Best Printing Accurate Available

earth en lady

Hello all I am seeking to replace my universal waite cards and want to buy the most accurate deck available .So that I may study PCS original artwork ,I know that the original Rider Waite deck is available but have found the printing a little basic and is it really similar to the original ?,so I would be very grateful if anyone could recommend a good clear and undoctered deck ?
Many Thanks

Hello :) earth en lady! Could you clarify undoctered
and especially if new or used would be acceptable?

Sulis

I would say if you can get yourself a 1970s Rider Tarot.

It comes in a two part blue box with The World Card on the front.

They show up all the time on ebay uk and are often very cheap.

Lovely...

Unless you want to spend at least £300 for an original, a modern reproduction will have to do. There are a lot of nice ones out there. This is one deck you really don't have to spend a fortune on to get a good one.

I like the one Sulis mentioned. Most of the ones in the yellow box are actually pretty good too. I prefer the ones printed in Switzerland to China or Italy.

Thanks Sulis and Abrac I shall keep an eye out on ebay .Fulgour I guess i just mean as original to the first decks as possible in colour and tiny details as I have been reading The Talking tree by William Gray and he goes into tiny details such as the number of creases and their significance on gowns etc and recommends a good long study using a magnifying glass while meditating on the symbolism .I am not too bothered if the deck is new or used as I will probably use this deck initially only for studying the Qabalistic correspondences with regards to the paths .
Thanks again :)

A "standard" deck will certainly do well enough!
If you can find a collector's item, all the better.

And then if, for example, you click on [9] for CUPS
you'll go to a page where, if you click on the small

earth en lady, I just had an afterthought.

The new decks you find in stores today are most likely going to be printed in Italy and have typeset lettering for the titles. PCSmith did the originals by calligraphy so this is something I would definitely call doctored. If you get the deck new in a shop, I would check it out first to be sure, or ask if you get it online.

Hi Earth en lady,

Just to let you know that there are 2 Rider Tarot's on ebay uk at the moment.

I have nothing to do with either auction so here are the links:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RIDER-CO-LOND...5QQihZ016QQcategoryZ19271QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rider-Company...6QQihZ016QQcategoryZ19271QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

And another old version (I have this one too) and the colouring and lamination are the same as in the Rider version but this version has the US Games copyright mark in the margin: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RIDER-WAITE-T...4QQihZ009QQcategoryZ19271QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Thankyou Sulis and all :)
On my shopping trip round ebay I managed to win a set of giant Rider Waite Tarot cards a healthy 10 by 7 cms so I can leave my glasses off ;)
Does anyone have any ideas of how correctly coloured these are as I am still a little confused as to whether the original greeny hued deck is the same as a pam A or the rider decks with the bright blue colouring ? Or does anyone know if there are scans of a complete Pam A deck online anywhere ?
Thanks again

Joan Bunning shows several different types of Rider-Waites here: (just click on the name of each for more information)

http://www.learntarot.com/deckcomp.htm

Bunning writes this about the Original Rider-Waite:

"The Original Rider-Waite Tarot Pack contains a facsimile edition of the popular Rider-Waite Tarot deck. This edition is based on the version of the deck originally printed from plates that were destroyed during the bombing of London during World War II."

Why were there more colors used on the later versions? Perhaps the end of World War II made a difference in the colors available for printing. Anyone have any ideas?
