Hi, Rusty, how serendipitous! I'll take ya up on this!

Here's my "deal" (that's Minnesotan, I just learned): I'm starting a new job next week, in an office and I haven't been in an office environment in a long time, and my experience hasn't been great so I'm terrified. So, ulitmately, the question is, will this be a good "fit?" (To use manager-speak...) Also, I was able to stay at my beloved radio station, I wouldn't be surprised if that showed itself in some way.

Thanks a heap!

I've heard of this Eteilla deck, but never really knew what it was...interesting!

I'll be listing the first and second listed keywords (and third keyword, where the first keyword is generic) and choose between them (or blend them) based on which one seems to fit in with the other card of the pair best. Spread position names from here. There will be two cards per spread position. Each card was picked individually at random from a fan of cards.

Quality to Let Go:

Jack of Spades: Upright keywords - Envoy / Company (guests)
King of Spades: Reverse keywords - Widower / Weakness

Quality to Embrace:

Queen of Diamonds: Upright keywords - A Woman / Air / Extraordinary Life
8 of Clubs: Upright keywords - Blonde Girl / Art / Thief

You should consider keeping the roles, ideas and world-views of your two jobs separate. Avoid the urge to try to be an ambassador or spokesperson of one division to the other. If you try to be such an ambassador/spokesperson, you may be viewed as an outsider in both shops.

In your new division, you should think creatively, while ensuring that you don't appropriate the ideas of others without credit.

Boy howdy the first part rings very true with me. I am far too in love with radio, and will have to bite my tongue often to avoid comparing the two, especially at the office. This is something that wasn't on my mind, as I try to remind myself of the little things about working in an office that I know are issues for me, so I won't make big mistakes right away. (Radio is almost 100% results-oriented. Meaning, for example, there are several of us whose standard attire includes sandals with socks. They don't care as long as the shows sound good!) See - I'm doing it already!

The second part is a little less clear to me, I wouldn't purposefully take credit for somebody else's ideas. But this could be a warning to just be careful? However, the creativity part is true, it's a small, upstart company who wants its ppl to come up with ideas to make it better.

Thanks, Rusty. This definitely gives me some stuff to think about. And as the warnings weren't too dire, I can take it as a good sign overall, I hope!

(PS: This is an interesting deck. Am I right to assume that it's the smaller version of the "Grand Eteilla"?)

shalott ... For this reading, I was trying the novel technque of reading a pair of card paying attention to two keywords per card. This isn't what Etteilla intended; we're probaby supposed to use just one keyword at a time, which one to use depending on certain rules. Most cards in this deck have two keywords for upright, two different keywords for reversed, and then there are also two additional keywords for each card. Those additional keywords are printed as the third and fourth keywords for upright; and those same two additional keywords are also printed as third and fourth keywords for reversed! I see now that the third set of keywords seem to link to another specified card in the deck. For example, our famous 8 of Clubs card is card numbered #29 [it's an eclectic numbering printed on each card without readily discernable pattern] of the deck. Its third keyword is R. 2 Voleur (Voleur being French for 'thief'). R may stand for 'renversé' - French for 'reversed'. Interestingly, I then go over to card #2. Card #2 is the King of Diamonds whose third keywords is R. 29 Voleur. Somehow these cards link together. There's no explanation in the LWB. See a thread I started about this deck at:

http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12911

To make a long story short, I think it's OK to use the first and second keywords of a Petit Etteilla card, but to save the third keyword for specific situations, which I have yet to decode. :)

That said, I am taking the liberty of revising the second part of my reading to delete the influence of the third keywords. The revision is below:

Quality to Embrace:

Queen of Diamonds: Upright keywords - A Woman / The Air

8 of Clubs: Upright keywords - Blonde Woman / Art

This new position will give you opportunity to use creative ideas.

Your revised reading for the third and fourth cards is in my immediately-preceding post.

The Grand Etteilla is a re-worked tarot deck [22 majors plus 56 minors, but the Fool is numbered 78]. The Grand Etteilla was developed by Etteilla after the Petit Etteilla. The Petit Etteilla is not a tarot deck, it is a 'piquet' deck (32 cards) plus a 33rd card as significator. As the Petit Etteilla is not a reworking of a tarot deck, we probably can't say that the Petit Etteilla is a 'smaller version' of the Etteilla. Piquet was a French card game. The Petit Etteilla is a piquet deck with keywords and other indications added and with a 33rd card. A piquet deck consists of the Ace, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen and King of four suits, for a total of 32 cards [8 x 4]. The Petit Etteilla cards are roughly the size of poker cards.

LOL - so if poker nights comes and one can't find the casino-type deck, grabbing the Petit Eteilla would suffice? ;)

This is an interesting deck. Perhaps I should put it on my wish list. It seems that learning this system would enable one to read with regular playing card. Something I'd like to learn one of these days.

I do think it's safe to say that this new job will use some creativity, which is one thing that's good for me. I don't know if I would have been very eager to accept the job if it were more "typical."

As to the keyword "Blonde woman," is this to be taken literally? I'm not (currently) blonde ;) but could this be a person to pay attention to? Or a figurative quality?

:D

That's why my initial plan was to 'ignore' such 'first' keywords and use the third instead of first keywords. Generic keywords such as 'A Woman' and 'Blonde Girl' hearken back to pre-21st century fortune-telling times. So I ignored those two general keywords in my reading for you. However, if the reading were in-person, it could be fun to use such keywords.

Best wishes for success in the two jobs!

Shalott

Ahhh fortune telling times...those were heady days! :) One of those ideas that can make Court cards so complex, eh? Intersting how the 3 keywords appear totally unrelated.

Thanks again, very happy to get a reading from someone of your caliber...for FREE ;)

(Edited to say: I just had a situation that makes me wonder if your original ideas for the second part weren't frighteningly right-on: I'm running a pre-recorded show, and for some reason hour 3 didn't come through, it was hour 1 again. Our computer system was acting up, but fortuntately one of our production ppl was still here, so I had to recruit her to help me fix it. When emailing my boss about this, I did mention that she helped me with it, with your first second-half still in mind...I've actually had this kind of thing happen before once or twice, I do think it's possible! :) )
