Its never been easy for me when it comes to buying a deck of tarot cards. I have to go to 3 or 4 shops & most of the time, they don't have what I want. I'm so glad that someone/s came up with this fantastic site. I like collecting celtic decks. So far I have three, Celtic Tarot, Celtic Dragon & one I recieved as a Christmas present in Ireland that has no name? Oh & I also have another that I don't use. Oh & there's the deck I burnt....every time I took the cards out of the box I was over come by negative energy & felt rather weird, so after many years of procastinating I finally burnt them & I feel so much better for it.
I've been questioned many times over the topic of "which cards do I choose?" My answer "which ever deck appeals to you, what ever grabs you & says BUY ME" but on one occasion I chose a deck of cards for a friend, as she was undecisive. I've always brought my own cards, but I've been told that one should not buy their deck but be given them?
Enjoy the tools we've been given!!

well, that's fine as an ideal. and, sometimes you can drop a hint in Santa's ear, but that takes some of the serendipity out of it. rarely do great tarot decks drop out of the sky.
in practice, it's kind of presumptuous to imagine that someone out there is going to present you with precisely the right deck.
and who's to say there's only one deck that might speak to you?
better to take a seek-and-ye-shall-find attitude, and keep an eye peeled to locate the next tarot that's just right for you.

Here's my theory: you buy a deck cos you like the cards and/or theme. If you get it and look thru it and you'd rather not, there's always ebay or half. Resell it. Low pressure. Also, make sure you buy cheap so you don't regret it. Buy.com, hamiltonbook.com, ecampus.com, they all have great tarot prices.

I think I read here before, that the superstition about being given your first deck, comes from when fortune-telling was forbidden. It could even be dangerous to own a deck, because you could be suspected of witch-craft.Therefor you needed someone to train you in reading the cards(no deck or book available in law-abiding book-stores),and that person also gave you your first deck.

I didn't know about ecampus.com, they've got 20 pages of tarot decks & books, and anywhere from a dollar to $12 off. The Robin Wood was $13. Good prices! About 60% of what was on the site were decks, 40% books. All the standards, too.
