OMG...I didn't want to WANT any more decks!
But how can one resist?
From the summary:
"You’ve never seen tarot cards like these before. Imagine the celebrated “Ryder Deck” infused with the spirit of Leave It to Beaver, and the result is The Housewives Tarot—a dazzling retro interpretation of a classic divination system.
With illustrations of martini glasses (cups), mops and brooms (wands), Duncan Hines chocolate cake (the Devil), wood-paneled station wagons (the Chariot), bathroom scales (Judgment), and other 1950s iconography, these tarot cards can answer all of life’s most challenging questions. The enclosed instruction book shows you how to interpret all 78 cards—and describes how to assemble them using five different layouts: the Virgin Spread, the Neapolitan Spread, the Clothesline Spread, the Dinette Spread, and the Martini Spread..."
Whatta hoot!

This deck just seems so warm and friendly. Makes be think back to the times of A&W drive ins, drive in movies and apple and cherry pies. Talk about the perfect comfort deck for those days when we need a mental hug. I think this deck will be one that will be perfect for that.

That's EXACTLY what I thought (once I picked myself up off the floor from laughing) when I saw this deck. I have a friend who's fascinated by Tarot but is a bit spooked by it all. He's also a big fan of the Brini Maxwell show (that's on in the US). I bet this deck would be ideal for someone like him.

Greetings all! I recently joined this board and someone just told me about this thread, I was very excited. Just wanted to give you all a heads up, it's been delayed multiple times (not sure why, we finished it almost a year ago!) but it should almost, certainly, definitely be out in early December. In the meantime, you guys can check out the website at:
http://www.housewivestarot.com/
You'll need the Flash plug-in and a fast connection is recommended, but you can do sample readings, download desktops and some other fun stuff. I just finished it yesterday, so you all are the first ones to see it. Any feedback, posititve or negative, is greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

Hi Kath,
I discovered this site earlier this evening while looking to see if it had been released yet...kinda bummed to hear that it's been delayed a bit longer, but I guess good things are worth waiting for!
Anyway - the pop up takes you to Amazon.com, but it might not be coming up if you have a pop-up blocker on your computer. I can override my blocker by holding the control key while clicking on the link...not sure if that will work for you, but you might give it a try.
And Jude, your website is set up really nice, it's a great presentation for your deck. I love the 3 card reading page. Cool stuff!
Blessings,
Sally Anne

Thanks for the kind words! And Kath thanks for pointing out that problem for me. The web site was much more difficult than the cards, it looks/works a little different for everyone depending on their computer and settings, so it's helpful to have people check it for you.
On a side note, I can't really vouch for the "edibility" of the recipes. The "Psychic Psalad" would probably be particularly gross!

Great deck! I've already downloaded some desktop wallpaper, and can't wait to have the real thing in my hands. I love the use of chocolate cake as The Devil, something to which I can personally relate. :) Since my B-day is in December, maybe I can buy myself a present. Congrats on it's publication!

LOL, why someone would want to put cucumber, celery and pepper in the same dish as pineapple, orange gelatin and Cool Whip is beyond me ! Well maybe it looks nice and is only there for the colouring - or I am not psychic enough to appreciate it ;)

I'm sure she'll like it. It was definitely designed more as a "crossover/parody" deck, although there are enough classic R-W references to keep even the most advanced Tarot readers entertained (2 of swords is a good example of this, with the blindfolded woman with the turkey carving utensils).

Thanks for the great review! I'm excited to see the reviews it gets on Amazon, not so much for the positive ones from people who actually appreciate the humor, but from those who take it too seriously! It is kind of irreverent at times, but in the end it's really just lampooning outdated gender stereotypes and the culture of consumerism.

