Cosmic Tribe just arrived: First Impressions! (to trim or not???)

Hi,

Just wanted to share with you the experience of the arrival of my Cosmic Tribe Tarot.

I was very excited about getting this, since ordering it on Thursday. Amazon.co.uk got it dispatched the next day, arrived this morning.

The companion book that comes with it is of a very high (phyiscal) qulaity. The paper, printing, etc. Looking forward to reading through it. Any comments on the contents???

To the cards themselves.....
The images are stunning. The colours are very vivid- just like they appear on the web site. There is lots of detail in the images- lots of layers- which isn't evident from the web site images.

Only one slight dissappointment: The card stock. The unevenness of the card sizes and corners is dreadful. It almost appears as if the corners have been snipped individually by hand without a template! But this has NOT detracted in any way from my delight with the deck. I think it is going to be my long term favourite. I am very new to Tarot (3 months in), but with this deck I am now going to stop buying for the forseeable futire- and just enjoy the 6 different decks I have.

One thing I am VERY tempted to do straight away is cut off the borders / text of the Cosmic Tribe. One, because of the unevenness mention above; but more importantly, I feel it will make the images / colours much more powerful- also it will make the deck much more manageable for my small(ish) hands. (the cards are quite large).

Anyone else trimmed their Cosmic Tribe???

Many thanks for reading my post. Any comments you may have will be much appreciated.

Take care,
Regards,
Ian

No, but I can imagine that several of the Cosmic Tribe's cards might be pretty nervous at the thought of somebody wielding a pair of scissors so close to their...au naturel state of being.

;)

My Cosmic Tribe cards aren't uneven as you described either. You might consider contacting the publisher about it. Sometimes they will be quite willing to replace the deck if there's a defect.

Blessings,

I've seen this mentioned elsewhere about the Cosmic Tribe. Interesting that some have come all straight & even & some haven't.

I have one on the way. I wonder if mine will be even or uneven.

I don't have mine anymore but it wasn't wonky - I'd be tempted to contact the publisher and see if you can get a replacement deck - especially since you seem to connect with it so well.

I have trimmed off the borders & key words. I used a guillotine (spelling?), and then fine sandpaper. The cards look MUCH better now and can be handled with ease. The nature of the images seems to be very much suited to being "borderless".

The cards are all very similar in size, but not perfect. This is the only thing I am a dissapointed in, but then that's my problem for cutting them.

Am I right in thinking that this deck ONLY comes in a set? I would at some point in the future consider buying another deck and leaving it standards (for readings)- but dont' want to have to pay for another book.

Take care,
Regards,
Ian

Hi IDN,

You are not the first person to trim a deck before, and I am sure you will not be the last. Many people who have done this have really enjoyed their borderless decks, you are the first I have heard to trim the CT.

I would like to reiterate that you might want to go ahead and contact the publisher to see if they will replace your deck as it did come with the uneven borders. The deck I originally ordered had a marred card (ink spot). After my third attempt at contacting the publisher they sent me a whole new set at no charge to me, so they are responsive even if it takes a couple of tries to get their attention. It would never hurt to try.

The deck is only sold as a deck book set, so you will not be able to get the deck alone, but as I mentioned they sent me a whole new set in perfect condition. The CT is my primary deck and has been for over 2 years (since the day it arrived). I hope you get as much enjoyment out of yours as I have out of mine.

Many thanks Jewel,
I'll give it a try.
