Your Altar

Briar Rose

I love the altar box. I hope you don't mind, but I just order a couple of compasses to make my own. I go out to the woods a lot with my crystals, and singing bowls. I love the creative idea. Thank you so much for sharing.

I'm happy the idea catches on. I had it from the Internet myself - just google altoid altars and you see many lovely examples.

At the moment, I'm working on a lararium - a place where to remember our ancestors.

Glass Owl

Here are a few closeups of two bookshelf altars I posted earlier.

These objects came to me in different ways. Several are from thrift stores. The gold tone Kuan Yin (in the center of shelf #2) came from Epcot and it was the only souvenir I bought on the trip.

oh such beautiful objects, Glass Owl!

May I ask what the black object on the right hand side is?

Glass Owl

Here is another grouping of shelf altars. The top one features some of my owl pieces, including the small red glass one that was gifted to me by another AT member. The large red painted one was given to me by a guy who sold me some small Buddha statues at his garage sale. (Those Buddha statues are on a small iron bookshelf - another altar I will post pics of later). I bought the chuck of amethyst on top a week or so after my dad passed away and helped me a lot during that time.

The teal Kuan Yin in the center of the lower shelf was a curbside rescue. I talked about her before in another post long ago. I am very attached to her. She has two Rudraksha Seed malas wrapped around her. Occasionally, I will pull one off and wear it.

The dried flowers have an unique story. A few years ago my husband bought them from a houseless man who was selling them on Valentine's Day. They are palm fronds that were braided to form flowers.

The wooden Taoist man was another thrift store find. Unfortunately a tiny part of his staff broke off so I need to superglue it back on.

Glass Owl

May I ask what the black object on the right hand side is?

Sure - please feel to ask about any piece~ At the thrift store I stumbled upon a bag for $2 that contained that black object as well as an old sandstone? carved Buddha (which now is to the right of my teal Kuan Yin). I strongly suspect both pieces were part of the same collection.

The black object is a Hawaiian lava rock statue (a HIP original) that was made in 1973. He is Ku, an Hawaii God. While the sticker was removed from my piece, I found a pic of online:

"TIKI GOD. This Hawaiian God was the equivalent of Zeus. He was the Big Daddy of them all. Chief of all the male Gods of Hawaii, Ku bestows virility, strength, courage, leadership, authority, bull-dog tenacity, long life... all that good stuff."

THANK YOU GLASS OWL!

I thought it had a bit of a Tiki vibe, but when something is black, it can be hard to see all the details. I think it is lovely you are arranging all these beautiful pieces into altars.

Here is a better picture of him under a light. He doesn't weigh much as he is made of lava rock.

Glass Owl

I just hope that whoever once owed the Ku statue and the sandstone buddha would be happy that they are being displayed in this fashion.

Oh, here is a picture of my little Buddha altar. The Buddha in the middle came from an import store, it was probably carved in Indonesia. I wanted to put the sandstone Buddha with them but I am afraid that it would be too much weight for the shelf.

I am in the process of getting some of those white hooks so I can properly hang up my purple lights. The tape just isn't working.

Oh I love that, Glass Owl!

That is amazing. I hope sometime at night you take a pic when lights show :)).