Just got my copy of this hysterical deck today!!! (Along with 3 copies for my 3 favorite "housewives" in my Tarot Circle).
It's June Cleaver meets Tarot. It certainly _is_ irreverent, and very much laughs at the stereotypical "housewife" who cooks and cleans in her dress and tasteful pearls. Such a hoot!!!!
But I think it will read beautifully, if you can get the other person to stop laughing long enough to hear the message.
AND, it's brilliantly designed/packaged in a _recipe box_, along with a substantial LWB!
Get this one, it's too delicious to pass up!

This is by far the coolest deck that I own! I absolutely had to get a copy for my sister who's wanted to read tarot for years but never found a deck that she clicked with. She's in love with all things quirky and retro so I think she'll love it. Plus I got myself another copy. One to read with and one to keep pristine (since everyone's been requesting readings with it nonstop). :) I don't think I've ever run across a deck that's made me laugh out loud at Death, The Devil, The Nine of Swords AND The Three of Swords! Fabulous!

I just got this deck and did a reading for myself using the Martini spread. I did the reading at my kitchen table and used a pastry mat for my spread cloth. The book suggests that to enhance the reading you should have a dry martini prepared before you start. I decided to substitute some vodka and lemonade. The very first card, representing my present position, was the six of cups! This card depicts a young girl with a somewhat mischievous grin and a glass of pink lemonade at her lips. In front of her are five more full glasses.
Up to this point, I had not been convinced this was anything more than a novelty deck, of interest to me only as a collector. This card seemed to be a wink from the tarot saying this deck does give accurate readings, and has fun while doing it!

Oh souljourney I would love to do a reading for you.
Just got my deck and I am so happy with it.
So here goes:
What food dish should you bring to the party?
Six of Cups~ A cut little girl (i had the same hair cut as a kid) is surrounded by 6 glasses of pink lemonade.
I think a big bucket of lemonade slush might be in order.
This card and the bright pink color also made me think of peppermint.
Maybe a tray of peppermint Christmas cookies for dessert.
But as for actual food this card says to me that you should go back to your childhood and pick a favorite Christmas dish your mother used to make.
You might even use her special hand written recipe.
And that is the dish that will be a big hit at the party!
What gift should you bring to the party?
4 of Wands~a woman lounges in a hamock supported by 4 sponge mops, a drink in one hand and a book in another.
A big smile on her face.
Below her, her fabulous new ranch style house is being built.
Oh what a great card for gift picking.
An address book, (peoples address books are always so shabby and falling apart.) you could put all the names and addresses of the people at the party in it.
Of course a bottle of nice wine is always welcome.
But most of all this card talks of something for the home.
Pretty throw pillows, new mailbox letters, fold out lawn chairs, a bucket of car care items, or cleaning supplies.
Or a handyman tool kit for those little fix up jobs around the house.
What should you wear?
10 of Cups~OHHHH something soft blue and very feminine.
All eyes will be on you.
Your glass will never go empty and you'll never be without a dance partener.
If you go with the soft blue!
p.s. Don't forget your deodorant, parties make you a little nervous. :D
And wear that special perfume you really like but you save for special occassions.
The outcome of the party.
Judgement~ a woman with the body of a thick chunk of beefsteak stands on a scale and clutches her head in dispair as she looks at the numbers on the scale.
Oh lordy this one really made me laugh.
souljourney you will eat and drink and be merry, but stay away from the scale for a few days untill you can get back on track with your normal sensible diet.
Also maybe a little hangover in your future....
A little regret the next day, and a little headache to boot.
But it sounds like a wonderful fun time!
Now that was a great reading and these cards are fun! fun! fun!
Thanks for being my guinea pig!
You don't have to give me a reading in return, what I really want to know is how the party goes and what you end up bringing!

Hi dolphinprincess.
You picky little card stock girl! :D
They are matt finish not shinny, and pretty thick.
You know how sometimes you get a new deck and you take it out of the package and you instantly know that the card stock is too thin and flimsy?
Well this deck did not feel like that at all.
They shuffle very well and don't stick or slide around.
I think with continued use they will get that soft fabric feel that some matt cards get after alot of use.
I used them at the fair on Sunday and they were a BIG HIT.
I'm going to get a spare set and that means I love them......only really loved decks get a spare set!

