Hi everyone,
I just wanted to have a moan. I have been thinking of getting the Tarot of the Ancient Path for a long time and have finally gone ahead and ordered it from Amazon. But to my great disappointment the deck is not what I expected. Well, the deck is, it's lovely, but the edition is really crap. The cards are not very clean, i.e. there are some dots and smudges where there shouldn't be any and the backs are really disappointing: aquamarine leaves on white background and - that's really the last straw - the publisher's name is on the back of each card so that it is quite clear whether a card is reversed or not before it has been turned. I find that really disturbing. Do all Ancient Path decks come like this or am I unlucky?

do you mean Ancestral Path? I think the cards are supposed to look "aged". I've not noticed anything in particular except for the borders seem smudgy... but I think that's done on purpose. I really like the deck. Especially what the book has to say about the Chariot. Cleared up alot about that card for me!

What a shame, it`s awful when you`ve been really looking forward to getting your hands on a deck and then find that you`re disappointed. It does sound as if you may have a dodgy deck. If it is the Ancestral Path tarot the images at Wicce`s site and Tarot Passages look very impressive. The publishers name on the back of each card certainly does sound fairly crap.

I think Soraya is talk about Tarot of the Old Path.
I own this deck and love it. I don't have smudges or ink dots on mine - it may be printing errors and you may need to exchange it for another copy of the same deck. The name of the publisher IS on the back, but I don't have a problem with the backs of decks (some of my favorite decks don't have reversible backs at all).
I'm sorry to hear that you're unhappy with it :( Maybe you can take it back to the place you purchased it from (or if it was online, whatever their policies are) and get them to replace it.

OKies by the sound of aquamarine leaves I am going to guess Tarot of the Old Path. I would suggest contacting the publisher. My experience, and the experience of others here on the forum, have been very positive with publishers replacing damaged decks. You can of course first try the store, but if they do not accomodate you then I hope the publisher will. Best of luck! I have the Tarot of the Old Path and I really enjoy working with it.

What a bummer! But I think all is not lost. As I remember Amazon has a pretty good policy of accepting merchandise back if a customer is disappointed in it. Information is probably on their web site.

I think it is Tarot of the Old Path, too. I'm sorry you've had a negative introduction to the cards. I would definitely try to get a replacement.
This deck always seems to provoke the strongest reactions! Either people love it and think it's great or they really hate it.
I have it and I'm on the 'love it' side of the issue; I like the artwork and the colors used. The back doesn't bother me at all and I like the clean look of the deck. However, I've read others here at AT that hate all the white on the cards and they don't like the look of the people.

Yes, I believe some find te people looking grumpy. I think the people are represented like that to give the impression of medieval paintings and it does not bother me. I like this deck, especially the majors really "speak to me" but I must say I don't use it much. Too many other decks, you understand...

Actually ~chuckles~ I believe the Thoth and the Cosmic Tribe should get the credit for that statement. But you are right, Tarot of the Old Path usually is one people like or do not like ... not much inbetween.

Hi everyone,
sorry for causing confusion. Yes, I did mean the Tarot of the Old Path. (I got it in German, you see, and mixed up the English name for it. For those interested, the German name is Tarot der Weisen Frauen.)
Anyway, thanks for your sympathy. I don't think I can get it exchanged, because it's simply a crap edition (with the publisher's name on the back and all) and I'm going to have to live with it. I do like the artwork and hope I'll get over my rage for the poor quality of the print and paper.
cheers
Soraya

Soraya if you really do not like the deck you can always put it up for trade here at Aeclectic in the trading forums. Just an idea ....
