Ohhh I want this deck!!
Thanks Solandia!

Trish  17 Dec 2002
Yeah! That is a lovely deck! :D

I want it too! *waa!* hehehe!

OH what a cutie! I want one too!
Thanks for the addition, Solandia! I am going to read the review as soon as I see it loaded! :D

Just got my Italo Calvino Invisible Cities book and a used copy of a Marco Polo's travels translation--many thought he made up most of the tales.

I'm looking forward to seeing the reviews.

I did a sample reading once, but mostly use this for myself now. Anyone who uses this with any other Eastern or Western style oracles, I'm curious if you mix your readings.

I just got this deck a few days ago from tarotgarden. What a lovely deck! Looks good to read but I am still playing with it.

I've seen this deck before, it is gorgeous, but to me it looks like it would be hard to read. I'm very drawn to oriental culture in a lot of ways, but this deck, although it's gorgeous, isn't for me.

I have now read with it. I thought it was a good reading deck. In fact, my first reading gave me some very useul insights into the issue.

Cerulean  02 Jan 2003
This one and the Fey are easier for me to read.
What are your reading thoughts/insights?

May I tell the truth?
I don't like this deck. It's just that the art style makes my spine creep. :)

It was built to be a very easy and very intuitive deck. And I like very much the "east meet west" concept in the Majors. But I fear that easyness to work with the deck will later be paid with superficiality.
Sigh, and I'm credited as one of the authors... :(

---

I know from many experiences that my personal artistic taste for Tarot is very very personal. Yet I think we - as a Tarot community - are a bit too good with what the market give us. Only if we pretend quality from Publishers we will force Publishers to invest in quality: Art, Concepts, Books... whatever.

I have been struggling a bit with this deck. I must admit that I was dissapointed in it. I also like the artwork, but it just feels a bit empty. I am trying to give it a chance prior to putting it up for trade, but so far it holds nothing for me. I guess I had higher expectations of it, although I cannot actually describe what I mean by this. This has been my general feeling over several decks I have aquired in the last couple of months ~sighs~. Thanks for your honesty Riccardo, perhaps it is those issues that you mentioned that I am perceiving.

Thanks for your input.
I've put more work into trying to use the Dante Tarot (see thread) and my Egyptian/Golden Dawn style decks recently, so I've not posted or explored this much.
I'm just puzzled, but once in awhile I think a moderate deck is going to fall shorter in comparison. Because of so many dazzling decks that were available in late 2002, including the Fey, Visconti Gold and Comparative.
Golden Tarot of the Tsar, Olympus, Etruscan, Neferteri seemed to eclipse the Children's Tarot of last year...
If the Tarot of the Journey of the Orient had been more dramatically painted to highlighting Marco Polo's Silk Road discoveries, that would have been easier for me. For instance, the use of charcoal, Marco Polo's storytelling abilities or the Golden Seal of Khan is noted in summaries of Marco Polo...but those ideas or scenes are not elicited easily in this tarot.
My opinion only. Probably I am influenced because the old woman as the Queen of Swords looks like a disappointed matriach stuck in robes...and I wanted someone that looked like a mature Asian Shield-Maiden of Rohan...(Lord of the Rings).
Best wishes,
Mari H.