Thanks a bunch, Lark! Yes, I am super picky with card stock, as you well know. ;) I was afraid that they may be a little flimsy or thin, as this seems to be a real novelty deck...
However, after doing some sample readings on their website, I found the card pictures do very well at portraying the meaning. I think I could easily read with these cards and they are more than "novelty"... - so I think I may grab one.
Thanks for the input !!!!

I have to say I first bought them as merely a novalty for my collection.
I love anything retro 50ish....
But they read amazingly.
Very down to earth, get on with real life, readings.
I did a very serious reading about a family squabble on Sunday for a girl and these cards spoke volumes and offered some solid advice.
She went away very happy and vowing to buy herself a set.
The backs look like a red checkered table cloth...very cute.

Lark did a reading for me about the Yule celebration I'm attending.
I'm going to take her advice in those areas... something from Mom's recipe box for the food dish, wearing a blue sweater, and bringing something for the home as a gift. I've also decided to make sure I have someone walk my dog that night so if I do get a bit tipsy I can just spend the night. LOL.
I'll let everyone know how it turns out.
This deck is going on my evergrowing wishlist...

I'm hoping to get this deck for christmas or soon after. :) Meanwhile, I played around with the online reading version. I notice their Magician is taken to mean "a smooth talker", and similar meaning. Anyone who has the actual deck and accompanying book.. what else does it say about the Magician? Also, how much of the book is devoted to the card meanings? (and how much space per card?). Looking forward to this deck!

I found this deck at Border's yesterday. I never would have gone to the trouble of ordering it...I just don't do that much. But there it was, sitting on the shelf...staring at me. Beckoning to me in a little June Cleaver voice...
I couldn't resist. It was $14.95.
Got home...love everything about it, did a reading for a friend...gave a Real reading. Useful, etc.
I found one problem...the "instruction book" (not that I need it, but it's cute) is missing like 20 pages. ;( The same batch of 20 pages got put in the book twice, one upside down. So, I'll be exchanging it today...they had a 2nd set.
The book is really cool and I want to be able to read it all...some of it is soooo funny.
I will be sure to check the other book first. I know some people never even look at the book...so you all might want to check it. Also the website says it comes with "bonus recipe cards"...didn't see those either. No big deal about that, they are probably just cards of what's on the website.
Hopefully the book error was an isolated thing, cuz I think this deck is great...fun to use, and actually "real".
SJ
Edited to say...1. D'oh, I flipped around the dividers and yes there are the recipe cards. 2. got it exchanged no problem...and the book is fine!!! Now I just need a baby shower or something to read at...hehehe.

Hey you guys!
I'm feeling very jolly.... HO HO HO!
I made the cutes tarot bags yesterday out of a green checked dinner napkins and a cord that looks like a mini clothes line.
With little wooden beads at the ends.

This deck was the absolute hit of my Tarot Circle today! We spent an hour on a spread, and then had a Yule celebration. I gave my 4 favorite "housewives" this deck and they could not open them fast enough!!
I had to come up with a spread on the spot so they could try reading with them, and the readings were dead on! We laughed and laughed, read from the book (a hoot) and had a blast!
I'm glad I bought a set for myself, too.

But i will try and wrestle it from her hot little hands and take a picture of the one bag i saved for myself and post it.
Astraea your oven mitt, and recipe box ideas are wonderful!
Just think of all the things you could make tarot bags out of.
Pot holders, tea towels, dinner napkins, place mats, dresser scarfs, doillies.....

Mine came in the mail today. What a hoot! It is very funny, but very tarot-like at the same time.
I love the packaging -- a recipe box. I remember my mom had one -- index cards fit in the box, and it may have come with some tabs, too.
I haven't read with it yet ... I will let you all know how it reads for me.

