Deck Themes

What deck theme or themes would you like to see come out in a comercial deck that have not been done before?

I think the idea of herb and crystal attributions are interesting to speculate on, but I've yet to care for a deck where they were the dominant feature. I would like to see them subltly incorporated into an RWS style deck though, with an accompanying book that explained the authors thinking behind the attributuions, both because I think it would add an interesting dimension and because herbs and crystals are so aesthetically pleasing.

I started out with a deck theme in mind, but it seems to have developed into criteria for the deck overall...

I would like a full 78-card Tarot deck which features excusively animals. That is, where most decks would depict a human, this deck would depict an animal instead, and where most decks would depict an animal, this deck would depict another animal or perhaps mythological being that would fit accordingly.

All the animals would be in their natural form; that is, they would not be anthropomorphized as they so often are.

The meanings of the cards would be expressed by animals interacting with each other and with the world around them in ways that are natural to them; that is, they would not be animals slotted into the life of humans, but rather animals being themselves in ways that expressed the meaning of the particular card.

The majors would be unchanged from the standard; that is, no substituting 'Change' for the Devil or 'Rebirth' for Death.

The minors would follow either the Golden Dawn or Crowley system. (Am I right in thinking that RWS uses the Golden Dawn?)

The suits would be water, air, fire, and earth. I find this gets the message across excellently and doesn't confuse people with swords and wands and which goes where and whether you use pentacles or disks or coins and so forth.

There would be gender and species balance in the cards. Animals would come from all over the world, not just, say, Europe.

Each set of courts would depict animals from a common genus. There would be gender balance there as well; that is, two males and two females.

*stops rambling about her dream deck*

*sighs wistfully*

Galadrial have you seen the Herbal tarot, it's very rider waite based and is the main deck used by an herbalist friend of mine to do do medical diagnosis.

I'm still waiting for a South Park deck :)

Kenny in the Death card, Timmy as the Chariot. So many possibilities!

Here's a site that only has 3 cards of a South Park Tarot. It hasn't been updated in a long time though. Guess they lost interest.

I don't know if this has been done before, but I haven't seen it yet. I'd like a deck that's based around Medieval cosmology -- the crystalline spheres of the heavens, the archangels and thrones and principalities, the primum mobile and empyreum, and so on.

I'm putting some aspects of this into the boracle deck that I have started on, but I'd like to see a real tarot like this, using medieval art.

I really like fun decks with a sense of humor and would like to see a Scooby Do tarot deck. Artwork would be in the style of the old tv show featuring all the different monsters and NO SCRAPPY DO! lol

Scrappy is cute, you monster!

laura_borealis,

That deck sounds beautiful! I'd love to see it too.

I have yet to find a really beautiful fairy-tale deck in the style of 'golden age' illustration . . . I would just die for such a deck. I wouldn't mind if it incorporated some more obscure legends from the middle ages as well (not just the stories we all already know).

I'm determined to learn to draw, in order to create this deck (yeah right, golden age punch LOL) but the problem is, in order to showcase all the material I want to use, the minors would have to be fully illustrated, & at the moment I'm completely turned off by anything but pips ( :| ) I would hate to create a deck that I couldn't actually use!

Of course, if some other (really talented person) creates this deck first I will breathe a sigh of relief . . . Giacinto Gaudenzi could do it, I think, but I doubt whether LS is about to commission the exact deck I'm dreaming of! (Especially since Alba Dorata/Incanti/Hidden Folk is similarly themed).

I would also love to see a Van Gogh tarot set with "Starry, Starry night" as the moon card ect.... Woudn't those be pretty cards!
