Does anyone have any decks that have been passed down through your family? If so, what kind of deck is it? How does it feel to use it?
I don't personally, but I find it extremely interesting. I hope to pass my special decks down to my daughter and hopefully become the first Tarot Matron of our family! I hope they are passed down for generations to come. I just think such decks would be really special.

I have not had a deck passed down to me, but wish that I have had done. It would be such a lovely thing to inherit; especially if it had been used and loved by someone that was very close to you. I often think that one day, it would be lovely to pass my decks down. My friends have children that are small at the moment, and it would be lovely to give them a beautifully loved and well used decks when they reach an age that they would really appreciate them.

I think inheriting something that had sentimental value for that person, be it a tarot deck, jewellery or a knick-knack, is a beautiful thing. I don’t have any inherited decks, but hopefully I can start a legacy with my decks and future children. One day someone will say ‘This deck belonged to my grandmother and mother, it’s been in our family for over 50 years’.

I wish! Something like that would be held so dear to my heart. I hope to pass my decks down to my children someday :)

No, I haven't inherited any, either. If I am ever left any, I will consider it a very beautiful thing -as long as I love and respect the person, naturally. (think of the bad vibes if not !Actually, don't think of the bad vibes if not ! <:( )
As for BEQUEATHING the decks that I have, yes, I hope to do that someday-I picture my daughter having them, but that's possibly sexist-I think I would give several decks to each of my children and to very special friends also. People who I know would be kind to them.
nice thread,
love

Oh....... I wish!
No, me neither, but I very firmly believe in inheriting things and I have made sure my kids have things from me. I do alot of stitching of tapestries and I have made a family sampler to hand down, it depicts my daughter's saxphone playing, my sons hobby of computers, my husbands interest in surfing and many other things. I also make handmade lace and I have a collection of antique bobbins which are inscribed, as well as more recent ones depicting royal weddings, special sporting events etc.
I would have loved to have something that my grandmother made or used..... so that is my intention. My daugher has her own tarot cards (she is 13) and she will also have mine.

I wish there was some, but my family was strong believers that tarot is the work of the devil :( if they had any in their possession they would've burned it by now.
But one of my friends grandmother I believe gave her a marseilles deck.

You're SO right Kath! I've recently self-inherited :D my father's laptop, he spent so much time studying and working on it, that I feel it is a part of him... it's not the newest or fastes computer but I always get a beautiful feeling everytime I use it, I've come to appreciate it a lot, so I can imagine how nice would be to inherit a deck from someone you love.
My family doesn't believe in the Tarot so I can't imagine who could inherit my decks, but if in near future the family is blessed with children many among one of them my deck mught fing a new home.

Have never inherited anything but fully intend to leave my Tarot decks to both my daughters along with a few other valued and loved possessions; love the idea of creating a legacy for the first time.

I have not inherited any tarot decks, but agree that this would be a wonderful thing. I hope to pass my decks on to someone someday. I chose my design for the 79th card in the Gilded Tarot special edition I bought with that in mind.
I have, however, inherited several playing card decks that were my grandfather's. They are very special to me, partly because he sparked my interest in cards and card games (he taught me everything he knew about cribbage, and that was quite a bit) and that led partially to my interest in tarot cards.

I would have loved to have inherited a battered well loved deck but I didn't. My son is interested in tarot though so I hope to be able to pass some of my decks over to him when he is a little older. :)

The first Tarot deck I ever saw was my Aunt Georgia's Rider Waite. She was very wise, and considered to be a little odd by the rest of my straightlaced, conservative family... Dunno what ever happened to that deck.
My 5 year old daughter has the Hello Kitty tarot - with which she has done a beautiful job of coloring herself:) I thought I'd pass my small collection to her as I feel she'd appreciate them most.
But then I was so suprised when my 14 year old son asked for the Dragon deck for his birthday last month! Keeps them in his top dresser drawer along with his other most precious possessions..
I am pleased that both love the Tarot - so now there are two that I can pass my own treasures down to..
Wishing a beautiful day to all here,
O.

Ophelea, what splendid children you have ! I am going to look up the Hello Kitty Tarot now, as I have a little feeling it will appeal to MY daughter-aged 6-who not only loves cats but is also very into art projects at the moment (I hope she always will be.)
By the way, have your children always been aware of your interest in Tarot ? How old were they when you first let them look at cards, etc ? And how did this square with the more "conventional" members of the family ? I am looking at some of these issues myself, and would be grateful for your thoughts.
Please pm me.
love and blessings,

This may be a stupid question, but are the Hello Kitty cards meant to be colored? Is that why they are black and white? I was looking at that deck for my daughter as well but thought she wouldn't like it because of it's lack of color, but I never thought of just having her color it herself! What a grand idea!
My daughter, aged four, loves to watch me read my cards. I finally gave her the major arcana cards from the radiant RW deck (mostly to distract her from my more treasured decks) and she keeps the cards in her purse. She likes to take them out and then spread them on the table, and then have me go through with her and talk about each card and what it means. It's really cute.
Ophelea- what a shame those cards were lost! Those would have been so neat to have in your collection.