This deck did not appeal to me at first... I had no desire to buy it...
Then I saw some scans on Tarotgarden - and played with the online readings on the deck's homepage..... and I realized how EASY this deck is to read with.
The images are lighthearted.. but you really get the point of the card.
After a few "aha" moments, I knew I had to have it...
And, I agree about the court cards... they are much clearer in this deck.

I have wanted a fun tarot for a long time, and was considering the Ferret, but this looks even better. And the price! From Amazon, it is incredibly cheap. I paid 3 times more for the Goddess. Okay, after Christmas shopping ALL day long... I went and bought this for myself. (I deserved it after buying those nice pressies for everyone else.) :D
Due to hectic holiday stuff, I've only had time to look through it briefly. Wow! Wow! ;) :D This set is great! The recipe box holder is really sturdy, and wonderfully functional. The recipe/divider cards are a hoot! (Major Arcana, Minor Arcana, Instruction Book.) And the cards are wonderful.
First of all, the colors are straight retro, and the backgrounds are this creamy color that looks exactly like aged magazine pages. Gorgeous. Second, it's not *just* retro images---it's retro images cleverly reconfigured to give a true Tarot meaning. Example: behind the Devil's food cake are cigarettes labeled 'vice', a pill bottle labeled 'valium' and the figure is holding a martini!
Third-the texture and actual 'feel' of the cards. :) They have a velvety matte finish that is very soft and homey. They are standard tarot size, too, and very easy to shuffle.
This deck has two cards that I especially love: the Heirophant and the Chariot. Now on most decks I just tolerate these cards. Not here-I love them! And since my soul card is the Chariot, it's nice to finally find one I *really* liked. :D
All in all, it's definitely the best $15 bucks I've spent today. ;)

Well, I must say I am blown away. This deck means a lot to me already. Growing up in the sixties, I was at the tail end of this type of advertising media, but since Mom never threw anything out, our home was always filled with images such as these. hee!hee!hee! This is one masterful piece of work!
It's absolutely delightful. Everything about it keeps to the spirit of the 1950s: the way the text is written, the font they've used, the colours they've used & obviously the images on the cards themselves. About the only thing which isn't, is the copyright on the inside of the book. lol! :D
Well done, Paul & Jude. I applaude you!
Having said all that, the only complaint I have is very picky indeed .. the 'velvety' plastic support inside the box puts a bit of fluff on the cards & it seems a smidge tight. If that's the only thing I can see wrong with these though, I would hardly count that as a problem.
I can't wait to do my first reading with these .. oh, goodie!! :D

Ahh, much better. They have some freedome of movement now. :)
I've just noticed all the things on the sides of the 'inside' box (the box that the cover goes over, I mean). Not a thing on the presentation of this deck has been missed!
This must be one of the most clever & complete bits of marketing I've ever come across. Sort of reminds me of an actor that never loses his character, even when the show's over. If it wan't for the copyright date, one might seriously believe that this deck really is from the '50s.
Well .. one that wasn't even thought of in the '50s might believe so, anyway. lol! :D

Hmm. I can't bring myself to throw the insert away. Now what I am going to do with it? It's the hoarder in me. That same hoarder which has caused us to carry around many, many boxes of my crap every time we move house, some which haven't even been opened in years.

I haven't read the whole thread, but did anyone else mention one of the majors out of sequence? I've been told that the High Priestess is in #4 position for some reason. Does this cause a problem? Is a reason given in the booklet/deck set as to why this was done?

HudsonGray,
We changed the order around slightly because it is the order we felt best supported the “story” element, the fool’s journey. The order of the cards has changed throughout history, and since there is no one correct order, this was the one we decided to go with. The main reason was that we felt the fool should meet her earthly parents before meeting her spirtual ones.

