Have you seen the new U.S. games site? I was just amazed to see a new site but what about the decks?
I hope the quality or the art won't be changing too drastically or atleast not for the worse! As far as I saw, U.S. Games seems to have changed the packaging of Hanson-Roberts, Rider-Waite decks, Universal Waite (the standard size)... I dunno what's going on inside the boxes....

And...?
Okay, so it is copyrighted. That didn't still stop U.S. Games in changing the typeface on RWS earlier.

Are they trying to register copyright posthumously? And how? By definition it can't be © Pamela Colman Smith (aside from symbolically) because it was a work for hire... Then again, if Kaplan is just making sure Pixie gets her props then more power to him.
Could you post the link to the copyright notice? Bizarre.

Funny, how do you suppose Pam got in there?
Must have been a typo, or ~ was it pixie magic...

Whenever US Games has a new catalog, it's interesting to see which decks get the axe. This year it's Egipcios Kier (which is on my wishlist). :<

LOL Absolutely! And I was gonna get all riled up on her behalf, too...

The thing that bothered me is in my last deck I got from them, the Goddess Tarot, they had printed "US Games" on the front of the card. I find it seriously distracting, I don't want to see a commercial for their company when I am trying to do something spiritual, reach my unconscious...

I have actually been mad at US Games for many years. About eight years ago I went out and specifically bought the Marsielles deck for my lover because they had it it French and he was a francophile. Imagine my dismay when he opens this long-awaited gift and there is not a single word in French anywhere to be found! I wrote and complained and was told that that 'feature' had been dropped from the current and future production of the deck.
{The undercurrent is that it was one of the last things I ever bought him. He received this deck in March, was stricken in April, and died in June of the same year. I still have the deck.}

Hi, just reading your messages on the US Games..sun and tarotbear I agree with you completely....I only have the Rider Waite deck at the moment but the u.s games 'slogo' is printed on the front...for me it takes away all of the spirituality and things about tarot.....you may as well put this is who made these cards, go buy some more! grrrr lol

I seem to recall Mary K Greer saying something on the subject of acknowledging Palema's involvement and asking Mr Kaplan if he would consider calling it the Waite-Smith rather than the Rider-Waite.
Maybe it has something to do with that?
I could be wrong. It would be in the Tarot-L archives somewhere.

I just trimmed my Goddess deck-- see my thread on it. It's much better without that outer border and logo, I agree.

Yesterday I got the U.S. Games catalog 2004 - 2005 and was amazed at what I found:
* The Pocket Universal Waite has a new back, blue star outlines on a blue background
* The Golden Tarot has a new back as well, they have added two rampant lions (outlines) on the golden background
* UW has a new, blue package
* Hanson-Roberts has the old box, but when you look at the web pages, there's a new one

Maybe I should have come up with a more interesting title... I just want to hear what others think of the new changes.

I saw that "Wizard" card game at a local store - a large store, similar in scope and size to a Wal-Mart or Target. I saw the US Games logo and wondered what it was doing there. I think of them as Tarot and oracle publishers. Have they gone more mainstream? Is this their future direction, and was the "logo-fication" of the decks described above a symptom of this?
Or it could be they just are taking a new marketing direction in addition to their metaphysically-oriented line of decks.
