Ditto for the Golden Tarot, that was SUPPOSED to be out in October. Still isn't, and no word from US Games as to when it will be.

Dead Star, you have discovered one of the most eagerly anticipated Tarot decks of 2004, the Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti. If you truly have to have it, a limited edition is available from the artist. Here is a thread with a review and a link to Ciro Marchetti's website where you can purchase the limited edition.

Thank you, Le_Corsair. I can surely wait for it, if it's going to be out next year :) But I'll check out the limited edition anyway. Just for some reason I thought that deck had been around a few years. Has it been in progress for that long? It seems like I'd seen it before, or at least heard the name a lot...
I'm not paying that much for it :D I can wait. I love it though.

You could cheat and do screencaps of all the card images. Er, that would be bad though wouldn't it? I've 'printed' complete decks from places like Tarot.com and although the quality isn't the best, *depending on printer/image quality* you still have at least the deck (once you cut out the images and paste them to cue cards, :P) they just wouldn't have the back, unless you printed out about 78 of those too. ;) Don't know what I just suggested is illegal or not, but it'll tide you until you have the actual deck, heh. ^-^;;

Dead Star, I take your impatience as a compliment, thank you, My impression from my communications with Llewellyn suggest that they are quite serious about the October 2004 publication, especially as this will coincide with their Astrology 2005 calendar release, for which I've provided illustrations.
I've placed images of each card on my website as I've learned from these very forums that many members appreciate being able to review a deck fully before deciding to add it to their collection, or not. So I'd prefer to believe that people were'nt downloading the images to make dummy decks, or heaven forbid attempt to reproduce them for resale as happened I believe to Kat Black and her wonderful Golden Tarot. Any way that really seems a lot of work just to end up with a poor low resolution rendition.
Nevertheless if it helps pass the time untill next October, don't forget I'm offering computer desktop decorations of various Gilded Tarot themes, for free to anyone who requests them. Visit the posters and prints link of the Gilded Tarot section on my web site and choose. I'll also be finished with a Gilded Tarot screen saver within a couple of weeks that can be downloaded for free. Anyone who wishes to see a particular card in more detail, just contact me. Thank you all for your interest and encouragement. This really has been a captivating project, and input from forum members has been very much part of its creation.

Bye the way keep a look out for an upcoming competition that will be offered exclusivly to Aeclectic members. It will be an interactive puzzle that will hopefully test your familiarity with multiple Tarot decks, and hopefully prove to be challenging enough even for you Tarot gurus. Prizes will include Gilded Tarot posters for runner ups and a special edition deck for the winner.
Hopefully it will be ready just after Christmas.

Actually I have to admit that the model was very seductive. She was generally complimentiong me on the deck, was hinting that she found me extremely attractive and quite irresistable. The situation was definitely looking up as she came on stronger and stronger, she walked towards me with, yes you guessed it, the lovers card in her hand. What happened next ? I am excited beyond belief.
As a birthday present to myself I have the Gilded Tarot on order!!! My deck starts production this week. I have spent quite a bit of time on the Ciro's website, drooling over the images I will soon be able to look at up close and personal - and having read the review here, I know this will be a very exceptional deck. Of course, the first thing I will do is compare each card to the ones on the site and see where the difference is - already I'm hoping its the High Priestess - my soul card.
I have truly joined the ranks of deck junky.

Hi yve!
It sounds pretty definite that the Gilded Tarot is being published by Llewellyn and due for release in October...but as we all know, the release dates are not "set in stone" and delays in publication are not uncommon. Like you, I am very anxious to get my hands on these cards, but for now, all we can do is wait.....unless of course you are one of the fortunate few who have purchased the limited edition version....have you visited the website???

At first thought, I am thinking of The Lovers... it is an amazing looking card... and there is something damn sexy about it too! Haha! I also like the way that those sparkly little stars are falling... almost looks like gold-dust.
The Devil is also a stunning card: dark, sensual, and alluring.

I love this card too, Centaur!
There are so many, it is hard to focus on only a few...
Of the Majors, two of my favorites are Temperance and Judgement. In Temperance, I love the splashes of light around her, and the colors in the background...the light breaking through the clouds. The Judgement card is incredible...I love the expression on her face...serenity....the detail in her golden-winged helmet and the starry skies behind her.
I am also very fond of the Knights in this deck...each has its own unique combination of colors, and when you look at all four of them together, the effect is just stunning! I especially love the different colors used for the skies in these cards...the Knight of Wands is one of my favorites in terms of color. He is dressed in red and gold, standing under a perfectly purple-hued, sunset sky.....it just takes you away!

I love the High Priestess in this deck, for some reason! She's styill mysterious (wearing a mask) but unlike most of the RWS type of decks, she's not portrayed king-like (and Emperor-like, and Hierophant-like, etc.), regal, remote and guarded. I guess I find her far more accessible and cheerful. She floats above the waters, rather than sort of blocking the way to them, and her back is arched, echoing the shape of the crescent moon behind her in the sky! Just beautiful!

I have to agree about the High Priestess - being my soul card I was drawn to it immediately and can not think of any deck that has one more beautiful than this.
The Six of Swords is another particular favorite of mine (but it also has a bit of a story behind it in my deck)
For those who have not been fortunate enough to see the deck up close and personal - it is even more gorgeous, more detailed, richer colors in person than on the website. As soon as the regular version comes out, I plan to get it more as a supplement to the original than anything else - OK, I'm greedy for this deck! The only thing I have missed is the book, but since that seems to be coming with the deck I'll be content to wait until then.
One thing I have been wondering, though, is - On how many of the cards did Ciro use himself as the model?

I'd like to say I was the model for the Devil....but then my family would burst out laughing.
Actually I am in several (albeit quite modified from one to another), i.e. I'm a dolphin in one and a deer in another:-), so is the rest of the family, my son (two of pentacles plus others), my daughter (Judgement plus others), my wife (Temperance, Lovers plus others), my assistant (Strength, plus others), even my ex-wife, actually I was going to use her for an original version of the Devil (just kidding), now she's the Empress.

You might not!
I haven't used anything else since I got my Guilded and my Golden...
Between those two I think I have found my two favorite decks.
My Robin Wood is quite miffed.....
My only problem is which one to use for my daily spread.
They decided to take turns.
Guilded's turn today.

No, I'm afraid he doesn't.
Actually she'll kill me for writing this, but she's also the model for the Star. But she insisted on censership rights (and some modesty retouching) on that one.

The gods were certainly smiling down on her the day she was born.... :)
The woman on the Queen of Wands (I think she is also on the 7 and 9 of Pentacles) looks like a young Elizabeth Taylor.
Especially on the Queen card. The way the light from the flame is illuminating her face.
It's just beautiful.

Regarding the Devil, I'm not sure if he's attached to anyone in particular at the moment, but I do know that he popular because he always seems to be surrounded by number of "flames" who have a burning desire for him, so he's obviously a hottie. Lucky liitle devil.

Sorry if this is old news. Go ahead..., you have my permission to berate the messenger..., if that should be the case.