Finally my set arrived today in the UK.
WOW, I am truly blown away by this deck. I only bought it for its novelty value, never expected it to be so useable !
I adore it and have already ordered another set so I can use this one and keep one mint.
It is so funny, charming and cute, yet serious and wise all at once. No one could be offended by this deck, it is so lovely. It looks so authentically old too, and the presentation takes your breath away. Other tarot publishers could learn a thing or two from this deck and its presentation.
If you have any doubts about this deck at all, please push them to one side and get it, you will love it. I was grinning from ear to ear while looking through it. The cards are amazing. The quality is fab, presentation stunning and they work their way into your heart so fast ! ;O) They have the best court cards, really gets across the characters.
Even my hubby thought they were very clever.

and some of the creative ones said it was a definite inspiration...they might do their own tarot recipe box sets!
Some of the jello and other vintage Americana tastes invaded my mother's recipe book, so I enjoy the funny creativity of that time...I'm thinking this would be a great pick in January once it hits our local stores.
I keep popping to the website and this thread to hear more goodies.
Regards,
Cerulean
P.S. I was laughing at my own recipe card set that has copied from our local Auxiliary cookbook...because when they wrote "Corned Beef and Cabbage," in L.A. and thinking it would be good for a blustery St. Paddy's Day.. in Minneapolis, it's "Boiled Dinner" and a nice Saturday staple (so she didn't have to cook the next day and you could have ham sandwiches and fixings...)
In my local community cookbook, my favorite Friday night dinner of beef stew was actually labelled "Indonesian Curry Beef" in the recipe book. Now I know why no other household I know of cooked "Beef Stew" like I remember!

My birthday is on the 16th and I have always disliked being associated with The Tower (such a negative card). Now this deck has got me thinking about it in a whole new way. I had always thought of the people on the card as victims of the devastation and destruction, not in control of their situation. Housewives Tarot gives control back to the figure on the card, and destruction of the tower will be an act of liberation!

My husband had a great insight into this card: there is a lot of nonsense, hype and untruths that come from the TV.....now being able to decipher what is a riddle and what is not is what this card is about :D

Just out of curiosity, if you could have a companion to The Housewives Tarot, what would it be? We have a few ideas floating around, but I'm curious what people who have the Tarot think.
The ideas we've so far considered are: The Housewives Zodiac, The Housewives Ouija, and The Housewives Grimoire
But I'd love to get some feedback/ideas from people who have The Housewives Tarot.

Anything BUT the Housewives Ouija, please! From personal experience, Ouija boards are scary and I think I will keep my distance from anything Ouija!
Edited to add: But I think maybe palm reading might be fun, and something housewives might have engaged in during the 50's (if that's going to be the same style for the next project.....)
Edited again: And maybe a seance?

The Housewives Book Of Hexes and Spells
Stuborn stain to vanqish?
Noisy neighbor to put in her place?
Little Jimmy need a passing grade on his math test?
We have the answer.
The Housewives Book of Hexes and Spells.
What home could be without this indispensable volume.
Tucked up between Betty Crocker and that bottle of vodka know one knows you keep in the cupboard, it will become one of your best guides through the trials and tribulations of suburban living.
Example:
The Bonus Spell
Husband a little grumpy because that bonus he was expecting isn't materializing?
Well why not give it a little hand.
Take one Tupperware bowl, add to it a dollar bill, two sprigs of lavender, a pinch of Old Spice, and the bosses dinner napkin from that very special dinner party you gave last night.
Pop on lid, shake three times, and burp seal.
Now light a green candle and put on some fresh lipstick and a nice dress. Wait for hubby to come waltzing in the front door with a smile on his face and that bonus check in his hand.
It'll be dinner out and dancing for you tonight.

