Book to help with intuitive reading

BodhiSeed

Good morning all you ATers. I need some advice on a book that will help me connect with my intuition so that reading intuitively becomes more natural. I keep a journal and have tried Greer's "Tarot for Yourself", but I just feel stuck lately. I'm tired of continually looking up the meanings of the cards when I do a spread! Any suggestions?
Many blessings,

Isn't it a bit of an oxymoron to buy a book to read intuitively?

Sorry, I don't want to sound flippant, but intuition involves trusting something within you, without relying on the training wheels of a book. Look up Umbrae's infamous toothpick thread. Or see any of his posts on being an intuitive reader if you want some methods..

Thanks for the suggestion!

~Bodhran grins sheepishly~ Thank you Khatruman for directing me to Umbrae's thread. I suppose I was looking for an easier, softer way, but I should know by now that intuition is not something you can buy on a bookshelf, but something that must be experienced!

Interesting points about toothpick reading and stuff and I will have to try it but I would also hold the point of view that intuition is just culmination of past experience. For example, if you've read 10 books with 10 slightly different ways of reading the cards and 10 slightly different ways of approaching the cards will you remember all 10? Of course not but you'll have an overview and you'll remember what seemed important and relevent to you and from that your own unique perspective will develop (obviously you'll be working with the cards intermittantly while reading the books). I just figure that creativity should come after you know what experienced people have to say on the matter rather than before. Would be interested in other opinions on this anyways as reading loads of books then working on my own thoughts is the way I've been approaching the cards.

ps. Emphasis really is on reading a lot of books, I can see the arguement against relying on only one or two sources but I feel a variety of ideas from experienced readers has to be a solid way to start!

I have found Tarot Tells the Tale: Explore Three-Card Readings through Familiar Stories, by James Ricklef to be an interesting source for developing one's own intuition.

It tutors you gently through familiar stories/situations and helps you become part of the reading; it also gives you the freedom to use whatever meaning a certain card in a certain position you feel resonates with any particular event and see it from different perspectives, by paying attention to card's details, position, and past experiences, while at the same time staying true to the card's basic meaning.

This book will not negate the toothpick method, which I find highly effective in this respect, but it rather helps you in your infantile steps toward trusting your own intuition and will lead you gently toward developing your own insights, that are not etched in stone and will change according to each new reading .

Thanks Umbrae, for reminding me about my neglected Soul Cards. I bought them four or five years ago because the art mesmerized me (This was long before I got interested in tarot). Time to dust them off me thinks :).
Many Blessings,