Hi Lunakasha,
I rather took it for a given that Ciro was his own model for the Magician - it struck me the first time I looked at the card - never occurred to me to think otherwise.
I did love finding out the identifies (so to speak) of some of the other models - seems to add a nice touch to the whole deck.

Well this was really hard trying to figure out which are my favourite cards in this wonderful deck.
Have narrowed it down to a few - Majors - the High Priestess, the Star and Justice. Then out of the Minors - 2 of Swords and 8 of Swords - which are not usually my favourite cards in any deck but love the artwork, particularly on the 8 of Swords and the fact that the swords are not stuck in the ground like in many other decks. Makes me really relate to the concept of them being not physically trapping, but more intellectually or thought wise creating a barrier of some sort.
I can hardly wait until October - but thinking it will be just in time for a nice Tarot Christmas present then :)

Hi Lunakasha
Unfortunately I will probably have to wait until Christmas as Halloween is not really celebrated here in Australia - has only started to catch on a little bit with kids the last few years.
It was however very good timing that I was sitting at the computer yesterday looking with the Gilded Tarot web site and my husband wandered past and showed some interest - so I took the opportunity to drop a Christmas hint or three - nothing like planning ahead :D
The other thing I really like about this deck is the backs! To me the backs often make or break the choice to get a new deck, which I know sounds a bit odd, but I have only ever bought one deck that I liked that had a back that I didn't like (the colour), but love the beautiful image on the back of the Gilded!

I couldn't agree more, CreativeFire!
The backs of the Gilded cards are sooooooo beautiful!!! :D
They look almost three-dimensional....love the sun in the center, and all of the lovely jewels...it is so rich-looking, almost like something you might find in an old trunk in your grandmother's attic....antique in a way, yet fresh and "alive" at the same time!
I might have to go out on a limb here.....
And admit that this is THE most beautiful card-back I have seen so far! Of course, I haven't seen ALL of the card-backs that exist (yet) but.....for me, these would be very tough to beat!

BUMP!
Hey Guys - I'm so excited & just have to tell all the Gilded fans how wonderful it is to receive the package with the special edition in the mail.
The colours are so luminous & the detail so much greater than on Ciro's website. They are just sooooo beautiful. They look very real - the water almost feels wet, the earth seems to smell like it does when you're gardening, the sky looks so big & the fire is like it's warm to touch.
Thanks Ciro - & for everyone still waiting for the big release - you're going to really love it when it comes out.
My current favourites are The Moon, the High Priestess, the Queen of Pentacles (love the peacock) & Strength.
Must rush off & take my lion for a walk!

Hi Black Cat,
I know exactly how you feel - my deck has a special place all to itself - I agree with you about the cards you chose as favorites - and add my special favorite, the six of swords. I still haven't decided what kind of shuffle to use - it is a bit of a handful - but I am having much too much fun getting to know all my cards up close and personal. I also like to try and figure out how many of the cards Ciro used himself as a model for- in addition to the Magician, that is - always seemed to me a given that that is himself. Talented, talented man.
As the High Priestess is my soul card, I am especially impressed with that card - but I would be hard pressed to pick one I didn't like.
I still plan to get the regular deck when it comes out - just for comparision purposes - and of course my special deck will me for me alone - guess I'm just too selfish to share this one.

But I went ahead and treated myself to this glorious deck!! I have been drooling over it at Ciro's website (not good for one's keyboard) for a long time, and finally took the plunge!
And it arrived today!!!! Mine is number 59, which reduces to 14 and ultimately to 5 -- a Hierophant deck. And, as I am a teacher, the symbolism is apt!
Opening the drab brown box, I lifted out an incredible woven box/basket with a metal clasp. Inside the deck was wrapped in gold foil-like paper. I first opened the certificate with the deck number, which is printed on very heavy paper, and beautiful enough to frame (think I will!)
I then carefully lifted the deck from the box and opened the paper...absolutely breath-taking!!!!! The dedication card, with my name on it, was overwhelming. And the exquisite cards!!! Such vivid colors, the figures seem to be alive and inhabiting this wonderful realm. I can't begin to pick out favorites yet, but I'm sure I will soon.
I, too, will purchase the deck this fall, and give copies to my Tarot buddies. Nobody's gonna touch this one but me!!!!
More comments to come (I want to go back and play with the deck some more),

Hi Asher - I'm surprised only a little to find your deck is number 59 - Mine (purchased in January) is number 45 - I bought it in honor of my 54th birthday, both numbers reducing to 9 for the Hermit. My Year in Growth of the Hermit was the year in which I finally acted on my longtime desire to seriously study tarot. There are, as my tarot teacher says, no coincidences.
I guess all the boxes are different - mine is a soft yellow brocade. As for the Certificate - I DID frame it - if I'm gonna indulge in a deck like this, no point in not going all the way!!!
I know there are only 200 special edition decks to be made, so the rest of you have plenty of time to get one!! It truly is worth it.

Hi Lark,

My deck is number 48.
I told Ciro my favorite card and soul card was the High Priestess.
That is one of the cards that is different.
The light on the lamp is inside the lamp not on the top of it like on the web site.
The clothes colors on 7 other cards are different than on the website.
I'd be curious to know what cards are different for any of you.

Hi Everyone,
It's just lovely to be able to talk about this deck with people who understand how special it is and really care - there's only one other person in my home life who understands, the others just look at me as if I'm crazy!! (More Fool them!)
Interestingly though it has caught hold of my 12yr old daughter's imagination, she was home on school holidays when the box arrived & helped me unpack them - so the Gilded may have brought a new soul into the Tarot fraternity.
Thanks Asher & Thea, I hadn't thought about the number. Mine is 57, which comes down to 12 & then 3 - an Empress deck. How lovely, it's a very beautiful card and a great way for me to be paying her more attention in my life.
Thea your yellow brocade box sounds georgeous. Mine sounds the same as Asher's - a rectanglular wooden box with pressed metal inserts & a domed lid. At the moment I've lined it with a silk scarf to cushion the cards, but once I've worked out how I will make a padded silk permanent lining.
Back with more soon,

Hi Lark & Thea,
Isn't it great fun going through the deck & looking for the differences? I think I must be about to wear out Ciro's website!!
I've found 5 so far:
My High Priestess also has the light inside the lamp rather than on the top
My Temperance has flames coming out of her gold cup (the higher one)
My Hanging Man is wearing green jacket & boots with purple leggings
The lady in my Nine of Pentacles has a green dress
The stained glass window in the Five of Pentacles has pinky/purple panels around the outside instead of blue.
I would love to hear about the differences in your decks.

