All these beautiful altars! I have a little tray table covered in white satin cloth with just the basics on it since I usually work outside. After looking at these, I'm thinking that I may want to consider putting more thought into it - for the times that I have to work indoors.

FAVOURITE ALTARS...do show yours!

So - I saw the Altar thread in the AT Crystals section - and my enthusiasm was forcibly curbed by the limitation of "Crystals" - so here's me waxing more lyrical about Altars.

How I love an Altar,
Such drama, such mystery, such soul invocation!
The eye is captured, the hands swayed by tactile delight,
and the heart warmed with the practice of gratitude and wonder!

1) Tiny Anubis - he's an inch high and sits on a Lapis Lazuli jewellery box
2) Upasht/Bastet - she's made of Malachite
3) Dark Altar to Herne/Cernnunos - this is my primary home working Altar
4) Andraste! (in the guest toilet )
5) Tibetan Temple bell and Foo dog incense holder in the living room, facing all the telly watchers.

Here's my Working Tarot Altar - on the wall.

Presently has a Yule Theme - shortly to be changed to Imbolc...
though no snowdrops just yet. It's Imbolc when the snowdrops are out.

Beautiful, Tanga! I LOVE your Upasht/Bastet, made of Malachite. Malachite is one of my FAVORITE crystals!!!

I also enjoyed seeing your hanging wall altar. Very creative way of having an altar! gives me some ideas.

thank you for sharing.

Tanga I'm fascinated by this! What a wonderful idea, especially for small spaces. I don't tend to have a lot of objects lying around, as it's dusty here.

Do you draw cards to display, or choose a particular card deliberately? If it's not too personal, would you like to talk a little about the items that are part of your altar?

(re the other thread: I couldn't see a post from Tanga at the end so thought I might as well continue this conversation).

OK (N.B. Those pockets on the wall are basically plastic A4 filing pockets, trimmed and blue-tacked onto the wall).

So the Wall Tarot Alter is sort of divided into 4:
Top left there is a miniature of the mandala that I painted in contemplation of my Patron Deity (i.e. the Deity I have chosen - or if you prefer - has chosen me - as my Personal guide/Go To Deity. It's a common practice in Wiccan groups for each individual to eventually have a personal Patron - and this practice is likely incorporated from elsewhere so I'm sure lots of other Traditions have this as well. Though painting a mandala to represent it - was my private thing and not something generally done/suggested.). This Patron Deity happens to be Hermaphroditic - so - there I have both the God and Goddess on my Altar. Lol

Then the other 3 sections which contain cards are divided between:
1) A selection of cards that represent the particular Wiccan season/festival of the year.
In this photograph, it was Yule (December 21st, The Winter Solstice) and the card for that is
The High Priestess. There are 4 High Priestesses on the wall here, including the black circle with 2 white half moons that you see just to the right of the Mandala. I choose more than one card because it's interesting to see the different interpretations and contemplate/think about them - or just let my eye enjoy the riot of colour.
How I came to the decision about which cards represent which of the 8 Wiccan festivals... I cannot remember except that it was to do with someone else posting their ideas about it on this forum.

2) A selection of cards which are the particular "spell" - or prayer/wish, idea, that I'm contemplating bringing into my life at that moment. In this photo, starting bottom left these cards are - Ace of Cups, 9 of Cups, 10 of Pentacles. (I don't remember what that "spell" was for now so I can't explain it. I don't write them down or memorise them. Part of the idea of doing magic is - you do it, and then let it go/forget about it, trusting that if it is to be so and also be for "the good of all" [including all the efforts you have made on the mundane level towards it] - then it will manifest.).

3) A selection of cards that have just appealed to me at the time to add in - perhaps related in some way either to my "spell" or the cards representing the Wiccan season.
For instance sometimes I just choose them because the colours match prettily - and sometimes because they make an additional statement linked to the display.
In this photo these are The 4 of Wands and The Star - top right.

There rest is "paraphernalia". Lol - a string of Animals, Native American style - representing a connection to the wild (Wicca being a nature religion or spiritual practice). A false flower on the wall (as I can't practically put real ones on there) - Altars are often decorated with flowers. I have a selection and change them.
A ring of amber beads. Amber has a tradition of being part of a Witches necklace... I think this may come from The Norse Tradition - because Freya - Goddes of Love and Magic - got her power from her magickal amber necklace. Sometimes I hang some other crystal on the side there.
In the middle I have an Ankh that I bought years ago second hand, but don't wear any more, and a brooch with 2 ladies on either side of a scarab beetle.
Egyptian Mythology was my first love on my spiritual quest. And my Patron Deity is Ancient Egyptian.
...And the tiny round purple disc - next to the 2 ladies with Scarab - is a Wing Tsun Kung Fu - cherry blossom. - I study Kung Fu. It is a spiritual practice in itself.
