Crow's Magick book?

I have just received this deck in a trade and I am delighted with it. It's a challenging deck to use and I will use it for meditation as well.

I believe there was an accompanying book for this deck with details of what the shapes represent in the card. Although it isn't necessary to know for reading with them I am always intrigued by what the symbols and shapes meant to the artist. In this case Londa Marks.

Better still, can anyone tell me if the book is worth getting (if it is still available).

Hi Moonbow,

I've got the Crow's Magick and the companion book.

The book isn't large 7inch x 5inch and 191 pages long, with a few blank pages included in that for your own notes.

There is good information in it though. This is what it says about the 4 of Swords:-

Quote' The Four of Swords card frames a phoenix rising fron the ashes, tranquil refreshed and renewed. Challenge and strife seem ridiculous once you realize that becoming who you are leaves no need for competition. Being true to self is not about competing, instead it means a focus on evolution and self-actualization.
No more contenders, a new release, a golden sigh with unwavering commitment to the new emerging bird. Fluffed up feathers and fancy dances pronounce the upcoming renaissance. A fascination with what is coming stokes an innate energy and primes the senses for bliss. An improved state of mind enables one to know what is truly valuable.

Divination:- Wonder. Play. Shedding old skin. Designing inner peace. Vacation. Rest. Rejuvenation. REstoration of mind, body and soul. Unplugged spirit soars into full bloom. The springtime of your life.

Reverse:- Knowing there is need for rest and revitalization, but not willing to take the time to make the change. Declining lifestyle. Low self-esteem. Unquote.

For a small book it does give good advice on how to use them. I found it very interesting.

For the Two of Cups it mentions the cups are really two golden beaks that mirror each other and connected - so on some cards she does mention what the shapes and figures represent.

I loved this deck when I first had it, a couple of years ago now but found it very hard to get into because it is non-traditional but I do still think its a stunning deck. :)

Thanks Emily,

I pulled the two of cups yesterday from this deck so it is interesting that you picked that one as an example..

What I figured out for myself was the mirror effect of the yellow shapes and therefore duality and connecting.

The four of swords also said to me - phoenix rising from the ashes and therefore a transformation of sorts.

It's always interesting to see what angle the artist puts on the illustrations - I would never have thought the two yellow shapes to be beaks but I guess this is where meditation with the deck comes in and I think I am already partially there.

The book would be useful, but I am thinking that I just need to spend more time with these.

Thanks for your reply, I noticed you had the deck in some of the old threads. I find regular immagery for tarot decks ideal for readings but sometimes I look for a deck that holds more, whether it be for studing, meditation, historical research or the artwork. And..... sometimes all of these. :)

I own and love this deck but I was unaware that there is a book that goes with it. It is a hard deck to decipher, but I love the artwork.

Incidentally, a while back Ms Marks was interviewed here on Aeclectic.

I found this interview quite helpful in understanding her artwork better.

Thanks Feebie

That is one hell of an interview, I like her, especially her 11 rules of life. And.. that was such a sad story about her son. I have a feeling that I will get on well with this deck it has already given me alot of inspiration.