Hi Black* Cat,
My deck came in a dark green, cream, black, and bugundy rose tapestry fabric box with a black fringed tassle to use to open it and black braiding around the bottom and top.
The lid is domed and it's lined in black silk.
48 brakes down to 12 Hangman and 1+2=3 Empress.
Besides my High Priestess being different~light inside not outside of lamp
3 of Wands~ has a blue coat with pink medallions/ instead of green.
Fool~ has a purple hat not blue/pink coat not red/purple shoes not blue/purple and yellow checked pants not blue checked
Chariot~dressed in pink magenta with a magenta scarf/ not violet
Empress~ blue dress /not green
Emperor~teal and rose clothes/ instead of red and blue
Temperance~ green dress/ instead of orange / flames coming out of cup on the top
Hangman~Teal shirt not red/eggplant pants not green/ teal shoes not red
World~ teal leotard/ instead of purple
9 of Wands~ one bug on the leaves on the left/ instead of none
4 of Swords~four chains hanging in the back/ instead of none

I have found 8 differences so far...these old eyes are not as sharp as they once were!
HP - the green glow is inside the globe near the HP's head, instead of on the rim
Chariot - her dress and silks have more red than blue in the purple
Hanged Man - green tunic, boots, belt & purple tights, instead of burgundy (?) tunic, boots, gren tights & yellow belt
Temperance - flames coming out of the cup on the right
9 of Wands - insect in the leaves in lower left hand corner
4 of Swords - 2 chains hanging behind the banner w/the 3 swords
King of Swords - robe has more red than blue in the purple
9 of Pentacles - purple dress instead of blue
The jury's still out on 1 or 2 color changes; these could simply be variations in resolution between the web images and the actual deck.
Interesting to hear about the box variations , too. Mine is brown wood, woven, octagaonal in shape. It has metal hinges, and a metal clasp on the front. On the sides are 2 woven handles, and there is a ribbon inside to keep the lid from falling backwards. It is not lined, although I am trying to figure out how I might line it to keep the deck from sliding. (Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated)
Also, how are you all shuffling this thick deck? I'm almost afraid to... So far, I've only handled it gingerly, looking at one card after another.

Wow, so many changes,
My High Pirestess has the same light within the globe, not outside or on top.
3 Wands - red cloak
Fool - green hat & shoes, red coat, green/yellow checked leggings & sleeves
Chariot - violet dress, left side of scarf is more violet, right side is lavender
Temperance - flames coming out of the cup, purple dress
Hanged Man - Red jacket & boots, green leggings
9 Pentacles - purple dress
Emperor, robes are dark rose/purple and blue
9 Wands - I have the insect in the lower left corner
4 Swords - also has two chains behing the banner
Kind Swords - purple sleeves & leggings, violet robe
And I haven't even compared to Ciro's site yet!!!
I've been waiting until I have the time to give it a thorough going over
By the way - does anyone else have a 9/10 of Cups - if you do, you'll know what I mean - mine is framed!!!!

I would have missed the bug on 9 Wands & the chains on 4 Swords. I still can't find any differences in Cups - anyone found any??
My card colours are often quite different to the website, but I think it's my computer - the blue on the cards is a greener/blue while the website is a purple/blue, is this true for anyone else?
I'm also enjoying hearing about the different boxes - Ciro has gone to great trouble to make each deck as individual as possible, this edition is truely *special*.

Tee Hee, Lark
I know just what you mean!! That's why I had it framed. I don't know if you've heard the story of how my deck was almost ruined - Fedex left it on my front porch here in Maine in THE coldest day of the year!! I had a frozen brick at first. As the deck thawed and the cards could separate, I found several that had raised ragged dimples on them - I wanted to die or kill Fedex - but in time, the blemishes disappeared on all but two cards - the five and six of Swords. When I asked Ciro what I could do to either fix the ruined cards or order new ones, he graciously replaced them both!!!! Needless to say, I am very grateful and relieved to have a perfect deck. So my betassled pale yellow brocade box with deck inside sits on a special shelf - i take it down from time to time to just look through and get to know the cards. I want to be really familiar with them before I use them for my daily spreads - I have a feeling, they are going to sing!!

I am so glad things turned out well in the end...very good of Ciro to replace the damaged cards!

I have been thinking about something that we have discussed here before...whether or not one could justify spending a significant amount of money on this deck, and how "many" people, especially non-Tarot people ;) might question one's sanity in spending so much on a "deck of cards".
Well, I guess that all depends on what you consider to be a "deck of cards" and what you consider "art". People spend hundreds--even THOUSANDS--of dollars on artwork, everything from paintings to sculptures to some pretty crazy-looking pieces of "abstract" art....so where do you draw the line, really??? The idea of what is or is not considered art is very much a subjective determination.
But I think that if you consider the time, creative energy and talent that went into Ciro's deck of cards and consider the fact that what one is purchasing really amounts to 78 individual works of art....well, then I guess it seems like a pretty good deal! Especially since this particular piece is something you can actually interact with and enjoy....instead of just hanging it on the wall to collect dust!
Just something I wanted to throw out there....realizing of course that many of us cannot afford to spend huge amounts of money on paintings OR tarot decks. But, given a chunk of money and the choice between something to hang on the wall or some lovely cards to shuffle and spread and play with....I think I could easily make a case for choosing the cards!!!

Unfortunately, I also had a bad experience with FedEx delivering my Gilded. I asked that the package be left at my apartment complex office, in the event I was not home. On Saturday night, around 7:00 pm, FedEx came, saw the office was closed (duh!) and LEFT without coming to my apartment...and I was home!
A few quasi-hysterical phone calls later I had assurances that the delivery person would, in fact, come to my home at whatever time I chose. BUT, FedEx does not deliver on Sunday or Monday!!! Tho, to their credit, the delivery person came to my home at the appointed hour. (He did seem a bit nervous, as if I might bite his head off...smile. He must have been warned that a crazy man _really_ wanted his package!)
But to leave the package on someone's porch is inexcusable, Thea...glad it all worked out for you.

Dreaming's for wussies! ;) I just decided to get it, and want to order it as soon as I can, before he runs out. I'm not sure what to put on the 79th card. I'd like to have a photograph put on it. I wonder if he'll do that. I guess I'll go email him and ask him.

Hi All
I am lucky enought to have the best husband in the world, he bought me this wonderful deck for Christmas ! Easily the very best present ever ! And the most personal and meaningful, my 79th card is wonderful, it has a fabulous verse on it that my husband requested, very romantic and brought me to tears when I read it, so personal and loving.
My deck came in a fabulous wooden chest, with metal handle and metal sliding clasp on the front, it is lined in velvet and had the usual golden leaf paper wrapping the deck.
Mine is number 37, not sure how to break that one down??
Would it be a 10 wheel of fortune or a 1 Magician, or both??
Still have to go through the whole deck to see the changes in mine.
To anyone considering this deck, don't hesitate ! It is THE most amazing deck I have ever seen. The quality is wonderful, the colours incredible and the feel of this deck is very spiritual.
This is my favourite deck of all time, i really can't see anything ever topping this one, unless Ciro designs another one !!
I will be ordering a couple on the llewellyn version when its released so that I can use it each day without spoiliing my limited edition deck.
I honestly think this is one deck that will go down in history, like the RW or thoth decks. it really is that amazing.
hugs

Hi Babyd,
It's a wonderful deck - you are so lucky to have received it as a gift.
When you get the time do go through your deck & Ciro's website - it's a lot of fun & you'll find quite a few differences.

Does anyone know which deck mine would be? No 37, is it a Magician deck or a Wheel of Fortune deck?
Not sure, as I am none to great on numerology, okay with numbers that reduce below 10 but not too sure how to hanlde one that reduces to a 10 and a 1.

