LOL Mags!
Buckland Romani Tarot... I raved about this deck for quite a while, then I bought it, and found it interesting, but not as amazing as I thought it was going to be. I was a little disappointed, because some of the cards were quite shallow: They were just the usual Rider Waite images, in a Romany setting. Take the Star for instance: Nothing new or insightful there, just a Romany girl doing what the naked girl in most RWS decks usually does.
But some of the other cards on the other hand were very profound... Death for instance.
Sadly, when I tried reading with this deck, I didn't really 'get into it' as I usually do, possibly because I'm not so familiar with Romany culture, and so didn't fully understand some of the references in the cards.
I know there are people here who love this deck to pieces though!

i loved that description in the book.
the death card also shared the culture of burning the old king in the wagon .
which reminded me of the thirteen warrior when they burned the old king, his things and that woman. (who was alive)
it was the old way they said.
lo do i see the line of my people is how the death prayer goes,
i have to watch it again to remember it all.
about the old lady smoking, that true reminded me of the old grandmas of my culture who would mostly alwasy babysit and look after the young one while the adults were busy.
pan was the trickster if i recall laughing as he knocked over a cauldron it wasnt' such a bad depiction of the devil archetype.

Holmes: The prayer from the Thirteenth Warrior goes like this:
"Lo there do I see my father. Lo there do I see my mother and my sisters and my brothers. Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the beginning. Lo, they do call to me; they bid me take my place among them in the Halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live forever."
I love that prayer too.
The Hanged Man as the rabbit, I have to agree, is brilliant in the Buckland Romani deck... And the Devil certainly had a new take on the card.

I recently got the Buckland Romani and I am very pleased with it. The readings I have done with it have been useful, and I have actually found cross symbolism, etc in the cards. I haven't been able to do that well with any other deck. The images actually didn't seem as colorful as the scans once they were actually in my hands, but I don't mind since it's still quite bright. Overall, it's a very dynamic deck, and I think I'll use it quite often.
As for the book, I ask that he asks questions about the images in the cards rather than just saying "It means this." I think it opens up a lot of options.

the images i saw on screen reminded me of when i worked on a circus show (not performing BTW) - and i have always found the gypsy culture facinating. and it is British.

JUST TO LET YOU ALL KNOW>>> a prof reader - Belladonna - has started a new thread (in this forum) specifically about a certain card (Ace Swords) only in the Buckland. Any help there'd be welcomed.
