Hello Forum Members,
Those of you that collect rare or handmade Tarot Decks, which are the most highly sought after or rare?
Is there a reference book with price points for collectible decks--a sort of 'blue book' for Tarot collectors?
Sincerely,
Jason Kays

People here are always looking for these three:
Tarot for Cats
Servants of the Light
Greenwood
EXPENSIVE, every one of them, when they come up on ebay. They're just not available anymore!
Oh! And I almost forgot--Tarot of the Crone. That one is a very limited edition, handmade and I think sold out?

I have to second Hudson on the Greenwood Tarot.
I myself have been trying to hunt this one down on ebay. Tough lil sucker to catch I tell ya. *sigh*
I would also like to get my hands on a few Folchi decks.
*watches her bank account cringe talking of such things*

Maybe the Dali Universal Tarot and William Blake Tarot?

Well, the one I would really like to find is the Transformational by Arnell Ando. This doesn't seem to come up very often at all - I guess people keep it if they are fortunate enough to have one.

The Vertigo is always in demand, but way up there in price, however those prices have been coming down ever so slightly, so there's still hope!

the rock and roll tarot is hard to find and high in demand.

Also in high demand:
Stick figure tarot
Norse tarot
I really like the stick figure tarot, but the prices are just absurd IMO for just black and white simple pictures, no matter how cute...

I've seen the Greenwood go for over $150, the Tarot for cats (with the book) at about $50-$80, the Vertigo is always over $50, usually between $70-$140, and the Servants of the Light never goes for under $100.
Out of the 4, the Vertigo is the one most likely to be found on ebay.

Why are the Folchi decks so prized? Is it the caliber of artwork, quality of card stock, rarity, or all of the above?

I'd say it was the rareity and the artwork. I had a chance to pick up the Felicita when it first came out for $30, but didn't. Now, it can go for almost ten times that amount.

Oh my goodness! I'm after the Tarot for Cats at the moment, having got the Vertigo fairly cheaply (£65 - well worth it) and I'm now paranoid my bank manager will start stalking me to ask for his money back!

Hello,
I got both the Tarot for Cats and the first edition of the Vertigo for $35 each on ebay....it takes patience and perseverance but if you spend the time you can find them at these prices...also keep checking with the used book services, I've had luck with them also.

In re-reading this thread, I realized that no one has answered your question about a tarot price guide. There is none. Every other collectible I've heard of has one, but tarot doesn't. The general rule of thumb is - whatever the market will bear, and it seems that no matter what the price, someone is willing to pay it.

Delizt, I'm positively green with envy! Nah, actually I'm really happy for you, getting such brilliant bargains. There's a Tarot for Cats just come up on eBay but I have a strong feeling the price is going to LEAP! Oh well, wish me luck! xxx

I think there was a kind of Tarot Blue book online a few years ago - I heard about it but never was able to access the site.
Another Folchi deck admirer here. I agree, for me it is both the artwork and the rarity, plus his decks, especially the Felicita and the Carnival have a certain quality - they are somewhat light-hearted, but also insightful.

Tarot for Cats is hard to come by? I swear, they're in a little cabinet at Borders; they've been there for the longest time. Maybe I'm thinking of another deck...

Huh. I have a Tarot for Cats; got it for five dollars remaindered. It's very cute. I also hear that the Shakespeare Tarot I traded away is a rarity; that was another remainder.
Funny old thing, life.