I think in this case you could associate it with either 1 (Magician) or 10 (Wheel of Fortune)....or both!!!!
Then again, I am no expert on numerology...second opinion, anyone??? ;)

I have heard from a reliable source that the Gilded companion book being published by Llewellyn has officially gone to press....and that as of right now, the October release date is right on schedule....:D
Which essentially means that we are looking at less than six months before the Llewellyn edition will be available!!!

Nope, October will be here before we realize it -- and since it's my birthday month, I can get the Gilded as a present!!!
I can't wait for it to be published, so I can use it! I have not even dared to try and shuffle my deck. It has a place of honor on my bookshelf in its gorgeous box, and I _carefully_ look through it almost every day. Everybody in my Tarot Circle wants to see it, but I have only shared it with my co-facilitator (who is going to order one herself), but I can't bring myself to take it out of the house. And I certainly don't want other people to handle it--it's my _own, personal_ deck!! (settle down, it's ok, no one's going to touch it if you don't want them to)
Whew...anyway, my point is that I want to _use_ this deck and look forward to October.

Hey Asher!
Wow....you have a lot more self-discipline than I do....
I would not be able to keep my hands off those cards....LOL  BUT I would be very careful about WHO ELSE gets to touch them....selfish of me but...OH WELL!!!
I completely understand your wanting to be very careful with them and not damage them....have you tried a "gentle shuffle"??? I think lark mentioned a shuffling method that allows her to shuffle them very gently....
Anyway, it will definitely be nice when the Llewellyn version comes out, so you can REALLY have some fun with them!!! :D

Happy Birthday Smokey, I'm glad the package got there on time.
Regarding the differences that other owners of these special editions have refered to, these are minor modification such as changes to the colour of costumes etc on various cards. These changes vary in both color and quanitity from deck to deck and have no significance beyond ensuring that everyone has a truly one of a kind deck, in addition to their personalized 79th card.
Regarding the Magician....hmmmm!!

It is absolutely gorgeous...I don't have lots of decks...and probably won't...I have ...eleven...but so far, my favorites are Camoin-Jodo TdM and the Radiant Rider Waite...with Sacred Circle running close...
I had to order the Limited Edition Gilded..another "retirement" treat....Ciro M. responded within hours, so I guess their are more to be made...he said "he is making them as we e-mail each other." Ty CreativeFire...
I just got an e-mail from Ciro M. re my shipping...asked for shipment to Post Office so Fed Ex doesn't drop and run...also asked him if differences in cards in Limited Edition GT are deliberate....it seems so...some wondered if the colors on the website were simply different:
CM replied: The differences are deliberate, they are simply a random selection of cards where I've made minor modifications to the colour of a costume here and there. It's just another way of ensuring that each deck is truly one of a kind
How cool is this! Can't wait to get them...and glad there will be a contest here at AT...so others might get that one!

I spoke with Barbara Moore at Llewellyn a couple of days ago, she assures me its September. All my communications with other members of the production and editing team there seems to indicate that they are on schedule.
Regarding the various colour changes. These are random both in quanitity and in which particular cards, from deck to deck not merely compared to the reference on my web site. The idea being that everyone of you owners of a special edition own a truly unique deck even if its by one card (other than your personalized 79th card of course).

Hi Smokey, I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your special edition GT.
The upcoming companion book was written by Barbara Moore, who heads the adquisitions division at Llewellyn. I provided artists notes, background information and various illustrations from the deck.

I just got my gilded deck!!!
:D
It came in a rectangular wooden box with a hinged pyramidal lid and a brass latch and handle. The panels of the box are overlaid with leather embossed with a floral pattern. The deck came wrapped in white tissue paper with a gold star pattern on it, and was tied with gold curling ribbon.
The 79th card had my name and a picture of me when I was 4 years old, sitting in my back yard, holding a toy guitar. The original was black and white and he gave it a nice blue cast.
I don't really believe in numerology, but I may have to start. Get this: my deck is #144 of 200. 144 is 12 squared (squared numbers are interesting, aren't they?) and 12 is my favorite number. Also, the digits of 144 add up to 9 and 9 is the number of the Hermit card, which I identify most with. The Hermit also is paired up with Virgo, which is my sign.
I'm off to check which cards in my deck are altered and I'll post more after I find out which.

I'll be happy to post the first reading for you, Lunakasha.
Okay, here are the differences... I think... some of them I'm not quite certain on because my deck is darker (less washed out) than the one online.
1. The Fool is dressed in a pink and purplish-blue outfit instead of pink and turquoise.
2. The bright star on the High Priestess card is behind the glass case on the pillar, instead of above it.
3. The Chariot driver's dress is magenta instead of purple (and the veil on the right is magenta).
4. The Hanged Man is wearing a blue-green tunic and boots and purple tights instead of a red tunic and boots and green tights.
5. Temperance's dress is magenta instead of orange.
6. The woman on the World has a turquoise unitard instead of a purple one.
7. The woman on the 6 of swords is wearing a magenta robe instead of a blue one.
8. There's a brown beetle on the leaves in the foreground of the 9 of wands.
9. The robe on the man in the 4 of pentacles is dark green instead of purple.
10. The dress on the woman in the 9 of pentacles is magenta instead of blue.
That's all I can see... Now I'm off to do a reading!

TADA! It arrived today...in a wooden/woven chest with beautifully tooled metal on the top...at first, I said, The Gilded Tarot...then I opened it and thought someone had sent me THREE decks....It is so THICK....stacked up, all the cards are about the total thickness of three mass-produced decks....
I want to examine them at my leisure...and won't have any till this weekend, probably....then will try to check and post differences....but my deck is #147 (1+4+7+12....1+2 =3)
Twelve: the Hanging Man
Three: My number...born Novemer 3
They are so lovely.....My 79th card: "May the Tarot act as a spiritual guide as you complete your journey in this life."
for I am in the later years of my life....so I want to medidate on this as I read and work with Tarot....I need to remember "spiritual" and "intuition" .....
More later...

Unfortunately I haven't... I've been nervously trying to decide how to mix them. I know they won't shuffle well. I'll buckle down to it tonight... unfortunately, I don't have Net access at my new place. I have to either come to Starbucks to post (where I am now, and my deck's at home) or post from work (not an option for this). So, I'll do the reading tonight and post it tomorrow night... Look for it in the Your Readings forum!
I know how you feel, though.... I'm not patient about this sort of thing, either! :D

Another quick thought...
I'd like to get one of the mass market decks when they come out, so I can use that and put my special edition deck away for safekeeping... only one small problem. I won't be able to use my 79th card in a reading. If CM wanted to make more money, he might try coming up with a way to allow us to order a copy of the 79th card that goes with the mass produced deck (size, thickness, materials, etc.) so we can use that in a reading.
Just a thought.

I wouldn't try to shuffle it the old fashioned way... the cards are very thick and stiff. I'll try some sort of "smearing them all over the table" type of mixing, or whatever you want to call it. I'm sure they won't slide together too well, either, though, because of the thickness.