Dear Genteel Person,
These times, they are a changing!
Do you not yearn for the Great-Relative and Grandparently recipe for the best breakfast your youthful, careless stomach could digest, all the while listening to stories and good times that Genteel People of your Good Neighborhood could tell you?
But after a comforting breakfast, do you also not yearn for the Shallow Side, the Tea of Tantalizing Tidbets with Scandelous and Sinful recipes and comfortably curious behavior of the Nearly-Known Names of the Joan and John Does?
What would you do in this instance:
He, collared clerk, has pulled his hat down and his collar up, sneaking out of the neighbors doghouse at three in the morning! What was he doing, since his own Prized Princess Poodle is slated to enter the Beautiful Poodle Parade? Was he stealing tips from his neighbors Poodle? Was he doing Poodle Puddle divination? Was he taking hair samples to curl his own Princess in a similar hairdo? Oh, anything to steal the Neighborhood Thunder! What would you do, if you were awake, and also were innocently happening by, dressed in your best negligee and evening coat and pom-pomed slippers?
We added Dear Great Aunt and Great Uncle Authority, who has the best answer for every situation! In the above instance, if you were Collared Clerk, Neighbor Poodle, Negligee Neighbor, or the perhaps Prized Princess Poodle of Collared Clerk, whatever the question, Dear Great Aunt and Uncle have the made-in-the-shade answer!
Barring the above auxiliary and recipe book, I'll take hussy hints from the shallow counterpart....
Regards,
Cerulean

What about the Housewives' Oracle? You could include runes, or reading tea leaves. :D The Housewives' Book of Changes--the I Ching adapted for housewives, packaged with coins or marbles would be cool, too. :)
PS I agree about the Housewives' Ouija--too scary, and potentially dangerous.
Actually, you could do a grimoire that included both spells and other methods of divination, i.e. tea leaves etc.

I like the Housewives Grimoire or maybe A Housewives Recipes for Success. Maybe you could call it Madam Marlena's Recipes for Success? (To carry on the backstory from the Tarot)

I've had this deck on back order for months now from Amazon...it finally came today! I forgot all about it! It is a cute deck! Very welcoming deck, I think I can use it with those people who have a fear of traditional tarot decks. I can hardly wait to give it a try!

I'm convinced! Ordering it from Amazon.co.uk, it's going to be my Valentine's present from hubby. :) A whole month to wait to open it!
I like the idea of the Housewive's Zodiac, personally. Housewive's Grimoire would be a hoot! Another ixnay on the Ouija.

Not read through the thread in its entirety but noticed Jude Buffum's post about a companion piece so please forgive if this idea already mentioned.
Would be interested in a Housewives Grimoire.
& preferably as a 3-ring binder to add pages of our own stuff related to The Housewives Tarot, such as "workings" with the deck.

Ooooh, MeeWah, that is a good idea! Any maybe the kind of dividers that have pockets, so you can put in newspaper clippings, or things of that nature that are important and relevant! But again, I hope no Ouija stuff, too scary, and dangerous.
Just an all-around, useful Grimoire, with a little bit of everything, sort of like the old-fashioned "Home Companion" type of books from way back, that told a housewife EVERYTHING she might need to know to run her home! But this would really be EVERYTHING, even magick!
Are you getting all of this, Jude Buffum???

Great ideas everybody! So the Ouija is definitely out, eh?
I'm surprised actually, I never thought Ouija boards had any real sort of power, I mean weren't they pretty much invented by Parker Brothers?
I was definitely leaning more towards a spell book of sorts that also included divination rituals and whatnot.

Keslynn, have you seen the Empress card? It's Betty Crocker holding a spell book that's called "Recipes for Success" ;)

I like this idea, and I think a good marketing pitch, assuming it wouldn't be trademark infringement, would be to cover the binder in red-and-white large gingham, like the Better Homes & Gardens basic recipe book. Go to your local bookstore and browse the cooking section and you'll see it there, big and glossy.

I had noticed that before, but for some reason, it hadn't stuck in my head. Then I saw it again when I dug out the deck for readings. Maybe you could have the Empress on the book cover?
I also like the idea of a binder format with the gingham cover.

