New to Runes

I have never had a rune reading, but I am becoming quite interested.

What books would you recommend, and how does one go about chosing a set?

MM ~ Personally I'd recommend Freya Aswynn's "Leaves of Yggsdrasil" (I think it's been retitled "Northern Mysteries"), also the aforementioned Rune Mysteries by Silver Ravenwolf, for starters. Stay away from Ralph Blum, I bought his book because it was so pretty, but it's useless. BB, Stella

re: Freya Aswynn's "Leaves of Yggsdrasil" ("Northern Mysteries")

I have this book and like it. As with any book, they will help best
when combined with hands-on work, and time for meditation too.

I didn't think much of the Ralph Blum book either but I do like the Runes that came with the set. I think they make good beginners Runes - mine are a plain white lozenge of clay - very simple but effective. I also had some made of teraccota but they were of varying shapes and I didn't like to use those as much.

MM - I know what you mean about the varying shapes - I have a polished adventurine set and I've become so familiar with them, I can poke my hand in the bag and tell you which one I'm touching. I think they were originally made of "slips of wood". My to-do list includes ritual harvesting of an oak branch, which I will slice, woodburn, and stain...I don't know how we got away from wood in the first place, really. BB, Stella

Thanks to you all.

I have ordered a set of Amthyst engraved runes - Amethyst is my birthstone and I am being drawn to it at the moment.

I'll let you know how I get on with them.

Be prepared for Questions!!!