OK...couldn't wait....I see what others see...color differences in garments in 7 cards....most of the seeming color differences are probably effect of printing...but
HP ...the green glow is larger and within the circle of the case upon the pedastal instead of smaller above and without...
Also, the Emperor..lower portion of my card looks orange, yellow and pink...(website somewhat different)
rest were garment colors completely different from website pix; not listing the website colors...but mine are:
Strength: purple dress
Hanging Man (not Hanged Man) turqoise jacket, purple tights. turqouise shoes (Hanging, not Hanged...as if not going to die, or process over?)
Temperance: purple dress
World: blue leotard
9 Pentacles: bright green dress on figure
6 Swords: fuschia cloak/hood on figure
website has differences in colors....
Cards are lovely....Umbrae, where are you when we need some new deck shuffling advice for VERY thick cards...

I've been shuffling mine like this...
I make two piles and then I just gently let them fall into each other .
Like a regular shuffle but without the bending of the cards.
They fall in clumps but it's works well enough that I feel the cards are shuffled.
It was a little awkward at first but after some practice I can do it pretty fast and it feels natural.

I don't know, but my images at least hint at the possability.
Thanks Cirom, To be honest I really hadn't thought of those images in that way, thats cool. I'm planning to get the Llewellyn deck/book set as well (for every day use and keep my special edition, just for little old me).
By the way Spiritwalker, Ciro replaced two of my cards which I damaged, weeks after I received the deck, and for free. I really think you've given the guy a bad rap.

I did notice that in the Wheel of Fortune! also...I love the idea of Hanging Man...as in a period of time where one needs to take a break and "hang out" as opposed to Hermit...more meditation...
Also like idea that he can set himself right again...
Whenever I rode a Ferris Wheel, I always thought of all the necessary mechanical cogs and things that had to work together so the wheel could turn...I found it a bit scarey to "trust" being on a Ferris Wheel...isn't that true of Fortune in life...things out of our control...luck ...letting go...

To be honest Terri, I'm a little confused myself. All I know is that there is both the deck and a 130 plus page companion book contained inside the outer package. Approximate size 5.5 x 8.5 inches. Now wether the book is available seperately I'm not sure. I must admit I was suprized by the price at Amazon. But I really don't know. I think other members will have a better feel for how much of a discount is the norm for preorders.
Sorry I could'nt be of more help. Maybe if you contact Llewellyn they can clarify.

It says by Ciro Marchetti & Barbara Moore so I would feel comfortable assuming it is both the deck and book. Also, Llewellyn does not usually sell their sets separtely.

The pre-order price is $16.97, which is 32% off the regular price. I am very tempted to pre-order it (and I have had pretty good luck with amazon) BUT then I am reminded of the way they dumped the pre-orders for the Golden.....and also I know of several people who pre-ordered the Gendron book, only to be told, MONTHS later: sorry, there is no separate book available.

When you get the deck, let me know how YOU shuffle it...Lark is working with hers, I know. Oakie still owes you a reading. I haven't used mine for one yet. I finally got the nerve to take it out of it's box where I kept putting it after looking at the cards. It now has a velvet bag of it's own...and my next live reading will be a Gilded Tarot reading...
One of my favorite cards, is the Hanging Man, with the chain just out of his reach, as though he is there by choice...for a myriad of reasons, but can "pull the chain" anytime he wishes and set himself free....
glad for you again...

Thanks....looking forward to hearing your stories!!!

01 Jun 2004 |
|
Hey, Luna!
My 79th card isn't terribly unique...It says "May the Tarot act as a spiritual guide for you as you complete your journey in this life"...It reminds me of my purpose for reading for myself and for others.
I did my FIRST GT reading live today....with my tmgrl spread...
The Devil came up in my Valiant position...day to day issues to leave behind...of course, I won't go into entire reading here, since that would belong in My Readings....but when I didn't see those two people below the devil with those "loose" chains around their necks...at first, I felt "deprived" since I always thought of them as not really being "chained" like Ciro's Hanging Man...but then I saw the fire/light rising up toward the Devil...and it came to me...The above comes from the below and the below from above...and the whole message of the rising light coming up from earth to consume what is above in This card...brought forth the same idea of "choice"...the dual idea of the "fires of hell" below but also of the light being below the Devil...that we can choose to be free. In the context of the other cards, the reading felt quite ok... My Q was unknown to me personally. She is a teacher in the Private Hebrew Day School where I see on Kindergarten child. We rarely talk, but today we started talking about the Kabbalah..and Tarot...and off we went...
Anyhow, perhaps, we can use this thread for right now to discuss some individualities about the deck, but perhaps at some point, we can start a thread about Using the Gilded Tarot. Right now, I just wanted to share this one card difference.
I wonder what Ciro would say about his Devil card....
Of course, I also associate V and XV and see V's as order and disorder (number wise)..Also, I see V, The Hierophant (Pope) as a wise but perhaps stubborn hold man...somehow, for me, this element of persistence in the lures offered by the Devil moves in XV for me...

I like your quote....I was thinking I might try to come up with something myself....hmmm!!! :P Still trying to decide on a photo or picture of some kind...I already know that I don't want to use a photo of myself....just not for me! :)
I think it would be an excellent idea to start a study group with the Gilded cards...although it might be better to wait until September so that everyone can participate...

We might not have a forum for it by itself, but we certainly could start threads under Using Tarot Cards...if we wanted to discuss the cards and the meanings....I know I will keep discovering things as I use the deck.
I could never use a picture either for something like the 79th card. I really didn't give it major thought. It was pretty much what came to me when I placed the order. I was so happy about my PayPal finally going through, I just wanted to get the deck under way.
Ciro was great to work with on the order...that's so personal of him and special that we can share with him in the forums as well as e-mail him about the order or the deck.

Luna, have you looked at all the cards on his website already?
Any favorites? How about other deck owners? Any favorites?
Mine is still The Hanging Man. But that could change.

Are we having fun yet, Luna?
That's one of the great joys of Tarot and AT..
And today's first GT reading for me was lovely!
Don't know fully what my Q thought, but it doesn't matter. All that mattered was that I do my best and move on..

Lunakasha - have just caught up on the news of your Gilded deck - how lovely and exciting for you!!!! :) Hope you have a wonderful time with your new deck when it arrives.
I have been reading your and terri's posts on a study group, I think it is a great idea as no doubt by the sounds of it, as soon as the general release comes out in a few months, there will be quite a few here at AT keen to get into it.
I think (as I am no expert in this), but you can start new study groups under the "General" part of the Study Group forums. There is a thread that outlines about starting a new study group and what is required for it to get its own thread eventually etc.
http://www.tarotforum.net/announcement.php?s=&forumid=14&announcementid=51
Even though the general release is still a few months away, it wouldn't hurt to get the outline of the study group going as there are already a few lucky AT members who have the limited edition. Just a thought and something to work on while we all wait impatiently for September! For us without the deck at the moment, we could even possibly follow along for a while with the card views from the web site and then join more when the general release is available.
Once again congratulations Lunakasha - I am thrilled for you and you will have to let us all know about your beautiful new deck and the box it comes in as soon as you get it!
Cheers

