Tarot des Templiers

Pl do not confound this deck with the Templar tarot, they are both very different in style I think. You can see a few scans of mine at www.playingcardsales.com

What I found particularly interesting about this Tarot des Templiers is that the HP/La Papesse card depicts Pope Joan giving birth to the child she was to have as legend tells. You can see a dashing woman in blue popal robes and tiara with a tiny blonde head sticking out of the folds of her robe at her lower belly.

Anyone else having this deck?

Trogon  25 Sep 2002
Catlin;

I couldn't find this tarot listed at the web site you provided... :( It sounds rather intrigueing though...

Hi Trogon,

I ordered this one via the former Somerville homepage. I think there is still a link to get there, otherwise try the French tarot deck section. There is only one deck named "Tarot des Templiers" listed there.

i tried it, too unsuccessfully. i was careful to spell it the way you did just in case spelling is important.

Try to type in Willy Vassaux, this is the name of the deck creator.
Maybe this works.

Pollux  26 Sep 2002
Catlin I could not find it either.
I saw in the Home page and searched for the name of the Author and the name of the Deck.
I also made a search in Tarot without keyword, and in the entire list I could not find it... :(

Searched the Web, and got the following...

- Review by Mark Filipas

- Review by Wicce

- Pics from Wicce

- Listing on Amazon.fr

Hi Pollux,

Thanks for providing us with the links. Don't know why I did not think of wicce and tarot passages, I am a bit beside myself today.

Hey, Pollux, thanks so much for the links! And thanks, catlin, for posting about this deck. Looks like a great deck.

I found it interesting that each of the Majors 1-10 are labeled with the corresponding numerical sphere from the Tree of Life, rather than as a path between two spheres as in the Golden Dawn scheme.

Lee there was an interesting discussion about Majors being assigned to sephira on the Tree of Life vs. to the paths. You might want to chceck it out. I would give you the link to the thread but I am a bit technically challenged and have not figured out how to do that yet *LOL*. I know it was one of the first threads of the Qabalah study group in the General forum of study groups.

only adding to the list of questions about the Templars.
Recent theories seem to link ancient Egyptian monotheïsm (Echnaton) to the Judaïc religion, and the idea of Jesus as a descendant of Davidic kings ... without divinity !
The Templars are thought to have discovered and used secrets found underneath the second Temple of JHWH (the one built by Herodes), which led them to believe that JOhn the Baptist was the true divine prophet (of whom ?).
Their worship of the Baptist branded them as heretics in the eyes of the inquisition - with a little help from King Philippe ... but I don't see what the obviously strong Qabalistic accent in the major arcana here, has to do with the Templars ??
