Nicoletta Ceccoli's Tarot

Amanda

I used this deck as my Deck of the Week last week and put my readings (with pictures) on my blog. I have no issues with the deck...

Thanks, I checked them out! I'm not accustomed to short daily kinds of readings, but I do think I was able to grasp the gist of your days. It does seem to have a purposefully intended contrast between "connected" and "disconnected" in the way the imagery is done... like a purposeful quality of misdirection. But within that contrast and misdirection, it seems to end up highlighting the true message more clearly, actually, by having noticed the misdirection first. It is a bit odd, in that I can't say that I've looked at artwork that supplied meaning in quite this way, but it worked and I got the message.

If I were to personify this deck, I would say that it has a little bit of a pouty/panicky attitude of, "Don't look at me, I'm not pretty!" even though by contrast it actually has some nice qualities and is filled with some nice things; that may be where its sense of misdirection comes from. In my opinion, this deck (personified again) seems skittish and needs a gentle hand to get it to come to you with its truer meaning. I recommend being careful of jumping at the seemingly intended misdirection this deck presents first.

I received this yesterday and it's even more beautiful in person than what I've seen online. It really has a dreamy theme to it.

Some things actually confuse me, like that some cards are almost 100% RWS-like, some cards are close to the RWS but still have a very unique touch, and then some cards are almost "what the hell, this doesn't make sense at all?!", to me at least... :)

I haven't used it yet for readings, and I think that either my intuition will connect with this deck instantly or it's gonna be an "unreadable" deck for me (oh I pray it won't be!). It's just so different from what I'm used to.

I don't get the pedophile-vibes at all (though I admit the card where the girl gets spanked makes me a little bit uncomfortable), but I do feel like this deck would be good for working with problems that arose during childhood and to some extent childhood traumas. I was in psychotherapy for a year myself, and I have a bachelor in social work so I could work as a counselor, so that really appeals to me. I think I wouldn't use this for "mundane" readings or daily draws, but rather for those deep questions revolving around the soul and life path.

There's a mini in the works!

Just seen on the Book Depository - 200 days or more to wait still - but there is going to be a mini!

I see now I have been missing this thread. It has gotten quite interesting.

"Who are your characters and what story or message they have?

My stories are about the mysteries of adolescence. My girls innocently and sensually allure without being completely aware of this delicate passage. In my playful way, I like to suggest a mischievous sensuality. Some of my work brings to mind the iconography of the martyrs… St. Sebastian, St. Teresa…. bodies ‘slain’ in pain, but appearing almost in the throes of pleasure at the same time. These pictures show bodies of martyrs punished and tormented, and the more wounded and tormented they are, the more they shout their sensual presence.

My protagonists are fairies that I dream of, candidly expressing cruelty, loneliness and fragility, and simultaneously flaunting beauty and madness. My work is poetic on the surface and speaks of a child’s sweetness, while the contradictions, like the dark side of a nursery rhyme, betray my deeper anxieties."

Tarotwolf, thanks for this quote. It explains a lot.

I found the Ceccoli quite dark, and in fact have spoken only half-jokingly of including it into the dark and gothic category here. I have also said somewhere else that this is a sort of "pedophilia meets necrophilia" deck, but I think the discussion here has strangely strayed into the clinical.

I feel for Nina*, who's one of my favorite people in the whole wide world. I don't think the people who spoke of pedophilia (myself included) found anything exploitative about the deck.

It's so beautiful and disturbing, a bit like Jan Svankmajer's version of Alice in Wonderland, but with a glossier, more sensuous surface --spun sugar laced with cyanide. I looked at it online, and shuddered, and looked again, and, yes, ended up buying it. (I still don't dare read with it, though.)

And by the way, the Lo Scarabeo folks did outdo themselves with this deck, IMHO. The box, the borders, it's as close to perfection as a mass market Tarot deck can get.

Really?! This is one of my favorite decks, so I will definitely be getting the mini. Thanks for the info :)

I just ordered this deck and can't wait to get it. I'm thrilled to know a mini is in the works!

Prepare yourselves, as I'll be gushing about this deck...

Finally! I can't believe I waited so long to get this deck. It's beautiful online, but this deck has such presence that it's even more beautiful in person, and there's a lot more detail than I could appreciate before.

It's a lovely, very unique deck. It's dreamy, yet intensely evocative. (You know what I mean? Like Shadowscapes is dreamy, but it's not nearly as striking to me as the Ceccoli... And it does seem to create strong reactions). It has such mood to it; it truly is it's own world. I love the mix of pastels and darker colors. I'm just beyond thrilled with this deck. Every card is gorgeous and wildly interesting. It's so full of layers, that I find the imagery to be inexhaustible. It is exactly what I look for in a Tarot deck.

Also, I already liked Lo Scarabeo cardstock before, but this is even better - it's slightly thicker than some of my older Lo Scarabeo decks. Mine does have a strong smell (which was intense when I first took it out of the box, but it's aired out a bit, and I otherwise really don't mind it).

I'm so excited they're making a mini version - my eyes lit up reading that!!

Yes it's beautiful.

Everything about it is perfect- the production values, colours, card choices, box (who needs a bag?) etc. Love the sinister melancholy. I'm normally very cautious about using decks I don't know particularly well to read for others with (prefering more trial runs with myself and my partner). I'm complaisant and tend to stick with the ones I know read easily, but I had some friends over from Shanghai recently and there was something about the aesthetic of this deck that made me think they'd like it. They loved it and it did reading after reading that made perfect sense.

It is a phenomenal reading deck. I used it a few days later at a dinner party - again - thinking I didn't know the deck well enough yet and that it might be risky - but my goodness - lay these cards down and they read like a dream.

This is the only tarot deck I own where I don't instinctively look at the titles when I turn a card over. These images just sing.

Yes but we must wait another 300 days or so... But there is something about the standard deck "as is" that makes me feel that it is enough, to be honest. I find LoS decks very manageable and this one works nicely the way it is.

But of course I shall buy a mini. Or two.