Thank you Creative Fire!!!! (((HUGS)))
I am VERY excited to get a look at my preciousssssss LOL!!!!
And will definitely post the details here when it arrives...:D
I am very interested in getting a study group together....as you said, maybe at least figuring out an outline, and then maybe start a few threads...I just don't want to get too far ahead of people who would like to join us after the September release. I also liked tmgrl2's ideas about starting some threads in the "Using Tarot Cards" forum, as long as this is acceptable to the moderators (helping us to determine whether the threads belong there or in the Study forum).
Looking forward to many hours perusing the cards with everyone! :D

On my 79th card I just put my favourite quote: "our truest life is when we are in dreams, awake" which seems to epitomise the tarot for me - it makes the deck feel so *mine* somehow.
The study group is a great idea - count me in whenever you guys think it's a good time to begin.
On the shuffling question there was a great post a while back (I can't remember who wrote it, sorry) who suggested a method that I use for this deck. You deal the deck into seven piles, pick one up & deal it on top of the other six. Keep going until you have two piles & then combine them. I do this a few times until it feels that they are well mixed. Sometimes I do it right side up & watch the beautiful cards go past, but mostly I do it with the backs up (I LOVE the backs) - it's quite meditative & peaceful & takes longer to describe than to do!!
I'm still finding favourite cards (Qn Pents, the beautiful *flowingness* of Temperance, the Star, my own small stripey tiger in the foliage of the six of cups) but Strength is still holding her own at the top of the list.
I've just finished lining my georgeous box (Asher, did you ever get around to doing yours? It's easier than it sounds).
Congrats, luna (& keep the Gilded tales flowing)

I, too, would love to participate in a study group! Though I am very new to AT and new to reading. I have been collecting tarot decks/sets for about 4 years now (have managed to amass 70 decks/sets now!) and have used the cards for personal meditation for many years.
When I first ran across the Gilded Tarot and then Ciro's wedsite with all his beautiful images, I knew this was the deck I could read with and study for a lifetime. So, if you all wouldn't mind someone in the group that was little more than a sponge soaking up insight and knowledge, count me in!!!

I'll be very interested to follow this study group once its up and running. Its fascinating to hear the various interpretations. It also hopefully indicates that I've achieved a balance between creating a reasonably faithfull RW based deck which is easy to read, but one that still leaves room for personal intepretations.
Many of the requests I've received by e-mail for various clarifications will be explained in the companion book that I think Llewellyn have done a very nice job with, and I think you will enjoy. But I would address one particular card that did raise some initial question marks when I first presented it. But after hearing my rational, Barbara Moore was then quite ok with it. Namely the ten of cups. Initially it was politely pointed out to me that the image was lacking a key male figure to complete the traditional "happy home" scene. However, I imagined this scene in the first person. I am the male figure if you will. The domestic scene that you see is the one that I also see, the one that welcomes me, the hunter, farmer, forester etc, on my return from my daily duties.
I hope that this take on it makes sense.

That's a good point, we get so familiar with the 'expected' we don't think outside the box--such as seeing it from someone else's eyes as they live the card. Good thing to point out!

Good point, Ciro, about the Ten of Cups. As we look at many cards, the choice of sex of the figure(s) doesn't necessarily mean that the feminine or masculine aspect has been omitted. A woman of strong inner strength and one who may also be a provider could identify with the role you see for the depicted male.
In fact, in my household, my traditional Sicialian "provider-hunter-gather" has become quite dependant on me to his great consternation over the past 6 years. However, I am glad that I can provide financially now, when we both need that piece in place. My husband, on the other hand, is going deep within and his softer, gentler, feminine side is stepping forward. He is blind now and "sees" much of life through different eyes. He has always been extremely intuitive, but now his empathy with others is at a whole different level.
So, I wouldn't worry. The cards will work for one who looks beyond a single element or sex of depicted character.

Looks like we started our study group....

Thanks for sharing that Ciro....
I think it is important, as you mentioned, to find a balance between "traditional" card meanings and some creative interpretation of those meanings. Otherwise, if every deck were an exact replica of the RWS imagery, with no variations....what would be the point of having more than one deck? Personally, one of the reasons I collect so many decks (other than greed and lack of willpower }) ) is to get different perspectives on the cards and hopefully allowing the imagery to guide me in different directions...I would find it very boring if I were limited to one deck or one strict set of "meanings" or guidelines.
I think you have done an incredible job of closely following the RWS structure, while also putting your own unique spin on the cards in many ways. I never questioned the intended meaning of the Ten of Cups, simply because the male figure was not shown.

I'm somewhat of an organized person... so I suggest that you (Luna) choose a card... then we discuss. When you feel ready, choose a new card....(although we can keep the previous cards ongoing)...
That saves the chaos of everyone posting a different card...
But I'm open to other suggestions..

Thanks, DP.....
I have no problem starting us off with a card, if that is how everyone would like to do this....maybe a new card every week???
Do people have a preference for the order of cards, or would you like me to choose them at random??? For example, in other study groups people have chosen to start with the Majors and go in order from the Fool to the World....others have worked through the Minors, one suit at a time. I personally prefer to jump back and forth between the Majors and Minors....would like to know from everyone how much "structure" you would like to see...
Here is another thought I had:
I would like to start with a thread for everyone to tell us about their favorite Gilded card (or two or three, LOL!!!). Just to get us warmed up a little...I would really enjoy hearing about the cards that are most meaningful to people, and why....
What do you all think??? :D
Please post any suggestions here so we can get started fairly soon....thanks!!! :D

Anyone who would like to, can download it for free. The only thing is its a reasonably large file and you'll need a little patience if you don't have a fast access internet connection. Also, while it will work on older machines, playback may be slower or choppier. Anyway for those who decide to try it....enjoy.

First, thanks to Ciro, for staying in touch with us through AT...I feel his love for his own work will encourage him to give us input when we start our study group as well.
And, Luna, I agree with everyone else....get it up and running!
I'm ok with however we do it...I would like some leeway, for postings about individual questions re cards as they come up...just like the 10 of Cups Question arose...and for me, the Devil card surprising me by not having those two humans in the lower part....all of which adds to its uniqueness. So if we could weave this into the Study Group, fine. If not, we can always post a separate thread under Using Tarot Cards about particular meanings and interpretations of cards in the deck.

I also think it a great idea that Lunakasha lead off our Gilded Study group. Lunakasha will now also be known as the "Gilded Queen"! :D
In regards to what order - I also would like to have a random selection of cards. Even though I usually like things pretty structured, but as there are a number of different study groups going eg. 78 Week Study group, Thoth Study Group - most of these seem to start with the Majors, so it would be nice to have one that covers different cards instead. Maybe Lunakasha can just draw one at random from the deck each week. :)
Just a suggestion, but as terri also mentioned, there maybe questions that come up about different cards as we go, if we start all the threads off with say "Gilded Study Group" and then the card name for the more formal study of the card eg. "Gilded Study Group - Ace of Wands" and then for the questions still have "Gilded Study Group - 10 of Cups Question?". Then when we do end up doing the full study of the card, these "question" threads can be easily found and linked to the main card thread for reference. Does that make sense? LOL
I am just thinking along the lines of the outline for study groups that once we get more than 10+ threads, Solandia may set up a separate forum for the study of the deck and then all the info will be in one spot and easier to find and jump around between cards - just my 2c worth. :)
Even though I won't have the deck until the general release in September I am happy to follow along with the cards on the website until then if everyone wants to start sooner rather than later.
Cheers

Thanks terri....
I don't see any reason why we shouldn't post questions about the cards on their respective threads....I think that is all part of the discussion process, and hopefully by bringing up a question, this might allow others to get a different perspective on that card. Again....all part of the learning and discussion that I would hope to see happening on all of the study group threads....
If someone has an urgent need to discuss a specific card which does not already have a thread going, we can always start a new thread for that card....just as long as we do not post too many threads at once.

