samantha

The patterning looks like this :

Sorry for the poor quality !!

I need to know which number it is given , and maybe any
insights on what that number signifies (Tho' no doubt I can
track that down on the net ......so any good web-sites would
also be useful !)

Many thanks.

Hi samantha, the pattern you drew is called K'an, Repeating, Gorge, or The Abysmal (in the sense of an abyss). The number is 29.

All of the I Ching hexagrams are formed from two of the basic trigrams. So, of course, 8 of the hexagrams will be doubled trigrams, and this is one.

K'an is bold and impetuous. It leaps into danger and passes through it by not stopping or hesitating. It is a sense of 'wild courage' (I always liked that description). But, it also represents the danger itself. And advice on how to pass through it.

When you draw K'an, it tells you that only you are facing danger, but how to pass through it. Not hesitating and not stopping is the principal advice. The spirit of K'an is the spirit that gives you energy and courage to pass through what is facing you.

Macavity, I saw your post after I had realized that the first cup of coffee had not kicked in and I had reversed the lines in my head.
samantha, if you saw it, I initially described the mirror image of K'an, Li. As I was thumbing through my well loved book for the correct one, it fell open to "Humbling".

According to me (or rather to: http://oaks.nvg.org/re5ra18.html ) that would be #29 the Larch... no wait: Kan - The Abysmal (Water). I reckon? :)

P.S. to Marion: Two minutes in it... Next time! })

Thanks !!

I took a look at the classical translation ...it was a little heavy
going for me , and then found "The Wisdom of the I ching" at
www.geocities.com
This was more accessable , and with reference to I ching
29 , Kan , made a great deal of sense !!
