I've read a lot about soul retrieval and agree with most of what I've read. Stress and pressure can make a person loose track of parts of themselves, and trauma makes it worse. Focusing on getting splinter parts of yourself back again will help just about everyone. Even if she's not an actual cultural shaman, the technique is valid.

Nothing you listed that she said you needed to do could hurt you, and it does provide a way of you helping to heal yourself. It's all about starting the small changes, which make the larger ones start shifting into place. If it was me I'd continue to go with what she suggested. Be patient and use the exercises to focus on what you need to inside yourself.