I agree, Luna, if we have questions about a card that already has a thread, just post it there....or if it's a card we haven't yet studied, we can start a new thread with a question.
I personally like the idea of random pulls. Every time I decide to get started in a formal group, I never seem to get past the Empress or the Chariot...In the TdM, we have had random cards pulled for study and I really like it....unless they aren't random and I'm just picking up on a bumped link, but it's fun to see a link for a card and join in ...that way the variety of cards I study, at least seems to be more expanded, since I also get into the TdMarseille cards and some RW too.
This should be fun. I just posted in punchinella's thread about finding live querents what happened today (in depth) when I pulled out the Gilded deck in between all-day meetings at our administration building.....If I keep this up, Ciro will make me a marketing manager in my retirement. LOL

Hi CreativeFire!!! :)
Would you believe I somehow missed this post yesterday, and have just read it now??? OOPS!!!
Well, I really like your suggestion of including Question threads as they come up, which tmgrl also mentioned. I think this would be great....again, as long as we don't end up with too many threads popping up at once. I also agree that it will be much easier and less confusing once the group moves to its own forum.....
Meanwhile, I am keeping an ongoing list of all the study group threads in one place, so that people can quickly find the cards currently being discussed:

Also, if anyone decides to open a thread, please PM me so that I can add it to the list and hopefully avoid duplicate threads....thanks! :P

Hi, I'm Lisa.. and I'm a Gilded Tartoholic. LunaKasha made me who I am today. Along with the creator of this deck. And now I can't wait. I CAN'T wait!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!! I gotta have it NOW!! ;)
Ok... :::breathing deeply::: This is a beautiful deck! :) I love so many of the cards so I'll have to go back to the website and see which ones are my faves. I do love the Lovers and The Star. And the 2 of cups.
I also LOVE how it's close to the Rider Waite symbolism .. so I can use this with the books that are out there on the market. I'll be able to read this right out of the box. :)
But I am curious.. will there be a regular book to go along with this? Is this a boxed set or will it be a deck by itself? If with a book, is the artist also the author?
ps: I have seen this thread around for such a long time but always bypassed it because I thought it was for another deck (one with gold edges) that I'm not into. It's a good thing I didnt know about this deck sooner. I'd have gone nuts if I had to wait a year! ;p 3 months is bad enough!
September will be a good month. :) New season of the Ellen DeGeneres Show... and release of the Gilded Tarot. :) :)

Hello Lisa.....and welcome to the world of Gilded addiction!!! })
There is no cure....but you can find support here, with the rest of the addicts, hehehehehe!!! :P
Glad you have discovered the Gilded and are as excited about it as the rest of us!!! :D
I wanted to answer a couple of your questions....
Yes, the release date for the Llewellyn edition is September; earlier reports had estimated an October release, but fortunately the process with Llewellyn has gone very smoothly and all indications are that it will be released on-schedule, in September!
There will be a companion book released with the deck, and you can purchase them as a set....I am not sure if the deck is available separately or not, but I think the preorders on amazon are for the deck/book set.....
I look forward to seeing you here and on the study group threads!!!

Also, while it will work on older machines, playback may be slower or choppier. Anyway for those who decide to try it....enjoy.
I have just downloaded and installed Ciro's Gilded Screensaver and it is awesome!! Thanks Ciro for taking the time to provide this screen saver it is beautiful! :) Love how the background colours change as well as the images!

On another thread, there is some discussion of shuffling ze preccccccccccccious Gilded. Hehehe. I for one know that I would be very careful when shuffling such an expensive deck.
Anyway... it got me to thinking of an interesting question. This is for all the LE Gilded owners here:
What would you do if you or someone damaged one of your Gilded cards?
Would you break that person's fingers? Haha.
})
LOL.

More like hang them by their thumbs, smeared with honey, over the top of an ant hill.
Then I would email my dear Ciro and beg for a replacement card.
Here is a picture of my preccccccccious being used for it's daily spread.
The box on the left is what they came in.
The box on the right is my green bumble bee box that I keep the Robin Wood in.

For those of you who already own a Gilded LE, or intend to obtain a standard version when released. Attached is a reference file of another item that can be downloaded from my site. (within a couple of hours).
http://www.ciromarchetti.com/gilded_tarot/gift_shop.html
Its a Gilded themed letterhead, that can be used to write down reading you produce for your clients when using the Gilded.
The file, once downloaded can be output on your printer, or taken to your local instant printer to run off copies.

To my great surprise and joy.....my Limited Edition Gilded deck arrived EARLY....and I wanted to come here and share my first impressions of the preciousss with all of my friends here! :)
Yes...I was expecting delivery on Tuesday, so imagine my surprise when Mr. Fed Ex pulled up in front of my house Saturday morning!!!
(I think I may have scared him a little bit....:P)
First I opened my signed print--Peacock Lagoon, which is a GORGEOUS scene of water, mountains, moon and stars....the colors are exquisite, all shades of blue, green and violet. The peacocks also remind me of the Pentacles court cards of the Gilded....thanks Ciro!!! :D
Then I scurried off to a quiet room to open the box containing my beautiful new deck....my hands were shaking!!! Inside the cardboard box there was a beautiful, burgundy, green and black tapestry box with a domed, padded lid. The box was trimmed with black braiding and a black tassel on the lid. Very elegant!
I slowly opened the box to find a treasure of gold inside..... nestled underneath some golden tinsel, the deck was carefully wrapped inside shiny gold paper. The presentation took my breath away....and remains inside the box with the deck....
I opened the gold paper very carefully...and sitting on top was my 79th card.....it was absolutely perfect, even more beautiful than I had imagined it would be. Ciro had taken my suggestions, my verse, and added his own magic touch...to create a unique card that really made the deck feel personal and special to me.
After spending a few minutes with my 79th card, I began to look through the other 78 cards, very slowly. How can I begin to describe it??? Well....as others here have mentioned, the richness of these colors, and especially the tiny details, are much clearer in the cards than they appear on the website. As beautiful as they are online, the actual cards are so much more vibrant, crisp...alive. I was--and am--truly amazed by the beauty and exquisite detail of each card....I also felt immediately that these cards will be very intuitive and a pleasure to read with. Ciro has succeeded in creating a deck that is not only visually stunning, but also follows the RWS system closely enough to make it easy to interpret the meanings...whether the person is a beginner or more experienced reader....
There is so much more I could say....and I look forward to posting in more detail through the study threads. I am still in shock that this deck is really mine....and I am incredibly grateful to the generous, anonymous Aeclectic member who has made this happen for me. Thank you so much....I will enjoy and treasure these cards more than you know.....

