Mythic Tarot or Sacred Circle? Which one would you pick?

I just picked up the Mythic Tarot and could not decide between that one and Sacred Circle. I haven't opened the cards yet because the Sacred Circle is still on my mind and I can't make up my mind about the 2 and I cannot buy both. Anyone have an opinion on which one they would buy or if you have either one of these decks please let me know ASAP because in about an hour I think I going to go exchange for Sacred Circle lol!

Hi Deb, of course this is a personal choice for you, but you may want to keep in mind these considerations:

The Mythic is better if you prefer Greek myths.

The Sacred Circle is better if you prefer Pagan and/or nature symbology.

If you want something which follows the standard Tarot structure, you're better off with the Mythic, which uses the R-W-S-type meanings for the Minors. Although they look different, the underlying meanings are the same. The Sacred Circle, on the other hand, replaces a lot of the standard symbology on the Majors, switches around several of the numbers of the Majors (on the Mythic the Majors are unnumbered), and changes the titles of practically all the Majors (the Mythic uses all the standard titles). For the Minors, the Sacred Circle uses different meanings for some of the cards.

If you need to have Minors with scenes on them, stick with the Mythic. The Sacred Circle is basically pips with very pretty landscapes as backgrounds.

The Mythic can basically be used like any standard Tarot deck. The Sacred Circle requires some relearning and readjusting. Some people love it but some find they can't work with it. I think the artwork is absolutely gorgeous, but in my opinion it's "not-quite-Tarot." But it may work for you!

Hope this helps --

I agree with Lee. The Mythic is much easier to use for readings, because it's based on the well-known RW symbols.

The Sacred Circle, while very interesting to look at, almost requires a whole new language with definitions.

They are both nice decks for different uses. If I could only have one, I would pick the Mythic. There is a workbook that I bought for the Mythic that is good, too. The majors are just outlines, so that you color them in yourself. It's a great way to learn and really focus on details.

Geez guys I don't know I really like the artwork on the Sacred Circle but your right the pips on the Mythic are better. But I was one of those who started with pips like on the Toth deck so I guess it never really threw me off. I started backwards with tarot lol. No Rider Waite like decks. The Gill was my first and the pips on those especially 1 thru 10 are not Waite look alikes at all then I bought the Toth deck and the pips are not Wait look alikes either on that deck. LOL! I am still confused as to which deck both are nice. Oh well i will have to make up my mind. Thanks for the feedback. :confused

I can understand why you like the art of the Sacred Circle a lot, but I think the Mythic is not only easy to read with (it was this deck that finally started me on unlearning my Minors Stupidity) but unusually rich in symbolism for being such a clear deck, while still not sticking so close to the RWS as to be boring in the least. Of course, I'm biased - Persephone as the High Priestess just is so perfect to me...

I got both in my collection and I like each for its own style and background.

I just did a huge search and seek information on the Sacred deck and I have owned the Mythic since 98, my personal opinion is stick with the Mythic for now. When you have the extra get the other one.

I do plan to purchase the Sacred not for readings though due to their changed numerials and other info that came up in my search. Just want them because they are absolutly Breath taking Beautiful.

Maybe I will read from them a few down the road, when I have a solid grasp in my understanding of Tarot reading. For now just gona gaze at their beauty:)

just my 02, good luck.

Hi,

I read with the Sacred Circle. But I bout it over a year after I had been reading and studying. THe book is a wonderful learning tool and the images are right up my alley..bold and beautiful..with every reading a different image on the card stands out..its amazing..

The Mythic is more traditional and it seems to be the favored one here. (there is a new thread out about quality you may want to read http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3564 )

SO..here's my off the wall suggestion...

write the name of both decks on a paper. Use a pendulum to see which one stays and which one goes on the wish list. THEN..Try to raise a few pennies and buy the other one so you have both..When I'm desperate for a deck I do the ebay thing - my bags, pendulums, even books I no longer want.

If it helps, I found the Sacred Circle for $23 plus shipping (US)..

Good luck, as a Taroholic I know your pain..lol

I had the Sacred Circle for Christmas, it was a last minute order. It is very pretty, the Minors are pips but with added plants and symbols. The re-naming of the cards might take a little getting used to but after looking through it a few times most are easy to remember. I don't usually like photo decks but after seeing this one online I knew it was for me. I've not had as much time as I would like these last couple of days to really explore it or the book but it is a very interesting and unusual deck, one I'm really looking forward to spending time with. :)

This is an old post but I will let you all know since everyone had such good input on both decks. I ended up buying the Sacred Circle and I am in the process probably tomorrow of picking up the Mythic since I got a gift card at Barnes. So I will have the added bonus at this time to own both! I love the Sacred Circle it really is an interesting deck and so right on at times depending on who or what I am reading for. I love the book that comes with it also. Thanks everyone for your input.
