So, I've just gotten this deck, which used to be called the Renaissance Tarot, and was renamed to something less confusing... not! (I second Geenius' call for a Deck Naming Seminar for these artists...) As someone mentioned here awhile back (I think) it's published by Simon and Schuster, of all things. The set is $25 and includes a full-sized book, which makes for an unusually good deal, and it's really very beautiful. It turns out to be a potentially good deck for beginners; the cards use a lot of easily identifiable symbolism, which is explained piece by piece in the book. Also, the colors in the minors are elementally sensible. A yummy deck to use or just to hoard.

I bought this deck back when it was still the Renaissance Tarot. This is a wonderful deck, and it IS great for a beginner.

Qolus, I am hording this deck *LOL*. What I love about it is that it is really different from all of my other decks. I love the 3-D effect. It is simple yet elegant. And you are right, I thought it was a great deal too. If you have a Hastings store close to you you can get it for $23.00.

i read a review online that said the cardstock used in this deck was flimsy... what do you guys think?
i've loved the images i've seen of this deck, and it was a close call between it and my beloved ukiyoe. someday when i'm feeling rich again, i may need to have both. :)

Actually the cardstock is flexible, but not flimsy. It is not as stiff as the cardstock on the RWS, it can withstand some slight bending.

I like the cardstock, it's a happy medium... It doesn't have that stickiness that some thinner stock has, that makes it impossible to shuffle thoroughly. And incidentally, the cards are a perfect size, just slightly taller and wider than standard playing cards. And the backs are reversible -- most of the decks I've acquired lately have for some reason not had that, grrrr...