Today I just received the Gilded Tarot in the mail. My husband knew I wanted the deck and surprised me by purchasing it for my anniversary present which is actually July 9th. He is obviously the best husband in the world. He said he was waiting for our anniversary to get the deck for me and that makes it even more special.
He had me email Ciro a few weeks ago with some questions about the deck and I guess in the meantime while I was having conversations with Ciro he had already ordered it. When Steve told me he had ordered it, I started thinking about what I wanted on my 79th card. I came up with an idea and Ciro made magic! It is absolutely stunning and holds significant meaning to me.
I wanted to wait till I had it in hand and post afterwards because I was still in shock that I would be receiving it. Well, it came today. It was in a beautiful wood box that looks like a treasure chest with handles and a clasp to open it. Inside it was all wrapped in gold foil and tied with a gold ribbon. It looked absolutely stunning with gold foil strips all around it.
First I saw my 79th card, which Is soooooooo wonderful. I had seen it before when I asked Ciro to send me a sample of how it looked, but In person it is even better. Then I slowly went through all my cards which I have 10 changes. The colors are even better in person and more vibrant than the webpage can do justice.
I am just soooo thankful to my wonderful husband who isn't into tarot at all, but because he knew of my love for it he bought me something I will always treasure.

Centaur~ you are too funny!!!
I'm still trying to win the lottery and I promise I'll send you a Gilded if I do.
But your very own "sugar daddy" would be even better.
Luna~ You're very welcome!
Having my own space is so calming and puts me in the right frame of mind to do readings.
I recommend it to everyone.
A small desk, a bedside table, even a shelf in a bookcase, or in a closet.
As long as it's all yours and you can put your very special things on it.
Summerdream~ I think your 79th card is beautiful!
Luna yours too. (I love ravens.)
I'm jealous because mine is so plain.
I didn't know I could be so creative with it.
I was so shocked at winning the Gilded that I didn't put much though into my 79th card.
It just says " This Special Edition Gilded tarot by Ciro Marchetti was produced for (then my name.) Deck number 48.
I would do it all different now after seeing how creative you all were and what a magician Ciro is with your ideas.
tmgrl2~ I have a funny feeling that the Gilded will be getting its own study group once it's published in Sept. :)

I have really enjoyed seeing your 79th cards Summerdream and Luna - they are lovely! :) It is a great way to personalise the deck for you and make it even more special.
Summerdream, you are indeed very lucky to have such a thoughtful husband, what a wonderful gift.
lark and terri, I also think it is very important to have some 'tarot' space put aside that is special. I was lucky enough to get a small room for my Mother's day gift which I really enjoy (and use) so much. It is a good thing the computer is not in there as well, otherwise the family would never see me! LOL :D

I did another GT reading for myself today...
Two days ago, I did a Mind, Body, Spirit for myself: and got
Mind: Knight of Swords (all blue and intellectual dashing toward the past)
Body: Four of Cups (Reversed) No brainer since I have been having the thyroid med toxicity. I am SPENT and feeling it emotionally, even though the basis is a physical cause.
Spirit: 3 Pentacles. If you look at the GT 3 Pents, the "blacksmith has already forged in the fire, two perfect pentacles above his head. He holds the third one in his hand. It is in process of going through fire and water to become molded to its final shape. My spirit needs some healing, too, right now and I have to "forge" that third pentacle through patience and through some fire and water, hot and cold, ups and downs...
The downs started today...they jumped down two levels of levothyroxin (he wanted to go four, because my symptoms were a cardiac risk)...but now, I'm feeling tired and a bit blue...but trying to listen to my reading and let the intellectual Mind stuff of the Knight GO where he is heading ...in the past.
Also trying to be patient since this adjustment could be weeks, maybe months again.
So...here I am hanging out at AT between dinner, Golden Girls reruns and an interview with Big Bill Clinton on Biography tonight.
I love the way this deck speaks to me.
I pulled a card from the Sacred Circle today...After the GT, it just doesn't have the same impact...and the words are distracting to me....It's interesting that my favorite decks to read with are the GT and two of my Tarot de Marseille decks.
Be back later...terri

Best wishes and hugs!

Thanks, Luna...I hope I'm on my way. The card is so BLUE...I think of so many things with blue...not just intellect or communication for the Swords suit in the GT...It was also a lot of sadness...blue mood with the knight representing so much energy.
Just happened to be reading about Knights (Cavalier) in one of Klea's books. She talked about earlier connections with the Four Knights: Baton (Black Death), Coupe (Famine) Epee (War)
and Denier (Death) ...how dark is that?
But when I saw that Blue Knight and most of the card in blue, I felt like there was a battle in my mind over what was going on with me. What if? What if? Ohmygoodness...so the card was perfect: Send that Knight into the past where he was headed and get out of my own HEAD!

We received word approximately a half-hour ago that the massmarket edition of the Gilded Tarot has reached the publisher's, and is anticipated to be shipped to preordering dealers this week. We expect to receive our supply at Tarot Garden by Monday, or possibly sooner. Anyone who preordered this deck through us should receive a broadcast email update with full information within the next 72 hours.

WOW!!!!!
That is WONDERFUL news Jeannette!!!! :D
I did not preorder mine, so I will need to wait a little longer, but it is so nice to know that the deck is being released EARLY, especially after seeing so many decks being delayed recently.
Thanks for the update!!!

Yup...TG got it earlier than expected too! Awaiting mine as well.
Have been reading with my LE, but think the mass-produced deck will be the "wear and tear" deck!
Way to go, Ciro! May you sell out!

I received the Guilded Tarot as a gift about 4 months ago as an exchange for another deck. I wanted this deck so badly, it seemed as if it was calling to me. The art work is absolutely beautiful. But, since I've had it, I do not find myself connecting with this deck. I have "spent time" with it, and studied it intently, and although I find it beautifull to look at, I cannot read with it. I attempted to do readings with the Guilded on a couple of occasions, but I just don't feel "it" when I try to read these cards. I have been reading/studying Tarot for a couple of years now, and up until this deck, the only other deck I own is the Rider-Waite which I have no problems reading with. I wonder if anyone else has had this experience with this or any other deck, and If there is any advise out there for me about reading with this particular deck.

Since this is only your second deck, it may be that you're just having trouble making the transition to new images. I found when I first was trying new decks it took a little time reading with them before I could connect and my subconscious could learn the language of the new deck. I think that is normal, and I suggest, if you like the artwork, spend some time studying, playing, and doing three-card readings. Eventually, if the deck is right for you, it will click.
I find that it takes much less time, usually, for me to connect with a deck now, but not always. My Golden, which has become my favorite, took quite a while, I think because it is so rich and deep. I think getting to know a deck is like learning a new language, or a new kind of music.

I just bought the gilded yesterday. I smudged it and have been handling it and trying to study it. It took a while to click with my other 2 decks i read with so hoping it will just take some time. I look forward to working with it as I find it very beautiful.