Ah...this thread got me to order this deck for my birthday (my tarot collection is growing...how am I getting the money for all of these decks you keep convincing me to buy? I don't want to know...) and I love it so much!
I did a new deck spread with it, and I knew we'd get along since it was...very...straight forward. I like that. It's a little strange in how it gets across its messages (such as when I did The Dinette spread and pulled 3 of Swords for position 9...I knew exactly what it was saying, but I was still amused by that choice!) but it's more readable than I thought it might be.
What I love most is the images. It's giving me a totally new outlook on things. I got The Hanged Man as my outcome card, and I was a bit scared. For me, that card always means change. Never means anything but change, and usually a big one (change that comes from change) and...I...hate...change. But then I turned the card upside down (as I tend to do with that particular card) and...look! The guy is SMILING! And he's got his arms up with little fists of victory. To quote myself, "Hey! He's excited...and so am I!"
Ah, but I'm almost rambling now...I'll just stop and say that I'm looking forward to buying any sort of companion material that goes with this deck. Anything that can make my mother pick up a tarot deck and start telling -me- what the images mean is definitely worth it.

Even better would be to repeat the same gingham & graphics on the Housewives Tarot box for the binder cover!!

I tried to resist this deck, I really, really did. At first it seemed too gimicky, and then to cutsey, and then too clever for its own good. No longer.
Now, after re-reading this thread, I must own this deck, hands down. I was saving up to buy the Fey, or perhaps the Tarot of Gothic Vampires, but no. Now I must own this instead.
And Amazon.com (US) is selling it right now for $10.17. My plan: I'll order it and have my parents send it to me when the rest of my online purchaces finally arrive at home. I thought the box would be full of text books bought over the Christmas break at cheap, cheap US prices. Now, do not want to wait -- want the box to come right away. Who needs text books? I want my new tarot deck!

For anyone who lives in San Diego or willing to take a drive if you live elsewhere in Southern California: If you can't find the deck, I saw a whole stack of these for sale at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) student bookstore.
Other possibilities might be giftshops that sell funky stuff, like "AAhs" on Ventura Bl in Sherman Oaks.

I'm glad to know there are others who are loving this deck as much as me! The few people on the net I have shared info about this deck with have been rather negative about it :(
I finally got my copy last week and I am already obsessed. I thought it would be more 'novelty' than tarot, but they have actually been working great and I find they are so easy to read with for a beginner (ish!) level reader like me. The cards are endearing but hold the meanings well, and I love the Court Cards, really brings them to life. The whole package is just fab and I really want to get another deck to put away safely - I just love the whole 'recipe cards' idea!

LOL  I just noticed the Kepple's French Dressing and Buffum Salad Oil. This deck is too clever! I keep finding new things I love about it.
I'm surprised at how well it resonates with so many people (myself included). I think it must be because we are so familiar with the images, either having grown up with them, or at least seeing them on TV. And of course I have to credit the designers, for all the thought and creativity that went into it.

I'm with everyone else, I LOVE this deck. When I first found it I HAD to have it. Went on my Amazon wishlist. Then when I got paid for some online readings, I snatched it up! You can't beat the price, and it's a good quality deck too. Even my husband likes it and he tends to go for more masculine decks that are a bit brutal in their honesty.
This one is straightforward and reads very easily. And now I want to decorate my new apartment in 50s kitsch LOL

I've done a few more readings with it, and it really does read like a dream. The little bit of humor is wonderful, too. The book fits well with the deck, essential keywords and a brief description, that helps the images kick-start your intuition.
And I love the Knight of Cups! Captures the charm as well as the flirtiness very well--in fact, all the court cards are great. :)

I just got this deck yesterday and I am so tickled with it! I love it! Not only is it adorable, it's actually deeper than I thought it would be and kicks in my intuition but with a slightly different perspective and attitude. The authors were just too creative with this, I applaud them sincerely. The book is insightful and fun and the cards are just toooo cute -- but don't let that fool you into thinking they're all fluff and nonsense -- NO WAY! They're great tarot cards!

