Merry meet.
OK, you ones who got this interesting deck, tell me all about it! How do you like/dislike the style of the cards, how does it do for readings, have you any special experiences with the deck and so on... :)
(Kiama, are you the first one out?? ;) )

first of all - i don't have it!
but i just wanted to add that no other deck have ever been added/removed so many times from my wishlist.
i just don't know if i want it.
i have seen a few cards i just adore! and then there are those "bimbos" that makes me go eww, no thanks.
and then i see another image and want it again... and so on and on and on...

jema, I know the feeling! I just hope I won't find any that really puts me off. I have one oracle deck that has some cards that I dislike to the extent that I can't use the deck anymore. :( It's the Angel Oracle Deck of Doreen Virtue. It's a shame, since some of the other cards are so beautiful and stunning!

Ah, one of my faves! This one has a special place in my heart... The artwork is lovely: So realistic, beautiful... So detailed! The meanings are womven into the cards in a wonderful way: Sometimes, you find words sctaeerd on the cards themselesv, as if the artist had written notes on them.. But in an unobtrusive way... Sometimes, there are the original Rider Waite versions of teh cards on the cards...
The major strength of this deck is its Court Cards. Yuo can really read them: Their expressions are so expresseive and they're hjust great.
A stunning and very readable deck, even though it is quite large.

But I was not on time... :(

I love the Rohrig. Yes, I'm not thrilled with the disembodied breasts floating around, and sometimes I depart from the keywords on the cards for the more traditional meanings (like the 7 of Pentacles), but overall, I think this is a stylish, imaginative, incredible deck. Especially nice for intuitive readers! I love the notes on the Major Arcana -- this deck has been a major factor in my learning the tarot my heart and not always reading with the book in my hand.

I had the same push and pull with the Rhorig, but as a good taro-holic finally succumed to temptation :D I am really glad I bought it. Although I have not "worked" with it, I do periodically pull it out and look through it, and I know that I will eventually work with it.
Aeonx, yes the Rhorig is Thoth based.

Is it a 'difficult' deck to understand at first? I haven't been using my Thoth, 'cause I think it deserves some studying first. Do you think I'll feel the same about the Rohrig? Are there lots of symbols on the cards?

There is a companion book to the deck, and Liliana uses it extensively. Also Kiama was quite positive about it, if I am not wrong...
You migth think about getting the Set. Well, hold on...

Rohrig turned out to be MY deck.Wasnt planned, but I think I know why
Im an 11personality,Justice, I like balance. This is very much a full brain deck. Art speaks to the right side, words to the left, this has both but not in an ugly way like key words. The art and words flow together into this beautiful whole, its hard to describe. I just wish it was all in English
Oh,and that bluestar didnt force him to put pants on 3 cards (actually I like one better with pants, but the hanged man should be naked the booksays so)
Sadly I ruined my copy(spilled perfume on it) Pollux says use it anyway but I cant, it feels dead now to me. So I thoughtupa "special project" to get money for a new copy.
But this deck speaks to me,even when im not using it. It even tells me to buy more decks lol (I Am One,and i think it wants me to get Ananda too)
And I for some reason like the sluts lol, especially Princess of wands. In Tarot for Yourself Mary Greer states a meaning as catch the tiger by the tail, and here is the tiger. Its amazing.
But Iike the minors best, they easily display positive and negative at once. Like the 3 of disks is labled work and shows a man lifting a heavy rock. Is lifting this rock an acomplishent, or is iits weight being a burden on him?
Did I say I LOVE this deck lol

I found it very easy indeed Unlike the Thoth, this deck has illustrated Minors. It also is very expressive...

this rohrig deck is a deck of artistical beauty, but there are some cards that are such a put off.....
i especially don't like the fool, the chariot and the star. maybe there are others as well, but i can't find a place to see all cards. but i must say that the others cards i have seen are gorgeous, so i still don't know if i want this deck. i would like to flip through it before i decide on it.
in the hierophant card, i think is carl rohrig himself, it has the moustache and the right color hair.

As with Jewel, this deck turend out to be MY deck. It just called to me in a way that no other deck has before. I don't use it a lot, but when I do, it is extremely easy to use. It is thoth based, but I find it a lot easier to use than the thoth. I don't have the book, but I will be getting it soon.

I believe in using different decks for different situations. I use the Rider-Waite the most, because its what people expect.
I've had the Rohrig for a while, and I usually reserve it for readings involving people with strong personalities, and for those who need expressive readings.
Its not a deck for the general public, but it does indeed have a place. If nothing else, get this deck for the above average art work.

Where have you been, Gary? I hope you didn't soend your time on other boards...*lol*
Finally one of our most precious experts has come back!
I did notice you were not posting as much as you did, well you were not posting at all! *lol*
I agree with your idea. I also think that there's a passionate feeling about the Rohrig. Joya gave a reading for me with it, and she explained the pictures of some of the cards. She explained her choice of the Rohrig EXACTLY on account of those strong and expressive artworks. I have seen some cards around and I must definitely agree!
There's this... not really "lust", but a sort of urge, something quite similar to desire, a surge similar to the unconscious urges of our lives. A good deck for Relationships and that kind of questons.:)
Mh... Interesting. Now that I have a deck (Liliana I love you so much! :*) I might ponder this better...

