopper that I (and now my poor wife) call "Cyndi," a large, wicked-looking butcher knife named "Norman" that Janet Leigh would recognize, and a wide-mouthed ice cream scoop named "Monica" as a relic of the Bill Clinton debacle (although it kinda looks like Kermit the Frog too.) Ahem . . .

This is usually what I do. I've never been able to get those "mists" to appear, so reading what I actually see in the sphere itself seems to work best for me.

Agreed! The more I "try", the less likely I am to see anything. I end up seeing more if I relax and allow the images to come, rather than forcing them.

I need to come up with interesting names for my spheres! My favorite is a gorgeous labradorite ball. I also have a smoky quartz with amazing rainbow inclusions. Actually, it is a crystal skull, but I use it for scrying.

Barleywine, that is too horrible! But wickedly funny!

But this is interesting, Aunty Anthea!

I'm just curious, has anybody here who performed crystal ball gazing seen actual images inside the ball? Were they very clear, or misty, or dark-tinged? Were they moving images or were they simply static? And did they accurately predict the future? If anybody here did that would be all sorts of amazing. I hope the way I posed all these questions don't seem appalingly crude, I'm just very eager to know.

I have a few images from readings.
The first is very Disney.

See the witch holding a wand in the upper right, she's instructing the hand in the center to stir up magick.

Next is a woman's face

Again highlighted for the client.

If I turn my crystal some images look 3D.

I have seen a lot of odd things in the past. Sometimes I see curtains opening and actual clear moving pictures, but sadly no BBC 2 :(

When I was young I used to use a mirror to scry with :D I frightened my parents so much that they smashed my mirror up })

I especially love this first picture

I noticed there seems to be a lot of light in your pictures. The light seems to be reflecting of the flaws within the balls itself :D

Normally I use subdued lighting and my balls are clear (thinking) perhaps it is time for a change :D

I use no fewer than 3 candles, usually 5 - 7. It looks similar to this...

I scury as part of all tarot readings. Oddly enough, by means of the HD images as shown here. I take a pic of the reading, then zoom in on the crystal. Occasionally I do use my crystal alone though.

Whatever works, right?
