You just outbid me at the last minute for the Greenwood Tarot on eBay! Thank you for saving me from blowing $150 on a friggin' tarot deck! May you - um - enjoy it in good health })

fyreflye  19 Aug 2004
Actually, I see it was some creature named chickapoowinn who outbid us both.
You hesitated short of your goal! Well, at least you didn't blow $156 on a friggin' tarot deck:(

ferrous  20 Aug 2004
*chuckle* .. Yeah, I saw you were pipped at the post by $2.50. Bummer, hey? ;)

Seems that particular Greenwood slipped under the radar of the tarotheads population for a while because of the typo in the title. A 'geenwood' indeed. lol! :D

There's another one out there, but it's already gone to $125.95 with five bids on it & another day or so to go. I suspect it'll go for even higher than the first one.

I guess we'll just have to keep looking out for another one. ;)

Was that just the single deck or the deck and book set?

Diana  20 Aug 2004
Why don't the publishers just reprint the damn deck? It seems like the whole world (except me) wants a copy.

I think Jeannette explained this in a recent post (I'm too lazy to go and look for it). Even though there are people who would buy this deck, that doesn't necessarily mean it would be profitable for the publisher to republish it. It's true that the same publisher has republished the Ancient Egyptian and Merlin decks, but perhaps it feels those decks would in the end be more profitable than the Greenwood. They really need to sell thousands and thousands of copies in order for it to be worth it for them.

Pretty sure it was just the deck. I haven't seen any Greenwoods (since I've been looking, which isn't that long, admittedly), that are the set.

I lie. One is a set.

Must learn to read the descriptions more thoroughly. ;)

fyreflye  20 Aug 2004
The deck skipped by most of you because the seller was a total illiterate. Nowhere in his title or description was "Greenwood" spelled correctly, which is why our automatic searches never picked it up. If you read his meandering description you'll eventually be able to conclude that the book, the deck and the map of the journey are all included.
I just happened to be lurking there when the "geenwood" notice appeared and I immediately put a $151.17 upper limit bid on it. It sat there for most of the bidding period with only one other person noticing and trying a couple of feeble bids. A half-hour berfore bidding closed, with the highest bid so far at $93, the lurkers-at-the-time-ending-soonest page began to close in on me. True to my colors I stuck with my highest bid and went down with the ship.
I went through the same thing several times with the Servants of the Light Tarot set and finally gave up. Within a month a series of circumstances put me into the position of being able to trade for an SOL here. So I think I've learned my lesson and will just wait for the Great Dao to bless me again. eBay's just too stressful.
Of course, if there's anyone here with a Greenwood set, you know I'm willing to pay up to $151.17 for it :D

I wonder if everyone would want the deck if it was readily available?! LOL

I suspect that you're right, janstar.

WolfSpirit  21 Aug 2004
If the deck was readily available I might need another copy because I would be less careful with it. It is a deck I would like to take outside with me, but now I can't risk it.

I see myself walking through the forest losing a card every now and then and being followed by a mob of taroholics fighting over the cards I unknowingly dropped
Can't risk that no...

TygrEyes  21 Aug 2004
You're right, WolfSpirit. People who love the deck LOVE the deck & would probably buy an extra copy or two so we'd ALWAYS have a copy & not have to be so careful with it.

fyreflye  21 Aug 2004
The OTHER Greenwood deck on eBay just sold for a final bid almost exactly $100 more than the "geenwood" tarot did. Just shows the difference marketing, presentation and civilized spelling can make. Looks like this deck is going to be out of reach of most of us for awhile yet.
BTW, the buyer, profalcon 61, has been buying up VERY EXPENSIVE tarot decks on eBay by the carload recently (check the items purchased in his/her profile.) If you see this dude bidding against you, better pack it in and settle for a RARE VINTAGE 1971 Rider-Waite instead :D

I was thinking the exact same thing. I wonder that about a lot of decks. I don't want any new decks at the moment, but there are so many trying to get their hands on OOP ones; the Vertigo is another that always seems to rocket in price. I would have thought that another edition of that would be profitable.

Yes if you see what people are prepared to pay for it...they could make a more expensive "limited edition" and make a list of pre-orders if they think the deck would not be profitable in mass production.

Sulis  22 Aug 2004
Personally I would love a copy of the Greenwood. It was one of the decks I loved when I first looked through Aeclectics deck scans. I love the colors, the shamanistic earthy feel to it - it's gorgeous.

BUT

It's a deck of cards. It's some pictures which may be gorgeous but when all's said and done it's a deck of cards. Cardboard.

My kids need feeding, I'd like to take them on holiday this year. There's no way I'll be getting a Greenwood until it starts to be sold for a price befitting of a deck of cards ;)

love

Sulis xx

It sounds like you're trying to convince yourself, Sulis. :D You're so right though .. priorities have to come in the right order.
