dreaming of snakes

Belladonna

A little background first... My husband, son and I recently sold our farm in Cape Breton (very rural, isolated, harsh weather, financially challenged, but very beautiful and powerful too) to move to Halifax- a lovely mid-sized city with colorful old houses and lots of trees. The move was initiated by me and I've been loving it ever since. My son is very happy in his first year of school at a cool alternative school. While my husband half-heartedly complains, he lived in and loved Halifax for 8 years prior to our buying our property in Cape Breton. He also now has full time work which he really enjoys and feels as though he has a clean slate and second chance now that a load of debt has been taken care of. I continue to be a full time mom and part time professional tarot reader from home.

One major issue I've been dealing with for a little over a year now is a stomach problem. Despite seeing several doctors, a specialist, a naturopath, and a chinese doctor and having a variety of medical tests done as well as trying medications ad nauseum I continue to have this problem.

I recently had a dream of being in Cape Breton and looking around in the grass. I kept finding snakes and picking them up. They were all about a meter long and as thick as a garden hose, but of varying colours. One I distinctly remember was shades of rose. The snakes twirled around my hands and arms. Far from being afraid or disgusted I was absolutely delighted. They were fascinating and I was filled with gratitude and awe at finding them. I know I found a lizard at one point, too. The dream ended when I found a toad and picked him up. He was the size of the palm of my hand and smooth and shiny. I thought to myself how it wasn't ugly at all and carefully put him back in the grass.

Can anyone offer any insight? I'd appreciate any and all views!

Snake dreams are considered very auspicious in this side of the world. A symbol of transformation, change, and like the Death card, it does represent leaving the old ways behind and embracing rebirth. The snake is considered very spiritual, as it is related to the kundalini at the base of our spine which opens with meditation and yoga. The fact that you were happy to be with the snakes is a positive sign, I would interpret it to mean a lot of changes taking place (which they have, with you moving house etc) and changes that are good for you. Also it could mean spiritual awakening or getting more in tune with Spirit.

I've had snake dreams since I was 15 and everytime I told someoen about them here they'd all say "Wow, good"

Blessings

whatever the snake energy represents to you, there sounds like there is a good concentration of it that you are currently in contact w/.

It's interesting that you should mention health problems, b/c snakes have been associated w/healing and medicine in a number of ways.

(p.s. hi eastarot :))

Thank you both for your insights. I was so glad to hear such positive things about snakes. I told a friend of mine about this dream and she read me something out of a dream interpretation book about evil, suspician and betrayal that left me completely desondant. Also, it just didn't seem to jive with the energy of the dream which was definately positive.

It's always been my belief that it's not so much WHAT is in the dream, but how you felt about it. Given your descriptions of curiosity and delight, it definitely sounds like a good omen to me. Either about upcoming events or reassurance that you are in a happy place right now.

As far as I know, snakes are by and large considered a symbol of transformation. They also represent psychic and creative energy. Interestingly, they can be seen either as a phallic symbol or as a symbol of Goddess energy.

I find it notable that you are mentioning your stomach troubles in the same message about your dream. It makes me wonder if you yourself have some insight as to what the dream might represent. You might want to journal it and see what might come out of your writing. If nothing now, then something might click with you later.

Thank you, lunar rabbit. I had the thought that maybe if I just keep looking for ways to heal my stomach I'll find something that works! I kind of feel like I've tried everything, but deep down I know I really haven't.

i'm with the others on the transformational qualities of snakes and toads, and the fact that you were not disturbed by any of the critters.

but setting all that aside, just to look at this dream as possibly giving clues to your stomach problems, a couple of 'off the wall' things crossed my mind.

have you asked your medical professionals about the possibility this might be caused by parasites? a huge percentage of people have various worms and never know it.

snakes also make me think of the intestines.

when i was first pregnant, i dreamt of frogs. later i discovered that frogs and toads were common dream themes during pregnancy. could this problem somehow be related to the reproductive system?

hope you will be feeling better soon!

Me too. I was wondering about tapeworms!

Zorya, Ace, I worried about that too, but I've had both blood tests, a gastroscopy (camera in my stomach), biopsies and, just in case, I completed an antiparasitic program with a very good naturopath. None resulted with any indication of parasites.

Zorya, how interesting about your dreams during pregnancy. Just the other night I dreamt of being 9 months pregnant and it was sooo real. I know I'm not pregnant at the moment, however, and haven't really been thinking about it, although now with my only baby being in his first year of full time school...

I'd really have to clear up this stomach thing before I considered anything like that though!

I'm no good at interpreting dreams but

doesn't the snake appear on the symbol for Medicine in America?

maybe your dream about snakes has something to do with your medical problem.

I also think dreaming of snakes has a sexual nature to it too, but I'd have to research that.
