9 decks in one week, 2 being OOP/Satirical Decks

Fellow Tarotholics, I have stooped to a new low...

I purchase 9 new decks in the space of only 7 days, and 2 of them were OOP... It all started when Rhiannon informd me that the Norse Tarot by Clive Barrett was OOP, and, being a Tarotholic, I just had to have that deck... Just cuz it's OOP. I also remembered seeing the PoMo in a small bookshop about 5 months ago, but I didn't now it was OOP then... Anyway, I knew a place which had been trying to sell the Norse Tarot for monhs, so, I made a special trip there and bought that deck, and then found that the PoMo was still in that same shop! So, I bought it, and quite accidentally of course, some more decks found their way into my sticky little hands... The shopkeeper was very nice, and even gave me a bulk discount! })

The PoMo is a treasure of a deck (But of course this is to be expected from Brian Williams!). It is inherently humourous and satrirical.. Something I find highly non-existent inmost Tarot decks.

On this note, I thought it would be quite inetresting if we had a thread about satirical decks.. I'm not aware of that many, but I would be grateful to anybody if they could post about any they know of, perhaps including a link to some pictures!

Kiama, you should change your title to "Queen of Tarot-holics". Noone here compare to you!! :D ;)

VGimlet  18 Aug 2002
The Tarot of Baseball which is the more cartoony of the two baseball tarots, seems to have a bit of a satirical bent to me. :)

9 decks in 7 days! :D Now I don't feel so bad about my recent buying spree. I bought 5 last week, and am feeling slightly guilty, so I'm cleaning the house by myself today as penance.

Pollux  18 Aug 2002
Queen though you are, we still *ONLY* know of 2 decks. The other seven?

Starfish  18 Aug 2002
All hail our Tarotholic Queen!

I'm not worthy.... (But I sure am envious }))

midnightmerry  18 Aug 2002
gosh, I consider myself in good company. I've been on something of buying spree myself lately. Nice to know I'm not the only one 'afflicted'! :)

Maan  18 Aug 2002
I' so glad someone is worse than i ;)

BTW i think my recent purchase the Phantasmagoric is quite satirical!!

Enjoy your new decks...what where the other deck you bought?

If I get some more scanned myself, I'll post links to those deck samples as well.

Woohoo! More decks to add into your collection, Jewel. The Stained Glass is absolutely wonderful and I am so glad I added it! It's working out wonderfully and giving great readings!

Wow, I`m speechless and impressed. I think that my husband would have a heart attack if I bought 9 decks in 7 days.

So I am not the only Tarotholic out there! In July, I added 26 decks to my collection, and so far this month, I've added twenty.
Hurray for dispoable income.

Wow, looks like Kiama has found her equal!! :D
You're definitely not the only Tarotholic here, but by the sounds of it you're beyond recovery... :D ;) Not that anyone here ever wants to recover from this addiction... ;)

AGREED! if i ever was a contender for the title i relinquish and bow to the new tarot queen. LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!!!

p.s. in the future, when you go on wild tarot sprees, it's now kiama's fault and not mine!! LOL i don't think i've bought a deck in a month. trades don't count! ;)

Kiama  20 Aug 2002
Well, considering that as of Septmeber, I will be budgeting and no longer able to buy as may decks asI would like, I have a good excuse.

The decks I bought that week are...

Voyager
PoMo
Spiritual
Wang Golden Dawn
Light and Shadow
Norse
Northern Shadows
Ansata
Royal.

Considering I have only been colecing a bit less than a year, and I've only just turned 18, I reckon I'm a pretty good collector! (My collection now contains over 80 decks)

Jeannette: Thanks for those links... I'll have to try and get some of those decks. I think my collection is lacking in humourous ones.

Jewel  20 Aug 2002
Hey Kiama, I have been curious about the Northern Shadows. Could you tell me what you think of it?

Hey Truthsayer! When was it that you bought the Margaret Petersen? has it already been a month? I just ordered it and the Stained Glass by Scapini yesterday. I intend to tempt you with the Stained Glass as it is YOUR responsibility that I have ended up with the Petersen ~giggle/snicker/snort~. As they say ... what comes around goes around ~chuckle~

It is.... Weird, difficult.. According to the blur on the bck of the deck, Sylvia Gainsford created the deck using storie from the Mabinogion and the Norse myths. Whilst I can easily identify the Norse myths, I cannot see any links with the Welsh stories of the Mabinogion. The Majors though are sill very easy to read despite this, and th symbolism is very good.

The Minors are not so good, and remind me of the Minors of the Tarot of the Old Path. This is just my opinion of the actual artwork though. But nevertheless, the Minor are less symbolic, and not as easy to get along with.

Overall, this is a so-so deck. I'm not against it, nor for it..

I think this is the same problem I have with all Gainsford decks. I have both the Old Path and the Northern Shadows in my collection but I do not use them just because of the so-so effect.

Jewel  20 Aug 2002
Thanks Kiama! Now another question for you, if one liked the Tarot of the Old Path and could use it, do you think they would like the Norse Tarot? For many years I used both Robin Wood and the Tarot of the Old Path as primary decks and still love both decks. Are the majors in the Norse Tarot anywhere as good as those of Tarot of the Old Path?

Kiama  20 Aug 2002
Jewel: D you meanNorse Tarot by Clive Barrett or Tarot of the Northrn Shadows by Sylvia Gainsford? If its Northern Shadows you're referring to, which I think you are, then you could probably use this one pretty well, if you're into the Old Path. The Majors I would say are just as good as the Old Path ones, but on a different theme.

LOL ;)

*ROFLMAO* I am getting all my decks twisted (that is because I have been pondering the Clive Barrett deck again and think I can find it locally) ... but I was meaning the Norhtern Shadows so you answered my question. Thank you for interpreting my giborish *LOL*.

Yeah ... whatever *ROFLMAO* ... I may have free will but I am weak and you know it *LOL*. So are you done being good yet? ;)

truthsayer  20 Aug 2002
yeah, i wave the white flag. i ordered the etruscan last night. i'll probably order the stained glass later this week. i trying to decide on the tarot classic and olympus, too. i don't really like lo scarabeo decks except for silvana alysia's so that's got me on the fence about the olympus. i don't like marseilles decks in general but i did like what i saw of the tarot classic.

i have to watch my money right now b/c i started back to school in graphic design. this is very improtant b/c i want to learn how to do all those neat things w/ photoshop and illustrator so i can create my own computer style deck. this is a true paradox why i want to do a computer collage deck b/c i haven't liked very many i've seen. however, i am a creature of paradox so that hasn't stopped me yet! LOL

*LOL* I would expect you to say something like that! Well this will be your chance to create a computer collage deck that you DO like :) ... If you have not yet ordered the stained glass I hope to have some news for you on it by tomorrow ... I think it is waiting for me at home right this minute ...