I am not sure what HR is ... sorry ... no, it is not so bad (I was being overly dramatic), it is a little shorter than my large Thoth deck, but it is big. Aeonx, the size works with the art, honestly. If the pictures were smaller they would loose a lot ... for one you could not read any of the writing or see the small drawings of original RW cards on some of them. Do not let it bug you too much.

If they are a bit smaller than the big Thoth, it may not be that bad. I've used the Thoth, and the only really annoying thing is to find a table big enough for the spreads! :P I think I'll cope. I'm looking really forward to studying this deck, going through it card by card and seeing the artwork up close. :)

Liliana - you will be proud of me ;)
I GOT THE ROHRIG!!!
I got a call at work (at the worst possible time) from the bookshop guy and he said it was in. I nearly did a little skip around the room but restrained myself... :P First impressions: WOW!!! Just read this thread. Very interesting.
Everybody must remember their first!!! That tentative walk into a shop, the soft music, the smell of incence, the large album of collective sample cards to look through in at your own pace and digest ...
That was how it was for me. I glanced at each page and the cards from each deck. At that point, I had seen hardly any decks. Obviously, I am familiar with most now. As I got half way through the sample album, something hit me. It wasn't only the largeness and superior art work that grabbed me (even though, in comparison to the other decks, those atributes were a factor). It was the face of The Devil that struck me. To this day, I have never seen a Devil card so intense. I may be forgetting a few, but to this day, I don't think I have ever seen a card as intense as that, generally. His eyes stare right into you ... it is hard to differenciate what is comfortable and what is uncomfortable about the experience. I turned the page to look at the next deck ... and then the next. Then, I skipped a few pages back to make eye contact with the Rohrig Devil. Next to him sat The Princess of Swords and The Knight of Wands - both also engaging. I worked on through the catalogue - seeing what I now regognise as Tarot of the Witches cards, the Londa deck and The Sacred Circle, to name a few.
My friend, whom I was with, purchased the Medievil Scapini. It suited his personality perfectly (even though he no longer uses the cards, I think). I, on the other hand, could not shake this vision of Rohrigs Devil, and pulled all the cash from my pocket and thrust it at the shop assistant.
A little later, I unravelled the deck. The Devil was there, engaging me. The Prince of Wands allowed me to pretty much jump into his world. However, the disembodied breasts and swim-suit clad women (Interferance, as an example) has pretty much destroyed this deck for me. I find that they just get in the way. I am no prude - far from it. I just find the depictions to be a little tasteless and for me, ruin the general atmosphere. Can anybody here, whom knows this deck well, pass on any advice as to how this can be overcome, short of removing the images I find offensive?
I was also a little shocked or surprised, even though I have always liked him, to see James Dean turn up as The Hermit. As a teenager, I collected a lot of images of him and instantly recognised the 'Rebel Without a Cause' stance/photograph.
I am learning with the Rider Waite now. I have flirted with many decks inbetween the Rohrig and The Waite decks and am happy with what I am learning through this absolutely wonderful art form. Despite what I have said and my own reservations regarding a very small handful of cards, I would recommend the Rohrig. The art work really is 'art' and is constantly dripping in symbolism, taken from a wealth of cultures, emotion and knowledge. I am staying at my parents for the Summer. I have my Waite decks here - also the Fantastical and my Cosmic tribe. My Rohrig sits in a large wooden box in my London house. After reading this thread, like an old friend I havn't seen in ages or a first lover, I am missing its strength. When I return to London to pick up some stuff that I need for the rest of the Summer, I will pop that wooden box in my suitcase as well.
I apologise for this long-winded post. I think I have learnt a lot from writing it and hope I have passed on some of my knowledge of the deck as well.
I am VERY surprised that nobody has started a study group for this deck on this site. Should one arise, I would like to be one of the first to contribute. I would love to learn more from the deck and also lay to rest some of the negative feelings I have had for those four or so cards.
Best wishes to you all

Hi Yaboot,
I bought the Rohrig, after viewing around 3 cards online (it was the quickest I've ever bought a deck) - it should have been everything I hate about a deck - it very large, larger than the Victoria Regina, its a collage deck, looks like photo's and has nudity. I loved this deck from the moment I took it from its box, the card stock is very good quality and it shuffles well, I changed my method of shuffling for this deck lol - It does remind me of a mix of Rider Waite and Thoth - both decks which I use and study.
The nudity had never bothered me, it looks right on the cards, but I still stay away from other decks with lots of nudity on them. I've posted before that I don't think its an outright sexual deck but it is sensual, mostly the majors.
This deck does read well but for the moment its been put back on the shelf until I can devote the time it needs to really understand the cards. I'm immersed in the Thoth at the moment but the Rohrig will always be very special to me :)
