I am just starting out - I have only been reading for a couple of months. I was wondering if anyone had a deck suggestion for me. I am looking for a deck similiar to Rider - I want one with figures on all the cards. But like the Gill deck I would like it to have a one word prompt. Is there a deck out there like that? Can anyone suggest a deck for me? I have a Rider deck and a Hanson-Roberts. Thanks!

In terms of a Rider-Waite clone that has RW-inspired images on the numbered minor arcana cards and RW/Golden Dawn/Thoth keywords, there is the Napo Tarot deck by U.S. Games. You may not like the artwork though; but I did, for a time.
For scans of some of the cards, follow the links from this google.com search:

Hi Hyatt,
There is the Morgan Greer - its doesn't have keywords but its as easy to read as the Rider Waite and Hanson Roberts. Some of the cards do stray from the Rider Waite artwork, as the Hanson Roberts does. The Morgan Greer does feature more up-close cards than the Rider Waite, head and shoulders of the Kings and Queens for example. But its a very easy deck to adjust to after using the Rider Waite.
Hope this helps. :)

Decks aren't sacred. Pick out a deck you like, and write the keywords on it with a Sharpie. :)

Hi Hyatt,
I'm new here too. It's a great place to learn about decks, readings, meanings etc. If you feel like posting in the New Members Forum you'll get a great welcome!!
My favourite Rider-Waite style deck is the Hudes - have a look at it here:
www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/hudes/
The book that comes with it if you buy the set is quite useful & gives fairly concise meanings, but not one word ones. The cards mostly follow the RWS style, but occasionally Susan Hudes goes off on her own tangent & the cards look a bit different.
Hope this helps,

I, too, like the Robin Wood. The Morgan-Greer is also a favorite in the RWS vein. Of course my current favorite is the Golden. None of these have the one word prompts you are looking for.
Most of my decks which have wording on them are more in a Thoth/Marseille setting. The Quest Tarot and Sacred Circle come to mind. My favorite word-prompting deck is the Osho Zen but it is unlike any of the others.
I agree with Le_Corsair - get an old second hand RWS and mark on it for now until you get used to it that way if you need the prompt. It may seem overwhelming right now, but stay with it, one card at a time, and before you know it things will click. Just take a card or two a day and concentrate on them.
Good luck!

I don't have it but I think that the Tarot of Timeless Truth uses keywords and follows Rider Waite Smith interpretations.
You can see all of the cards at the artists website here
