Books of Black Magick?

Zephyros

I'm not planning to do anything of the sort, but I was wondering if there actually are books written by dark magicians, Necronomicon-style (but real) books, so-called forbidden books, dangerous books or anything of the sort, or is it all the inventions of pop-writers? I'm not thinking of the modern sort, but the real old ones.

Something like they had on Buffy, but real :)

I would try to find the bibliography of A. E. Waite's A Book of Black Magic. He is usually very careful and thorough about listing his original sources.

ETA. Meanwhile, here is something to peruse when you have the time.

Lol I wish I knew how to do the "here"]......

It's black magic. })

Actually, just hit the QUOTE button at the bottom of that post, and you'll see how I put the link into "here". The only trick is not to leave any spaces inside the square brackets.

Grigori

Probably many that are regularly discussed would fall into that category. Goetia for example. Grimorium Verum has a pretty dark reputation, and is fairly accessible online. There are a number of grimoires with satanic takes on earlier work, maybe worth looking at La Vey's works and such.

The Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells is very good, and has examples of both white and black magic from many different cultures. I can't remember if it has a bibliography, but it might be worth considering. :)

I tend to agree with Grigori that, from my non inclusive research, that many books are reputed to be black, but that's merely their reputation. The Grimorium Verum seems to concentrate more on getting material things rather than enlightenment, but not "evil," at least not by its own definitions.

Yeah, there is nothing wrong about wanting material things.

I think too many people have watched Charmed where doing spells about material things only caused troubles, and was considered bad.
