I got sidetracked, and finished four other cards before I put the last touches to the Cross, which is why it took my so long, but today I finally uploaded it. It was one of the cards I found most difficult to illustrate. Because while I needed to make a cross shaped object the card's main feature in a way which expressed the card's meaning I also desperately wanted to stay away from too overtly Christian or worn-out symbolism (e.g. a gravestone in the shape of a cross, or someone carrying a wooden cross). So in my version of the Cross the cross itself is not a physical object as such. The cross exists as a shadow in the shape of a cross. I write much more about the reason for this as well as the other details of the illustration on the "interpretation" page of my website.
marking half-time, I uploaded the Sun! If you are familiar with the Anna.K Tarot, you'll notice immediately that my Tarot's Sun and my Lenormand's Sun follow the same concept. This isn't due to laziness! When I first started sketching I intended to develop a very different design, and even finished one. But it didn't work for me. What I produced was quite good, but it was second best. After all, the Suns in Tarot and in Lenormand have very, very similar meanings. And my Tarot's Sun felt like the perfect expression of both. So I ended up discarding the new design and returned to the original Tarot design. I did adjust it, to the slightly different style of my Lenormand, but I kept the basic concept.
I also love that sun card! That and the Bear are my faves I think, but I am enjoying all of them. The cross is a great one too, and probably my favorite cross card ever. I like it better then just a regular cross. It speaks volumes to me, showing that the cross is more then just a spiritual thing and/or suffering. The coffin is a bit dark and even creepy, isn't it? It really feels like "the end" looking at it. Its very well done. Anna, you're creating a wonderful deck! I can't wait for it to be available.
