How did you choose your tarot cards?

denv12

I would like to get an idea how you chose your tarot deck.

The deck I had years ago was the "Prediction Deck"(shown on this site).I chose it because I had a reading down by a woman who is also the same starsign "Libra".I liked the cards.Just cant remember what the suits of the minor arcana cards are called.Swords and cups sounds familiar.Would like to find another deck with those names.

I am now looking for something modern similar to those 22 Angel Tarot seen on this site but I want a 78 cards not 22.Bright,cheerful colours would be nice.

Can you recommend a book that tells the detailed meanings of each card?

Thanks.

Chris.

It is a hard job choosing a replacement deck for something you previously had and loved

there are a million decks out there and the choices can be overwhelming.

My current favourite deck is the Druidcraft and I find it a beautiful deck. The colours and the imagery are lovely. (no doubt there would be many people who would claim they dont like it or it is too processed LOL Firemaiden)

Other people here would suggest you start off with the Rider Waite Smith but from one Aussie to another I would say Druidcraft.

My suggestion if you like the colors and fanciful images

1. Ciro Marchetti's Gilded Tarot comes with a book and is easy to order. You can see scans and more information here

http://www.ciromarchetti.com/

Here's a review:

You can order the Gilded Tarot from amazon.com or perhaps you have a local bookstore that someone from Australia can recommend you to visit. Also, Tarotgarden.com and places that ship to Australia can send it to you.

2. There's a newer one called Tarot of Dreams, which has a CD with book that you can print from the CD....that is also on Ciro Marchetti's website.

You seemed attracted to that gentle or idealistic photo-realism, deep and rich colors, and fanciful images, so perhaps this as a pretty alternative for you..

Best regards,

If you like pretty illustrations...

My next suggestion if you like pretty illustrations is the FairyTale Tarot. It has a great book, although it seems slim when you first open it. But there's a lot to it

The first three decks that I recommended -- Gilded/Dreams/Fairytale have pictures in all the pip cards--swords, cups, coins and wands.

Do let us know if you do not want pictures in the suited cards. Predication does have 16 court cards with King, Queen, Knight and Page, but Ace through 10 do not have pictures--they are called the suited cards in the minor arcana.

I suggested Lovers Tarot previously, which also has a good book by Jane Lyle and similarities to your preference to the Prediction Tarot.

My best wishes on your search.

Cerulean beat me to it :p So I'll just post a paragraph.

Ciro Marchetti's art is very colourful, very well done. I'd definately recommend the Gilded tarot if you are looking for something "modern". You can't get much more modern than digital art, if done right, like Ciro Marchetti has they just look fantastic. The Tarot of dreams is even better, but more costly as it comes in that package that contains a CD with lots of content (I'll have to get it one day!).

This site is very helpful in finding what I like, I've found I've become attracted to decks that use the style of Ciro Marchetti, digital works. I also like themed decks (although I've yet to get one) like the Dragon Tarot, or the Tarot of the 78 doors, I enjoy looking how even when each card in the deck has something in common (dragons, keys/doors) to keep in theme, each card can still hold the same symbolism as RWS or other tarot decks. Even when they follow the same Fools journey, they can add new twists via their theme.

To all replies...

Thank you for all your replies.I have looked through the ones you have suggested. They all look great.

Even though the prediction deck is out of print I think its time to update.I dont really miss those cards I had.

There are so many tarot decks shown on this site.It took me ages to look through them.

Thank you for your advice.

Chris.

FYI as one Aussie top another as well :) The Gilded tarot is available at Dymocks (if you have one near you not sure what part of Oz you are in - they also have internet orders) The Druidcraft is also really easily available as well.

If this is the book from the set that you have meantioned http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Predictions-...ryZ70688QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The cards on the cover appear to be from the Cachet Tarot ( http://www.tarotpassages.com/cachet-lb.htm )which is a lot like the Gilded in colour scheme. The deck is still for sale although kind of difficult to get in australia (not many people ship it here) although it can be ordered through angusrobertson.com

Radiant Rider-Waite = Radiant Colors!

I would recommend the Radiant Rider-Waite Tarot... the colors are MUCH brighter than the website shows. I believe it has the suits you are looking for: :WL Wands, :CL Cups, :SS Swords, and :OS Pentacles.

I just have to put in my vote for the Gilded. It's a wonderful deck. I can't say enough good about it.

I have all these decks (apart from the fairytale) and all I can say is that you can't go wrong with any of them. The Gilded works for me with relationship readings, but a friend sees it as a spiritual deck. The Druidcraft is beautiful, and I like the Universal Rider Waite, as opposed to the Radiant, because the colours are lovely, but not as vivid. But you may like vivid.

Wonder what you'll pick?!

Jan :)
