Tarot books - History of Tarot prior to 1801

- What books (in English or French) would you recommend to learn more about the history of tarot prior to 1801?

- Which volume of Kaplan's Encyclopedia would you recommend in that regard?

I'd prefer in-print books (rather than out-of-print books).
