Pre-Reading Rituals

Some authors go into great lengths to explain the rituals necessary before a reading is given. It is my opinion, that rituals serve to “get your mind right”, to “be here now”. Like a pianist sitting down before a keyboard does not just rip into a piece. They sit, get their mind right, and then produce music.

What ever you find necessary to do, to get your mind in the correct space before a reading, you should do. This is not a parlor game.

Rune Casting (Divination)

In all readings, the sitter faces north with eyes cast upwards in supplication to their God(s) for truth. They draw the appropriate number of stones from the bag.

Alternately, the stones may be cast onto a cloth, and the runes picked from the tossings (eyes cast upwards, the stones drawn blindly, trusting in thy deity).

Usually a question may be posed by the sitter. The Runes often provide answers that lay below the question. Onyx stones tend to notice the real question (for me-personal opinion here).

Questions about third parties tend not to work, the stones will look back on the sitter and their relationship with the third party in question.

During a reading, most folks think in terms of meanings, they do not want to make mistakes. That is a compulsion from childhood, which needs to be addressed.

It is the old “don’t make mistakes, it is a test, you will be scored” hang up.

The goal is this: You know the meanings. Stop thinking, and begin listening to that which speaks without a voice.
