When does the "Death" card mean an actual Death?

Queen Hippolyta

When does the Death card in a reading actually mean someone is going to die? Would like to know of some examples others have come across regarding this.

Is it a where the card is located, reversed or just a feeling? Please tell me everything.

Thank you

The only time I saw it in my tarot (someone's physical death) I got the 9 Swords, then Death, Tower, and 3 Swords. But I think it might be different every time, depending on the person who is dying, and what they are dying of, and their relation to you. I think you would know right away in your gut what it meant - I sure did - the hair on my neck stood up...

Remember that the tarot does not predict, so much as tell you how you yourself will be feeling about things. So in that regard, I don't think the cards were so much predicting a death, as telling me what I would soon be feeling - and they were correct in that regard. Tarot is far more about you and your mind and heart than anything else, I do find...and I certainly would not go purposefully looking for a death in the cards! :bugeyed:

I agree with the previous post the Death card is so difficult to predict an actual death sometimes, i usually just go with having at least the 10, 4, 3 of swords with the Tower before i would say a physical death had happened? but i guess it depends on how accurate someone's intuition can be with knowing if there was an actual ending to someones life.

You might get the death with some of the swords mentioned above and lets say the 5 of pents with the Tower, this could be someone dying of a natural body illness or terminal illness?

I once got The Tower + Death + 10 of Swords and optimistically thought hey, some huge chaotic change with bring about the end to my mental torture....and no, my dog died the next day. :(

The only time when I saw an actual death in a card it wasn't the Death card, it was the World card in one of Ciro's decks, legacy I believe. It was spot on.

.... not the death card, just thought I would share this.

there is a wonderful thread from the past on here where people posted their combinations which meant death! it was really interesting. I don't think any card on it's own can mean actual death unless you really feel intuitively that is right.

ooh found it - http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=173550
there is many other threads on here as well with people's combinations. its quite fascinating to read all the different ways it could come up. You mostly realise it afterwards though :(

hard to determine

I read for a woman the other day and one of the questions she asked was about her future love life - the Death card came up right away as the first/theme card and I asked her why? Either she is completely changing her approach to her love life or the way her love has been going is about to be completely transformed and she said, "My ex-husband died a few months ago and we were talking about reuniting. Maybe that's why the death card has shown up so prominently."

^^I had the same experience 5 weeks ago when I did a love reading for myself and got the death card as the first card along with a bunch of swords. My first thought was whoa my next relationship looks to be a horrible one. Then about a week later I got news that a relative was hospitalized and i remembered that reading because it just didn't make sense to me. I posted it here: http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=202167

The following week my relative died. I kept getting the death card over and over. I believe that that the cards did tell me but I had no idea what it was about until AFTER the fact. I haven't seen the death card for the past few days, but this has been a real eye opener for me.

Okay but how did you know the person would die?
