The Wild Unknown Tarot

The theme of that email was really nostalgia and pictures from it's creation so I think Ace and Allianora could be right! like I said before the other versions Kim has posted were always not the best final design and could explain the Swan and Devil which Aeric commented on so brilliantly! If they were alternatives, thank goodness the Devil was not so anthropomorphized!

Hopefully more info and pics of what is changing will be coming and it can only be about 4 to 6 weeks away to be in time for the holidays :) I think this email tone was like "goodbye" and one will be coming with the new!

I was under the impression that she was only recoloring some of the original drawings, not adding new drawings. the alternate drawings i've seen were rejects from the first edition.

Yes, I've seen all of these drawings before too.. I don't think there's any indication from that email that these are the new, revised cards.

OaksWhispering

Ah! I had never seen the rejects. Perhaps the revised will just have something to do with color like some others have suggested. I guess we will just have to wait.
I never got the guide book since the pages I saw were not too helpful, so I too hope that it gets upated with more insight.

new info!

from thewildunknown.com:

"Our new edition deck includes: 6 revised full color cards, a new insert/poster, new cardbacks, and updated packaging. Same good vibes, even more epic."

I'd like to think that they'll go back to the soft, buttery cardstock they used when the 1st edition First came out. I was sorely disappointed with my subsequent copies. Meanwhile, I'll probably have to get this new edition - just because.... Hopefully they'll post pics. I'm sure gonna miss the card backs though.

this confuses me does that mean that only these six are in full color... or all the cards will now be in full color along with these six?
Guess it will remain to be seen.

This stopped me from buying more copies of the first edition.....

Hoping for the same good for their 2nd ed.

Pixna

I just received the 2nd edition. I love it almost as much as the first edition. Here are my initial thoughts:

Pros:
* The box has more color.
* The box seems snugger and tighter and is less likely to open without deliberately trying to open it.
* There is more color to several of the cards. Of particular note (among others) are Temperance, Lovers, Four of Swords, Nine of Wands,
* The cards have a silkier, softer, more buttery feel to them.

On the fence:
* I loved the original backs. The new backs look like snakeskin or netting, which is also lovely. But it will take me a little while to adjust to them.
* The Lovers card is now multicolored. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I really liked the original peaceful blue.

Cons:
* There's a layout on the back of the box that isn't mentioned anywhere in the get-started guide. I'd like to know what it is and how to use it!
* The cards feel slightly thinner and more bendy. I preferred the slightly thicker original cards. Because of the thinner cards, the box is slightly narrower/shorter.
* The Seven of Cups has been replaced. The new Seven of Cups is a perfectly wonderful card, but I preferred the optical illusion of the original, and I greatly miss that. (Although, to be fair, this new card is a bit of an optical illusion as well.)
* There's a new Four of Swords. I preferred the original version. This lamb looks a little too cheerful and less realistic.
* The cards have a bit of an odor to them.

I know I'll enjoy this version and am looking forward to using it as much as my original edition. If you have the 2nd edition, what do you think about it?

Thanks, Pixna!

I like the sound of the cardstock and the thinner cards (easier to hold while shuffling), but as for all the other revisions... when it ain't broke, I can't see any point in fixing it. :(

I wonder if I can find somewhere to "try before I buy" - handle the cards, see how much difference the cardstock and thickness really make. Probably won't buy, though, since I'm not a collector.

PS. My box is already snug enough to feel like suction breaking as it opens; can't imagine the lid sliding off accidentally.

The new WU

I really love the new seven of cups, but the other changes are not really an improvement... Nor are they worse... They're just different.

Many people already gave their opinion on the new deck in this thread, in case you're interested :)