When I first heard of this deck, I thought "Oh please----what a stupid idea! That's the last deck I'd ever want!". But last week I got it in the mail from a friend of mine and I love it! It's just brilliant!
I didn't notice the majors being out of sequence till it was mentioned here. I think the fact that the numbers are so inconspicuous at the bottom is why. You just see the title at first glance and not the number. I don't see that it's going to be any drawback for me with readings.
My favorite in the deck is the Death card. LOL

The out of sequence numbering threw me off at first, but as I thought more about it, it does make way in a sense, at least as far as ordering goes. Numerologically it throws me off, but this is a deck that is much more suited to visuals anyway, so I don't generally worry about the number.

I saw this one in Light Years yesterday and was tempted to buy it, but didn't because I'm not into retro 50's stuff at all. But after reading this thread, I just had to have it! :-) Thankfully it was still there and I love it!!!
It feels so good in my hands and seeing Mrs. Butterworth as the High Priestess brings back wonderful memories of learning to cook from my Granny. It's so happy, comforting and reads like a dream. :-)
At first I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to relate to the 50's, but as a housewife I can totally get into it. :-) Now were did I put my heels and pearls?
Thanks to everyone for posting about it and thanks to Paul and Jude for creating such a brilliant deck. :-) WOW! I've got to order a few more. :-)
Blessings,
Angel

I'm blown away by how well this deck reads--perhaps because the imagery is so familiar and easy to interpret, but it's also well-presented. And it's darn cute! I got this as a Valentine's gift (finally!) and am tickled with it. Definitely a different vibe than any other deck that I own or read with. Amazing how they all have their individual voices, isn't it?
I'm finding that it not only reads well for domestic matters, but also for work-related issues. And I love the fact that people who are wary of Tarot find this deck charming and less threatening. :) It's a fun, comfy deck.

At the local chain-bookstore, the Housewives' Tarot is located in the Humour section of the store, rather than in the New Age section. That should certainly give more exposure to tarot decks.

I love this deck! Definitely my current favourite. Like the Victoria Regina, it takes tarot into a whole new genre, without sacrificing readability.
It's funny and whimsical, but it's also very well constructed. Perhaps a little sparse in symbolism for a beginner, although it depends how well one trusts one's intuition as I think all the cards convey their basic meaning well.
What a great box/package/book, too. Even nicer than Golden :)
This is an ideal gift, even for friends who think tarot is a load of cobblers as it doesn't take itself too seriously.

hehe - I gave in to the hype and bought one myself - it goes down a treat at parties and with family (except for my mother, who hates it). We had such a laugh the other day with my American cousins - and it's pretty accurate too. I read for one cousin - he told me very little of his business situation, but after the reading he said he knew exaclty who that smiling stabber in the back was in the 7 of Swords! And one his 18-year old twins, who are working (and playing!) in the mountains here during their gap year, took one look at the chocolate-cake Devil on lovely legs, and said - ruefully- the name of his French girlfriend ;)
My sister was pleased with her business reading too.
I'm not too sure about Death, though - I don't really know how to interpret a jar of mayonnaise that has gone off...mind you, I've not had it come up in a reading yet.

That is the one thing about this deck Helvetica is that it can be interpretted so literally and make sense. I think that is something that makes the deck so readable... and give such great, accurate, insightful, no holds barred kind of readings. It is one of my more "cut to the chase" decks.

Absolutely literal! And yet it kind of has a "Now, girlfriend, this is what ya gotta do..." feel to it. Smart and sassy, it pulls no punches, but seems to always have your best interest at heart.
I like the Hanged Man card. Literally, you've gotten a new perspective and you're about to hang your problems out to dry. That's the sacrifice part, letting go of things you now see are hanging you up. The poke in the ribs is the housewife hanging "that man" out to dry...but OH so true sometimes!
It really is a surprising treat of a deck.

I got the Death card in a reading once. It was about a party this gal was going to attend and it came up in the "what food to bring" position. I warned her about whatever she brought... make sure it was kept at the right temp, etc. And be wary. Well... turns out she never made it to the party. She got food poisoning the night before. Talk about literal meanings...
