Planets-Between-Partners Series: Sun-Mercury

dadsnook2000

Again, we use the basic "synergistic" meanings or keywords for the planets in order to start our discussion: Sun represents vitality, creativiey, will, self; Mercury represents thinking, categorizing, communication, expression of one's interests. And, as before, there are distinct differences between the aspectual combinations.

When one Sun conjuncts, sextiles or trines the partner's Mercury we find the creative urges and will harmonizes well with understanding, communicating, and expressing common interests. These two can work very well and effectively together. The Sun person does have a lot of influence and encouragement for the Mercury person. Mercury can,and will, counter with logic and ideas to meet his/her expectations. But the bottom line is that these two will do well together.

When we talk about the Sun opposite the partner's Mercury we are talking about the same issues as above -- EXCEPT that the attraction and interaction does not lead to the ease of expression one would hope for. There will be tensions, the question is will the Sun be overbearing and try to "rule" the Mercury person, will Mercury argue and alter agreements with the Sun person? To answer those questions we have to look at what other aspects the Sun and Mercury have in their respective charts. Mercury is the cognitive and categorizing process we each have -- but this process is often easily influenced by whatever planetary aspects that Mercury has. On the other hand, the Sun empowers any planets that it contacts and brings them into its "energizing field" -- this integration factor enlarges the Sun's influence. In this game, Mercury may be outmatched often, but not always.

This difference between the two comes into sharper play when there is a square between them. With the square, Mercury is on stronger ground and can stand up to the other person's Sun. In fact, Mercury can be downright shifty and deceitful if it serves its purpose. These two may each apply their respective strengths against each other, leading to disrespect, alienation to some degree, manipulation, etc.

So, these two astrological bodies can play a quite different role in partner's charts than we are used to seeing in a natal chart where most of these aspects just don't come into play. So, take a close look a the charts of you and your partner and get ready for surpises. Dave

my husbands mercury at 5 sagitarius sextiles my sun at 4 libra

all i can think of is discussions about truth/philosophies/life views which we have had over the years and they have been quite spirited discussions - we go from plane to plane basically both of us just expressing our thoughts/questions/judgements - its good when it happens but theres no actual ending place/result lol - just seems to be an outlet to talk out our *stuff*

That's Mercury . . .

That's Mercury for you, it's just what it is; perception, categorizing, communicating, thinking, comparing -- but not necessarily action taken. That depends upon what Mercury is aspecting. Mercury is mental processing. So what you say seems to fit quite well.

Does either the Sun or Mercury, in this aspect pattern, have any strong contact with another planet or point in the chart?

Pluto square another's Mercury!

In synestry applications, Pluto tends to intensify things. What Mercury says, Pluto siezes upon, turns and twists it, tries to get inside the thought. Pluto may argue or discuss a point just to see if it can be changed or altered. Mercury might, might, tend to parse or segment what Pluto's view is so as to better understand it and respond to it more precisely.

These two tend to nervousness and intense focus within one person's chart, but between charts they will work in other ways. Perhaps others on the list have some experience with this. Dave.
