Still ____after all this time?

Is there a tarot for you that is....

Still ____(Going Strong, Crazy, Joyful....you fill in) after these years?

I've cleaned off my nine-year-old Hallowquest Arthurian Tarot and seven-year-old Secrets Tarot tarot today...my Secrets is taken out every few weeks. My Hallowquest I usually don't work with, but today I was feeling nostalgic...and when I looked up the card for the week according to the Hallowquest
handbook that comes with the deck, it was the Grail (Cup/Chalices Ace)...and the mellow softness of the sun and lapping sound of soft, pouring waters melted again into my mind. Sometimes it works, sometimes not...

My sister had called me earlier about going baby shower shopping with my mother...and my sister-in-law/brother and myself are sending a combined check...my sister just emailed me the picture of the 'loot' for my young cousin's first baby. What I felt...this is the same Ace of Chalices feeling to me.

This year, that side of the family lost our grandmother, but we gained a new baby. Our family cup filled to the brim, sometimes spilling a few drops so softly along the way...

Have a tarot or two that works a kind of "magic" for you? Maybe a tarot memory or two?

Regards,

Cerulean

Last reading I did for myself, I pulled out my 30 year old Swiss 1JJ. I don't use the deck a great deal anymore; they're somewhat beat up. Some of the cards are rather dog eared. Any plastic on them has long since worn off, so they do not slide against each other the way new decks do.

Still, these are the cards I have had the longest; and they are familiar to me in a way other cards are not. For a while I was dissatisfied with the deck. They were not RWS. They were not "true" Marseille designs. Still, they're what I got first and what I learned with. They're the cards I will always see in my mind's eye. Maybe I should get a new one.

I recently went digging through this box I have where I keep duplicates of decks that I never want to be without--OOP, mostly, that I can't replace when the current deck wears out. I dug all the way to the bottom of the box this time, and found an unexpected treasure, a deck I'd forgotton about for 15 or more years.

Daughters of the Moon. very early (first, I think) edition in black and white. I had colored about 1/4 of the cards, and then I bought a new deck because the cards had gotten very worn from use. That was also there, also black and white (they didn't have them colored then).

It took me right back all those years, and I fell right into the pictures, like I used to. I've moved away from strictly intuitive readings in the interviening years, since I've gotten so involved with and learned so much from other decks, readers, systems, and discovered Tarot books. I read very differently now, than I did then.

I'm coloring it again, now, and loving it again, as well. It amazes me, looking at this deck again, to see how its view of many minor cards has stayed with me all these years, decks, and books later.

And it reads like I never went away.

I think its Marseilles decks..

I have many types of decks and I am very attached to everything that I have now, but there is a sense of stability about marseilles decks. I feel like I will always be able to read with them.

My taste in art may change/mature but the Marseilles decks I have weren't bought for the art. I think of them as my grown up deck.

I have a (relatively!) ancient Aquarian Tarot that was my main learning deck (not quite my *very* first, that was a RWS & belonged to my sister - this was *my own* first deck). I have it in a tiny treasure chest on my "treasures" shelf here - it's the top of a very rough bookshelf that is a little like a mantel. It's valued along with some of my art, collectibles, etc. I really am quite sick of the deck - it was *all* I had to read with from college (1984) until I finally managed to get this other deck I had my eye on for quite some time & was then in love with, the Enchanted (around 1998!)... Almost a decade-and-a-half of only one deck is quite enough. But I find myself looking at it occasionally, & wondering if I should get a new copy someday, or at least get the New Palladini... Just some rambling musings on my very 1st deck! :) My "grown-up" decks are the Visconti decks, which after the Glow-in-the-Dark, were the next decks I acquired, within the past couple of years.

My Visconti Gold is 'still a good friend, after all this time'.
After collecting decks into the triple digits, and bouncing around from one deck to another and another, it remains the deck I have never packed away since I opened it that first time.
It's the deck I learned with, started reading with, and the deck I still read with now.
Another one I've grown attached to is the PoMo, a favorite I gave up when I stopped collecting, but recently sought again to actually use for reading this time.
I just got the PoMo again in a trade, and it was a similar feeling as with the VG when I looked through the cards, like I was conversing with a good friend.

The good ol' Universal Waite.

Everytime I look at it, I think about the first time i even held a deck. I was 11 years old, when I had gone to a local book store to pick one up. It was a late summer day, the sun was shining, yet everything seemed serene. That deck means a lot to me because it changed my life for the better.

I still get a warm fuzzy feeling inside. :D

The Tarot of the Witches is the one for me. I'm thirty Seven now but I discovered the Tarot through this deck when I was thirteen. A lot of people dislike this deck but I've always had a passion for it. I still use it for readings, it still works for me and I still love it !

Are you referring to the Cannon Reid version, Chris?

If so, this was my first deck as well. I won't go into the story of how I discovered Tarot but when I went to the local esoteric shop to look at decks they didn't have the RWS so I got this one instead. I later needed to get the RWS but this one has always had a speciall meaning for me.

Some of the images are just beautiful.

It wasn't the Cannon Reid deck - I've since bought that one and although I'm not wiccan I find it very useable and the artwork is among the best I've ever seen for a Tarot Deck. No, my first deck was the Fergus Hall 'Tarot of the Witches', published by US Games. Have a look on the thread that lists sites showing whole decks - you'll find a site listed that displays the whole Major Arcana from this deck. Many people strongly dislike this deck but I have a real passion for it. I still use it regularly.

The "James Bond" Tarot --- yes, I remember that one. You can only read with it if you're a virgin, though.

Back when I was much younger, that was one of the three decks you could count on being able to find at Spencer Gifts. The Swiss 1JJ and (somewhat later) the yellow box RWS were the other two. Back in my black light poster days . . . .

That explains why my reading skills have diminished of late!
