I just saw the art work of the Templar Tarot and I HAVE to get that deck! Does anyone here have it------or maybe you had it and traded it-------and what did you think of it? I've read a couple of scathing reviews of it on a couple of tarot sites, so I guess you either love it or hate it. Can anyone tell me why people would dislike it so much? I'm not into skulls and skeletons myself, but the art work is so wonderful I can get past that. Plus, I think I could read with it well.
I look forward to seeing posts on this.

I saw the scans of this deck online and it really looked like a deck that I would like to have. Also, I really liked the fact that there were no borders. I love decks where the artwork goes all the way to the edge. However, I looked at a copy of the deck several times in a store and I just couldn't buy it. I was actually sort of repelled by it. Needless to say, this surprised me greatly since it seemed like a deck that I should have loved. Eh, well...
But I do know that there are others on this board who have had great experiences with this deck. So if it calls to you, by all means get it.

Thank you for your reply. I just did a search on the Knights Templar and maybe now I know why it repels some people. There's some necrophilia in the legend, which explains the skull motif. I'm not excited about that legend-----gross! But I still love the deck and the art work and I think it would be very interesting to read with. I love art that goes clear to the edge of the cards, too, which Buckland Romani has, and I really connected with that deck.
It's an odd thing, but the ones that I can't connect with are the traditional ones. It must be something out of my early years that has a subconscious connection, but I actually feel queasy in my stomach and very turned off by the traditional decks, like Rider Waite and those. I don't know why that is and I wish it wasn't so, but I never get past that reaction for some reason, try as I might.

Teal: I have this deck, as do a number of folks on Aeclectic. I also love it!! I notice that the deck elicits some strong feelings--folks either love it or hate it. If you are drawn to the deck, do get it. It is an intense deck, not for everyone.
I had the pleasure of meeting with the creator of the deck, Allen Chester, & his publisher, Cathy Washburn. Allen does not mind the reactions. He would rather people reacted than not.
I think some are turned off by the presence of the skulls & the skeletal figures, but there is a reason for them & they need to be seen in the context of the particular card. Every image on each card was placed on it for a reason. If you have not already, do check the Aeclectic reviews of the deck here:

Thank you for your response, MeeWah. I appreciate the input. I'm going to get this deck one way or another. LOL I may have to order from somewhere online, but I definitely WILL own this deck! I'm getting so I can be more discerning about what decks I can connect with and read with before I buy-----sadly, I should have learned that many decks ago-----and I know this one will be very rewarding to own. I'm not surprised the readings you get with it are intense, because it just looks like that kind of deck.

Thank you Liliana! I bookmarked the site so now I'm off to look at all the cards! How exciting! Sometimes it's very difficult to see the major part of a deck online and requires quite extensive searching on the internet, as you know. I appreciate this link!
